Not cool
1st off it was misleading about the greens from the app
Only 9 holes open.
They should have told us when we booked that they only had 9 holes open. Other 9 were closed due to putting in new greens. Fairways had been plugged. Poor conditions.
Great place
Every was friendly and helpful. The front 9was closed for green work. This is a challenging course.
Don't know why
Great course with some downhill challenges. Perfect greens. That's why I don't know why they would change them. I heard they are moving the greens in a couple of weeks. Will be placing temporary greens for the moving project. Why?? Just why??
A real test
I played Pilot Knob for the first time ever in February.
If you are looking for a challenge this is a great course. The greens are the quickest I played all year and this was in mid-February. Beyond quick greens they have a lot of slope and challenging breaks. Unfortunately, this led me to turn some 8 foot par putts into 25 foot bogey putts.
The course is very well maintained tee to green.
The staff were extremely helpful and provided us with great instruction before we started. The views of Pilot mountain from most holes are spectacular.
Challenging
The course is very challenging especially with as much wind as we had. I got their an hour before my tee time amd used the range, putting and chipping greens. The putting green is mostly on a slope. Range was great but 7 bucks for a medium bucket to warm up was a tad high. Some greens had false fronts and with the wind it made it much more difficult. Greens wh where great for the time of year. A couple had what seemed to be a different type of grass which was faster than others. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall we enjoyed our day of golf and I'd recommend it as a must play for area courses.
Great layout Fast Greens
Nice track. In great shape and the greens are fast we’ll maintained. The grounds are being attended too meticulously can’t wait to see the results when the weather breaks.
Good course
Course layout was great and conditions were excellent for November 1. Leaves were well controlled. I went off as a single at 8am. Finished in 2:40. There was a 5some two spots behind me who were teeing off 10 as I finished 18. I can see pace of play being an issue out here as other reviewers suggest.
Friendly course with stunning views of Pilot Mountain
Nice course within easy driving distance of Winston Salem and well worth the drive. Friendly starter who spent some time checking if I should start at the front or back 9 (I was a single). He timed it right and I felt like I had the course to myself. Good changes of elevation and the fairways and greens were in very good shape. Food service was adequate and friendly with limited menu. Would easily play again here. Views of Pilot Mountain nicely showcase the beauty of the majestic landscape of this part of the state.
Great course
Played on Labor Day. Course was in great shape. Clubhouse staff was very nice. Ran into 6some at hole #15. Yes a 6some. Waited on every shot. No one in front of them. When we were on 16 we could see that 16, 17, and 18 were open. I don't care about the 6some but it is a problem when you are holding up people behind you. No ranger so they kinda did what they wanted. Too bad. Other than that it is a nice course.
Greens Need Attention
I booked a hot deal with no indication that greens had been aerated. The greens had punch holes were as big as a nickel and surface covered with sand.
The rest of the course was in good condition. I would not recommend booing even a hot deal for a few weeks.
