Marion Lake
This course has a strange layout, so watch the signs to make sure you are going to the correct tee box and green. Other than that not a bad course. The fairways and greens where in excellent condition. Thanks to the great deal on golfnow, it is definitely worth the price.
high-end country course
well kept for local-type course - excellent speed and roll on greens. Tight related to holes next to each other on back nine - potential danger to other golfers.
This course is fun to play with great scenery.
Great course for the price. The front nine has a great layout with fairly good sized greens. The back is a little crammed into a smaller area with much smaller greens. The course is in great shape and very fun to play just have to watch out on the back nine for other players hitting.
Great Value
Beautiful views and fun to play. The back side is pretty short and crowed in, but the views are awesome of Lake James.
Great public course
Great course that I have played for years and is pleasing fir all levels if golfers.
Very Good Value
Price was great, condition of the course was good, pace of play was pretty quick. Fairly scenic. I would play here again!
Playful mountain course with interesting, but complicated, layout.
A very well maintained mountain course, with spectacular views, excellent fairways and fast greens - a couple of which are in process of repair. The layout is somewhat convoluted, with some holes not apparent because of switches across roads and between houses. But overall, the course is fun to play and presents enough challenge for the high-average golfer that it is worthy of several plays.
A good day of golf on a fairly technical course
The greens had been aerated which was know before we played. The back 9 has sloping fairways ...sideways ... making even good drives difficult. My score was affected by the rough greens due to aeration. Will return when greens are back to normal.
Lake Beauty
Drove out past Marion,NC to play along the shores of beautiful Lake James in Nebo. The 18 hole course was originally a Donald Ross 9 hole layout that is now the back nine. The folks in the Pro shop are just as accommodating as they can be. The practice area has a large driving range, putting surface and short practice area. I recommend you spend a little time there to get used to the greens and get ready for some accurate drives. The dogleg right first hole plays downhill from the clubhouse around a stand of tall pines and back up the hill to a good size
green. Number 2 plays straight up a hill to a plateau green which is out of view depending on how far your drive makes it. The bent grass greens are in great shape. After crossing the railroad track, Number 3 has some challenges. The landing area narrows significantly due to another group of trees, then if you found a safe place , you have to clear the creek to reach the green atop another hill. A par 3 finally that is a chance for birdie on #4. I was surprised to see a dozen Canadian Geese in the pond that is right of the fairway on the par 4 #6. Number 7 is all you can take after a good drive across a pond to a smallish green. Back across the track, the par 3 # 8 and all uphill dogleg left par 4 #9 bring you back to the clubhouse. Time for refreshment at Slices Café, I am sure named after me. Across the road begins the back nine with a wide open par 4, a short uphill par 3, then #12 where you need to keep the drive right away from the rolling fairway that gets steeper the closer you get to the hole. Two par fours, the uphill 13 & downhill14 share a fairway with the lake on both sides. The hills were alive with beautiful views of the Lake James with Blue Ridge Mountains backdrop. The closing holes bring you back and complete a lovely and enjoyable round.
Would Recommend!
This course is laid out very nicely. There were a few issues with wet fairways, but there has been alot of rain this year.
great little course
Very friendly staff. course was well maintained. New carts. challenging holes. the view on #17 is one of the best you will ever see, stunning to say the least. nice little pub for beer afterwards. recommended!!!
This course has a variety of shotmaking
The coarse is in excellent condition, greens are rolling smoothly. Couldn't ask for the staff to be more friendly. Played a quick round with my son and had a great time. Wasn't crowded the day we played, finished the round in a little over 3 hours.
Almost too good to be true!!
The description of this course on the internet was very intriguing to me and I looked forward to discovering for my self. I would probably play it every week if it was not so far from our resort home. I left my watch in the golf cart, so I know I will make the long ride at least one more time..and while there, why not play a round? Makes sense to me.
Always well maintained, beautiful mountain and lake views. Offers a variety of challenging holes.
Always enjoy playing this course, challenging shot placement on dog legs and very nice par three holes. Friendly staff in the pro shop and beautiful views, especially on the back nine.
quirky but fun
Very nice staff. Fun quirks on the course. Only lost three golf balls.
Great course for short hitters
This is a fun course. Although the course is realitively short, it offers a challenge in the fact that it has some small greens. Several blind shots, so it helps to have played it before or play with someone that has. Great views of Lake James and Shortoff Mountain. Worth the drive and the money.
Beautiful view. interesting layout.
The greens had been plugged a week or two before we played, still they were in good condition. It's one of my favorite courses.
Course is a good value for money spent and time taken.
I enjoy playing this course, nice variety of holes, many uphill approach shots, greens being Bermuda are challenging especially on finesse putts, ball wants to wabble quite a bit when slowing down. Overall, I will play again, the summer condition is much better than this time of year, the staff, snack bar staff and all other staff are extremely cooperative and friendly. Club house is adequate with all amenities, not a private country club but great for a Public Course..
Front nine is nice, back nine challenging!
Staff at Marion Lake is awesome, friendly and attentive. Greens were great and rolling good. Scenery is great with awesome mountain views on some holes. This is a great course, I would highly recommend you play this one!
