Great course
Course was in great shape considering the recent dry spell. There have been a lot of recent improvements all around the course and I look forward for more to come. Truly a treat to play.
Decent Conditions Except Tee Boxes
Pace of play was slow. For some reason, there were groups of 5 players on the course. Only saw a ranger once, and he was picking balls out of a water hazard. The greens were good but the tee boxes were a mess! It was impossible to find a flat, grassy area to teeup your ball, because they were so chewed up.
Pace of play miserable
Third year playing Mountain Glen, last two as members
Pace of play became tedious starting last year. This year it is miserable. Only way to keep moving is to skip ahead of the road block
No rangers on site and many older players take a quarter of an our to complete a whole. With older membership, pro should allow more time between rounds. Typical round we skip three holes to finish under four hours.
Staff is friendly and course is great otherwise and kitchen is outstanding. Hope they get the pace pace under control
Fun layout, but not dramatic
Overall, it was a nice course. Conditions were very good, greens were in good condition and fair, course was wet but played well.
The layout was a fun layout, if it was on flat land. I was disappointed that a course in the mountains failed to take advantage of the mountains. There were only minor elevation changes. The routing was well designed forcing the golfer to shape the ball off the tee both left and right.
a pleasant experience
Mountain Glen is a good, public, mountain golf course. The bent grass greens were well maintained and rolled true. As is the case in all too many of this type course the clientele is unwilling to bend over and fix their pitch marks- not the management's fault. The lay-out is attractive, and a meandering stream provides a hazard on a number of holes. There is only moderate elevation change, especially for a mountain course.
Best bang for the buck
Great little course always in great shape look forward to playing it every year
Clubhouse Staff really rude to all players, but nice course!
I love this course but the man that checks you in and you make payment is probably one of the rudest people I have ever met. He acts so annoyed when anyone has the audacity to actually play the course. He is that way to every single person that comes in, I had to wait for about 30 minutes to tee off so I got to observe the interaction in the clubhouse. Not one customer was spared a rude comment when paying but then as they walked off he mumbled some trite remark about them under his breath! At one point, I was like "Am I on camera or something? This can't be for real?" What's crazy is I can understand him having one bad day, but I have played the course three times and he is the same way every time!
Anyway, other than the obvious need for a new clubhouse cashier the course is actually great! Challenging, but approachable and always a blast! I live in Johnson City and Mountain Glen is worth the drive!
fun course to play
Greens were perfect. Actually all course conditions were perfect.
Best Course and Value around!
This is by far my favorite course around the Asheville area! Always in great condition! Staff is always great! Pace of play is usually very quick! Highly recommend this course to anyone!
This is a great mountain course!
Tremendous amount of rain this summer in the mountains! The course was soaked, so no roll, but we had a great time! Great mountain views, and elevation changes. I will definitely play this course again!
Fun in the mountains.
Fun course to play in the high country. Always in great shape. Lots of short birdie holes with a few tight challenging holes. Nice greens. One of my favorites for many years. I've played this course on vacation for the last dozen years
