Good Course..Good price...Good location and very accessible..Thank you for a good afternoon!! I recommend this 18 hole golf course..
Good for the Money
Course is really close together with the holes. You cant really hit a bad shot, however, it will be in another fairway. Our cart got hit twice. Not complaining, just saying look out. Greens are slower than expected but lines are straight.
Good round of golf
The course is as good as it has ever been. My hat off to all involved in the care of the grounds. Just a good round of play.
The course has good grass and few surprises
I enjoyed the golf very much and found the condition of the course, cart paths, pace of play, to be very favorable to the pleasant experience we had.
Great day
Lots of fun. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
Good course for the money
Good course for the money. Have played it about 5 times in the past three weeks and would reccomend it to anyone I know. Good job staff.
I challenge you to find a better bargain
Walked 18. As a senior, paid $11. But, considering it was a 96 mile round trip from Charlotte, I doubt I'll be going back any time soon. Conditions were okay. This is no cow pasture. Been a lot of rain lately. So, there was plenty of grass in the fairways. That's saying something. Because, judging from the creaky clubhouse, McCanless is a very old course.
A lot of the reviews complain of small greens. If you want to see small greens, play Sunset Hills in Charlotte. Some of those are small enough to fit in the back of your pickup.
The McCanless greens were very fast and fairly true. Many are turtleshellish. It was at least 90 by noon and so they were getting crispy. By the time we got to the back they had been wetted, and I managed to even make a couple of divots.
This course is wide open and if you’re not greedy you’ll be fine. If I had a complaint it would be about the collar/fringe area. Terrible. Chewed up. Cut way tight. I hate having to putt six feet off the green.
Whatever. Had fun. Blasted through the front in about 1 ¼ hours before slamming into the crowds on the back. Paired up with Red and Ted. Good guys who brook no fools.
Great place
Was very pleased with my golf round staff are friendly and very accommodating. Thx
Good for the money
The course was in good shape. Can't complain at all for the price. I'd play it again.
Good Course for Short Hitters
Mcanless is a short course without much trouble. The greens are very small and firm so approach shots are best played short letting the ball roll on. For the price, it's a good course to work out kinks in your shots.
Average Course
Good value for the money to really go out and work on your game. Won't challenge you with distance but will test your accuracy with small greens.
Great Little Course For The Money
I've played McCanless probably between 40-50 times. The greens fees are going to be in the $20 range (I've played for as little as $13). For that amount of money, the course is great. It isn't overly long, but there are several challenging holes. 6, 9, 11, 12, and 13 immediately come to mind. The greens on this course are tiny, averaging about 1500 sq. ft. You will miss a lot of greens, so you're short game will get a workout. Scott, the head pro/GM and his staff treats me like a member, and slower groups almost always let me play through. The course doesn't have any bunkers, but there are challenging areas around the greens. Most of the greens are pitched from back to front, so staying underneath the hole is key. Don't worry about what the course doesn't have and enjoy the challenge that it does present, and you'll have a great time.
This course need a major overhaul.
The course was in very poor condition. The fairways were undefined, there were weeds growing on the greens, and the tee boxes had no grass on them. This could be a nice course with ALOT of TLC. I wont be going back. I paid $20. for my round and I wouldn't go back if it were free. Greens were impossible to put on. Looked like someone used a bobcat to make them.
Good course for beginners/seniors
Jury is out on the condition of the course due to the time of year. The greens were in above average shape and fairly fast. The course is short with few hazards and small greens. Some tee boxes were non-existent. The staff was great. For a quick inexpensive round this fit the bill.
Fun little course
Had to wait a few minutes to tee off because of frost on the greens but other than that it was an excellent round. Pretty short course, but the greens were either small or had some wicked slopes. Overall, very nice for the money!
Nice little course
I enjoyed playing this course, and the layout was very nice, too. I finished play in only 3 1/2 hours, and will play there again.
Nice place for a relaxing round of golf
This course is relatively short and fairly easy. It is very well maintained and the staff was great. It is a deal for the money and a perfect course for beginners and seniors. I look forward to playing here again.
Played on a Sunday, great course, great pace
New to golf. Really like this course. Smaller course, nice. Layout. Staff very friendly and helpful. Fairways and greens in great shape. Does have practice area, but no driving range. Will definitely be back...
