Olde Fort Golf Course

About
Olde Fort Golf Course in Winnabow is a nine-hole course tucked away in the rolling hills of western North Carolina. Opened in 1962, it was one of the area's first nine-hole courses. It is an ideal course for beginners, offering a layout that is gentle but has a few subtle challenges. For more advanced players, the golf course is great for squeezing in a quick round or for getting in some short game practice. It can be played as a relatively quick 18-hole round too. In addition to the course, Olde Fort has a driving range as well as chipping and putting greens for golfers to use. The course may not have the most challenging design or extensive amenities, but it is popular nonetheless since it is one of the best values in the area.

Little Gem
Best course in the area for the money. Some of the best greens played on. Ball set up well in the fairways. I definitely plan to play here again.
Great greens!
The fairways are rough. And narrow. The greens are well maintained. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely play there again!
Good Course for Beginners / Practice
This isn't a Grand Strand course, but for the price ($27 includes the cart) you can't beat it if you're learning the game, looking for a practice round to work out kinks, or a course to work in some new clubs. Greens are in great shape. Fairways are green. Front nine is fairly easy with the back nine slightly more challenging. A couple of holes are tough, but the other 16 will not cause any anxiety. Tee boxes need some work as do some areas of the cart paths (which are sand), but if you're a very high handicapper (+20), then this course provides the room and forgiveness you need to work on your game.
Pleasantly Surprised
Okay, this isn't Augusta National. However, course was in pretty decent shape. I'd put in between Masonboro Country Club and Echo Farms in Wilmington as far as fairway and green shape. Course is not crowded, layout is fair, greens fair, fairways in fairly good shape (no sand or bare spots, mix of grass and weeds but it's green and they keep it cut).
Avoid
I really didn't know golf courses could get this bad. The cart path is dirt, eroded in many places by heavy rains. In some places the cart path totally disappeared. Weeds and dandelions on the tee boxes, absolutely no grass in the fairways, and the only thing green on the greens were weeds, No bathrooms, ball washers or water on the course. I see no reason to ever go back.
Great course for casual play!
There are not many courses in the area that provide an inexpensive, casual day of fun golf. They a very friendly and accommodating. I brought my 2 kids (10 and 13). The course was open and user-friendly. There is no better place to break in some new golfers or knock the rust off your clubs. We will definitely be playing there regularly. Thanks for being there Old Fort!
Perfect for Juniors!
We had an absolute blast here today. It was me, my dad, and my two daughters (6 and 9). This place is inexpensive and wide open.....perfect for taking the Juniors out without bothering anyone. Check it out!
Please compare course to price
I am the manager of this course. After reading the last review I would like to clarify that we are a $25 (peak rate!) cart included golf course. If you compare our course to another course that charges double the price (or more!), I am certain we will not meet your expectations. If you are looking for a nice round of golf on really good greens, for the lowest price in this area, this is your course! If you want manicured fairways, cart paths and "hot" beverage cart personnel, you probably want to try one of the other courses.
Please remember, writing bad reviews about golf courses does not help the course get better. It only hurts the revenue that would otherwise be put back into the course.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
This course is a confidence builder.
I always play this course at least once a month. It is scenic, pleasurable and the greens are receptive. You will pay 2-3 times as much on other courses in NC. Old Fort is an enjoyable course with smooth cart paths. My wife and I always enjoy playing it, especially when we see our scores at the end of 18 holes. Enjoy!
I love old fort .
Good value. Great place to sharpen your game .
