Cooks Creek Golf Club
About
Cooks Creek Golf Club (previously known as Raintree South Golf Club) is bordered by Little Walnut Creek on one side and the Scioto River on the other, providing a scenic setting that is ideal for a round of golf. The course is a certified Audubon Sanctuary and there is also a Blue Herron rookery on site. Opened in 1993, the golf course is relatively young but it has already established a reputation for being one of central Ohio's best public courses. Local architects Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry designed the course with the assistance of John Cook. Cooks Creek has two completely unique nines that offer two different sets of challenges. The diverse layout requires careful strategy and it will also test your shot-making abilities. With two bodies of water serving as neighbors, water definitely plays a role on the golf course.

This was a fairway, patches of dirt like this were extremely common throughout. Photo submitted by ScEGDxKM8Z1A9tQ5q63k on 10/13/2019

Great course that needs a little attention
Played Cooks Creek for the first time the other day. Overall it has a great layout that present numerous challenges throughout the round. Course would be 5 stars if the bunkers were in better shape. Almost every bunker was washed out. Was also disappointed by the number of cut range balls in my bucket before the round. With a little TLC, it would make a run for best public course near Columbus
Cook's Creek
Fairways and greens were in great condition. Bunkers are in need of attention. Overall excellent value
Best value around!
This course is one of my favorites. Great layout. Wish the greens were a little faster but still the best value on golf now. Thanks to the Cooks
A Hidden Gem
I was looking for a course to play while in Columbus, Ohio and found Cooks Creek, a delightful treat. The layout was surprisingly challenging, yet fair. Even with wide fairways you still had to think your way around for positioning approach shots into the greens. I thoroughly enjoyed playing every hole.
Amazing Course
I never write reviews, but felt compelled to for this course. Certainly one of the finest public courses I’ve played in Central Ohio. Course was in amazing shape and was a lot of fun to play! I’ll Def be back
Outstanding course with friendly accommodating staff
My wife and I wanted to find a place to play while staying in the Grove City area. I searched the courses in the area and read the reviews. Cooks Creek had the 2nd highest overall rating and a very reasonable hot deal price. What a find! It's too bad they got an inch of rain the night before. The course was still very playable, but a little soft in some spots. I thought the fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Excellent variety of holes with well placed hazards. You can lose a lot of balls if you start spraying them. Everyone we met was warm, friendly, and helpful. We even met several members of the Cook family; which was a real treat for us. My understanding from reading previous reviews is that the course is in a continuous state of improvement. If that's the case, that's wonderful....but don't wait to go check it out. We will definitely be back!
except for that twosome ahead of us...
Got an excellent deal for the foursome from the course ($25). Busy day, had to wait a little to tee off. the ranger told the twosome behind us to join up with the twosome ahead. The first twosome refused and sped off. the second twosome was told to return to their spot in line behind our foursome (our teetime was earlier) but he pitched a fit and ranted about wanting his money back, etc, didn't want to wait, moan groan whine. I was glad no children were nearby. we told him to go ahead and tee off, that every one would finish eventually. (we ended up waiting for them on every hole, but saturdays are busy...) the course itself is very nice, rebuilding a bit, and may benefit from some signage for directions. Interesting variety of holes. The owner (father of John Cook and Kathy Cook, professionals) chatted with us in clubhouse after the round. His family runs the course; very pleasant. Plenty of water present on the course, but really only for wayward shots, except when obvious from the tee or GPS device.
Delightful. Ssssh. Don't tell anybody
Wonderful afternoon
Only observation ---- the pacing at some time was pretty squeezed. That's the only challenge
Lovely. Please don't come. Hahahaha
Intresting layout
Cook’s Creek is the best layout in Ohio. The course forces you to think ; driver off tee, or hybrid ? Go for sucker pin, or the center of the green ? Conditions have improved from last year, and although a few bunkers still need attention, it does not take away from the excellent experience.
Mr. Jim Cook was there to greet, and he was a joy to speak with.
Great course
Ever since this course returned to Cook's Creek, it has returned to the excellent course it once was. The course was well groomed and the pace of play was good.
Vastly Improved
I left a review here that was positive a few years ago, right after the ownership change and thought it was time for an update since I play there multiple times per year. This spring is the best I have seen this course since the Cook family reacquired it. It is really returning slowly but surely to its former status and I think with time it will earn back all of its national ratings and accolades and customers. As far as the course right now goes the rough is filling in nicely and looks GREAT! Don't miss the fairway or it has become very penal, exactly what you want from a high end golf course. Keep up the improvements and serious golfers will continue to place this course of the very top of their list!
Great Course, but some short-comings
I really enjoy playing this course. Seems to always be in good shape. I do have one aggervation, the last 3 times I have played here, I always get to the course early to warm up and hit the range. The range fee isn't terrible but i pay and there are never balls on the range. I wait and wait then call the clubhouse and 20 min later someone comes down to rake the balls.... by this time I have wasted an hour and have to get to the tee box. This is a five star course that falls way short on something simple
Slow play
We traveled 2 hours to play this course and enjoyed our experience except for the fact there was a 5-some in front of us. We mentioned it to the staff at the turn but nothing was done not sure he really cared, doubt we will come back.
Cooks creek
Great layout a real bargain will be in great shape by middle of May
Great course for an early round
The course was in great condition for April, greens were slow. Pace of play was slow, I'm assuming it was most people's first round of the year. I suspect the course to get better as the year goes on.
nice course
Great course for a great price. played it early in what is a bad weather spring. Would like to see it in mid season form.
Winter@cookscreek
We had a day in the forties with sunshine in December and had to hit the Links. The favorable hot deal from golfnow made it an easy decision. Some of the tea markers were not out. This was not a problem. Some of the traps were alright, but it is December in Ohio. We had a two some and only went through one group and played at a great pace. This is one of my favorite courses in central Ohio...
