Cooks Creek Golf Club
About
Cooks Creek Golf Club (previously known as Raintree South Golf Club) is bordered by Little Walnut Creek on one side and the Scioto River on the other, providing a scenic setting that is ideal for a round of golf. The course is a certified Audubon Sanctuary and there is also a Blue Herron rookery on site. Opened in 1993, the golf course is relatively young but it has already established a reputation for being one of central Ohio's best public courses. Local architects Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry designed the course with the assistance of John Cook. Cooks Creek has two completely unique nines that offer two different sets of challenges. The diverse layout requires careful strategy and it will also test your shot-making abilities. With two bodies of water serving as neighbors, water definitely plays a role on the golf course.

Tee Boxes (This is one of the tee boxes with actual green on it, rather than just pure dirt) Photo submitted by ScEGDxKM8Z1A9tQ5q63k on 10/13/2019

This was a fairway, patches of dirt like this were extremely common throughout. Photo submitted by ScEGDxKM8Z1A9tQ5q63k on 10/13/2019

Loved it
Course was in fantastic shape! Absolutely gorgeous piece of land that only looked better with the trees changing colors. Highly challenging and undulating layout that places premiums on the second shot. Most holes have relatively wide fairways that favor long hitters, but well-placed hazards often create tough decisions on the tee. Six different tee boxes are a major plus. My only complaint is that the practice facilities could use some updating. The best part of a round played here earlier this year was the owner pulling up to our group in a cart, thanking us for coming out, and telling us about the family's history with the course that bear's their name and the pride they take in owning it again. It was really cool to see them personally cultivate their customer base again and laying out plans to restore the course to it's former glory. I'll definitely be back with friends, but will continue to selfishly hope the course remains a hidden gem for a while longer.
Lots of work going on.
Course is still a bit rough after years of neglect. Jim cook and his team own it again and are working hard for next year.
Fairways have just been aerated and there are plugs everywhere. Greens were aerated a couple weeks ago and are still bumpy. Crabgrass has been sprayed and is dead all over the course. However....these aren't really complaints. I'm happy to tolerate crummy conditions now for the long term good of the course.
Do not expect good conditions at the moment. It is fall and It is still quite playable, but they are using this time to do a lot of work. Still a wonderful layout. One of the best around. I'm looking forward to next year now that some money and care are going into the course.
Oh yeah. Quite a few brand new electric golf carts is a big plus. I don't know if they did the whole fleet or not, but the 10 or so in front of the clubhouse when I was there were brand new. They even have that "new cart smell".
Keep it up guys!
Making Cook's Creek Great Again
This is truly a great track. In recent years it has gone downhill quite a bit under the Raintree South ownership, but the good news is the Cook family has bought it back, changed the name back to Cook's Creek and appears to putting in the necessary work, investment, and TLC to restore it to it's glory days of a decade ago. As we approached the Par 3 15th, we saw Jim Cook (we didn't know him until then) out there analyzing and doing some work around what will become the new tee box location. He's a very nice gentleman and even bounced his ideas for that location off of us. He genuinely thanked us for coming down from Columbus to play Cook's. The fairways needed some work and they've recently aerated them. It was a tough hot summer for all golf courses in Ohio but the greens there were mostly is good shape and the ball rolled very well and we had no issues with them although they were probably a little slower than they used to be. I think their speed will be back next season, and the fairways and tee boxes will improve with time.
One of my favorites!
This is a course my group always works in to our rotation. This truly is like country club golf on a beer budget. We drive up from Cincinnati annually for this gem, and for $25 it was a no brainer,
The course was in great condition, except for the bunkers, but it had rained the night before so no big deal.
Nice layout needs work
I played this course years ago when owned by John Cook. Had not played for a few years. John Cook sold course and now has bought it back. He needs to put some money in the fairways and greens. The greens were in decent shape. They rolled nicely. Only a few worn spots on a few greens. The fairways are in need of some work. I love the layout. Fair and challenging. As the conditions improve this will once again be a great course and worth the 20 minute drive from Columbus.
Really coming back into shape.
Much improved now that the Cook family has bought it back. The fairways and greens are almost perfect. The course will be there in the spring !!!
Interesting course
Have not played the course for a few years. Found the course to have a great layout, with each hole having personality. The greens, and tee boxes were in good condition. The fairways and rough left a little to e desired. Overall I enjoyed the course, and a foursome let us get in front of them on the first tee, Sotheby's play was quick.
Great course
Greens were in good shape for a public course.
Cooks was gorgeous
The value here with golf now was wonderful. Course layout very appreciated. Challenging layout. Course was in great shape with the exception of a few greens having burnt out areas, but not a hendrance to the enjoyment of the round. Played as a twosome. The player I was matched up with played at a similar pace and was equally ability-wise. Truly an enjoyable experience and looking forward to coming back!!!!
Dan6813388 - We are very grateful for the 5 star rating! We are thrilled to hear that you had an enjoyable experience. We are looking forward to seeing you again as well!
Wonderful course
Love this course, can't stand the lazy golfers not repairing ball marks on greens!! Because of that, greens are wearing down and becoming rough. Not like that at other courses... Other than that, great, tough layout, lush fairways!
u985575511 - Thank you very much for the 4 star rating! We hope we will see you again soon!

Cooks Creek
Very nice layout, lots of water. Lots of challenges, variety of fairways from straight and flat to rolling and curvy. Pace of play was slow because of one group and not fixing any divots. But I enjoyed the golf experience
Thank you for your review! We are glad you enjoyed your round with us. We apologize for the slow pace of play. We hope to see you at Cooks Creek again soon!
Excellent layout, slope & true greens w/ speed.
I've always enjoyed this gem, and am glad that it is back into the Cook's family hands.
This is one of the few courses where I even consider playing 36 holes.
It's always worth the drive!
Thank you so much for your review! We are excited to be back and look forward to having you back soon. Thanks again!
Great Course- needs love
I've always enjoyed this track. It's a great gem for the city and even better so now that it's back in the Cook's hands. However they have a long way to go on restoring it. The wooden stairs leading to tee boxes are well, no better way to say it, dangerous. They also have some work to do in getting rid of whatever blight has started on the greens. Lastly, if your cart person selling beverages on the course does not show for the day then you need to send somebody else out, period. It was 90 degrees out and had I known that you weren't even going to put water out on the course for people to drink, let alone not be sending somebody out with cold beer, water, etc. I would have brought my own. You guys missed out on a bunch of money when the large group we were in played Sunday 7/31/16 Could have made a killing on beer. I realize that your trying to resurrect "The Creek" and it was awesome meeting Cook Sr. and his concern for getting us all out on the course, but come on guys how hard is it to get a kid out there in a cart selling bevy's? Looking forward to you ironing out your kinks.
Thank you for your review. We apologize that your experience was not up to your expectation. We will be working very hard to rectify these issues. We appreciate your patience with us as we get Cooks Creek up to par. Thank you!
Coming back to its old glory
The cook family has bought the course back. They are trying to repair everything the Raintree company ruined. Will take time but its getting better.
Thank you for your review! We appreciate your patience as we work to smooth out remaining kinks with Cooks Creek. Thanks again!
PERFECT!!
First I came into the courses clubhouse to pay and get drinks... the most uncluttered well organized clubhouse I've been in.. plenty of room and the friendliest staff I've talked to.. course is in great shape and it's perfect for a rookie or a more experienced players.. I'd recommend to anyone and everyone!
Thank you for your review! We're glad you enjoyed our course and staff! We hope to see you back soon for your next round! Thanks again!
Good Round- Minor issue tee times
We had a 7:48 tee time pulled up to the tee box at exactly 7:48 and two groups were waiting on the tee box. They started sending all groups in the morning off of #10 but the afternoon tee times started going off of #1. We we made the turn there was another 3 groups waiting to tee off, the back 9 took nearly 3 hours to play but the cart girl was driving around often.
Thank you for your review. We apologize for the delay in your round. We hope to see you soon for your next round!
Fun course
First time there, good time! Fun layout and challenging from the tips. Did hear a random gun shot on the front nine that seemed odd, probably some illegal hunting. But other than that I loved this round!
Thank you for your review! We are glad your first round with us was enjoyable! We can't wait for you to visit us again for your next round. Thanks again!
the course is in good shape
the course was good shape, but some of the bunkers were not kept very well.
