About
Cooks Creek Golf Club (previously known as Raintree South Golf Club) is bordered by Little Walnut Creek on one side and the Scioto River on the other, providing a scenic setting that is ideal for a round of golf. The course is a certified Audubon Sanctuary and there is also a Blue Herron rookery on site. Opened in 1993, the golf course is relatively young but it has already established a reputation for being one of central Ohio's best public courses. Local architects Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry designed the course with the assistance of John Cook. Cooks Creek has two completely unique nines that offer two different sets of challenges. The diverse layout requires careful strategy and it will also test your shot-making abilities. With two bodies of water serving as neighbors, water definitely plays a role on the golf course.

Should be an option to rate this less than 1 star
Not sure what happened to this place.... worst course I’ve played all summer... dried up / cracked greens, dead fairways, limited grass on tees... I’ll go find a driving range before driving down there again.
Conditions are bad
fairways, greens and bunkers are all in rough shape. It is super sad because I've seen this course in good condition and it is an elite course. But in the condition it is in most courses are a better option.

I remember this course being in really good shape, after playing on Saturday I was truly disappointed. The tee boxes were a complete mess and the fairways barley had any grass. The greens were in ok shape and the back nine fairways were in better shape then the front nine. I like the challenging part to the course but with the current conditions I will not play their again.

Worth the price
I love the course layout. The course condition is fair. Don't expect perfect fairways or greens.
If they improved the condition to be Average/Good, I would play this course 5-6 times per year.

Best layout in columbus
This is my one of favorite course in columbus oh. But I hope they’ll make a good condition the fair ground all the time.

Great Layout
I understand the weather has taken its toll on the course, but there is such a disparity between holes not that far from each other. A couple holes were very wet while others were very dry and there were bare or dead grass quite often in the fairway. Then most of the greens had holes in them or completely no grass or sand on the green. There were just a handful of tee markers on the course, so we had to guess which were the right teeing grounds. It's a great layout and the people working there couldn't be nicer. But it could be so much better, and little things mean a lot, signage that is more permanent than laminated signs. Driving range could have yardage markers at least to warm up to instead of an empty field. Overall, probably a 3/5. Expectations were probably too high for a top 20 Ohio public course

Disappointed
Having played CC in ten years
Was looking forward to the old layout that I remembered where you had to use long irons off the tee for a couple of par 4 holes
Several greens where in horrible shape
A few fairways had hardly any grass in the fairway or around the greens
0 sand in any bunker and had to play unplayable areas on a few holes

Long Course, So-So Condition
Cooks Creek was a fun but long course. It was the hottest day of the year so far, so it was very dry. Some burnt spots. Greens were very firm, yet didn’t roll great. Would not recommend walking this course. Extremely hilly and plays just over 7,000 yards from the tips. Would play again for similar price (~$20 for 18 + cart).

Great Layout/Great Value
I love playing here, and have played a few times this year already. I live in Athens and my home course the OU golf course is closed due to Covid-19. It takes me over an hour to get here (or any other worthy golf course) and it's well worth it.
There are a few condition issues that seem to be improving as the grass is growing very well. Mostly this is not in areas that affect play. The bunkers have been unkempt so our group decided to play the bunkers as an option, play it in the bunker or drop behind it. We also had 2 times where someone was on a patch of dirt in the collar and it was going to affect the shot, so we just let them move an inch right or left.
Those condition issues do not come close to tarnishing one of the nicest public course layouts around. There are no weak holes here and they all play differently.
We also enjoyed continuous Blue Heron fly bys all day.
I will definitely be back.

Potential to be something!
Cooks Creek has the layout and potential to be a great place to play. Unfortunately it would require all new bunkers, better landscaping crew and lots of money to turn this course around.
