Regulation Eighteen at Shawnee Hills Golf Course
About
Shawnee Hills is home to two different golf courses, an 18-hole regulation course and a nine-hole, par-3 layout. The 18-hole course has a front nine that plays across gently rolling hills accented with water hazards while the back nine presents a different set of challenges with more dramatic hills covered with forests of mature pines, maples, and oaks. The scenic Deer Lick Creek also runs alongside the back holes. The second half of the golf course definitely has more of a Carolina-feel to it while the front nine is more like a Florida course. The back is a bit tougher than the first half of the course, but wide fairways throughout make it a fairly forgiving layout overall, though the golf course boasts what may be the toughest hole in the Cleveland Metroparks, the par-4 fourth. This dogleg left hole plays uphill and demands accuracy with a line of trees on either side.

Airiated and not told
The course was in a horrible condition. Fairways full of fresh airriated cores and the the greens sanded some as much as beaches. On top of that they had sprinklers going on 4, 5 and 7 so hard to play around it. Shoes has .5 " of clay/soil under them.
The cart guy complaining it takes him 25 minutes to clean a cart. Normally we like this course but for the next week to 10 days, stay away
Average Course, Below Average Staff
Played this course with a group of 12 guys on a Saturday, first and foremost the staff was about as rude as rude can be. We showed up and asked which carts we could put our bags on and we were told “your carts aren’t ready yet, you’ll have to wait, and you can’t take the carts to the range so just wait”. So we had 12 guys, and 12 golf bags, and food, and beer, just chilling under a tree by the cart stand. One old guy on a power trip told 4 of us we could load up in a couple carts, old man on a power trip #2 then yelled at our guys and told them they couldn’t do that. We’re now 15 minutes from our first tee time. Finally, old man on a power trip #1 finally told us we could load up carts. So we all pull to the first tee and make fun of each other as the groups tee off, and old man on a power trip #2 yelled at us for being too loud and there were too many people on the tee. So there was that, off we go, course is pretty flat and boring on the front, has more character on the back, we finish up in a monsoon and pulled the carts up under cover. Young man on a power trip #1 proceeds to yell at our group to get the carts off the concrete. As we attempt to stay dry and get our bags off the carts under cover, he continues to berate us, and nearly becomes physical to get us to move the carts. So we move them, and get soaked, as he continues to berate other guests who had done the same thing as us. Overall an average course, wouldn’t visit again simply because of the rude staff.
Greens need TLC
Have played this course a few times every year and this is the worst I’ve ever seen the greens. Hopefully this is a passing condition but these greens are below the normal metro park quality. The course was fine other than that
Well maintained course
Greens and fairways are in great shape! Layout of the Back 9 is nice!
Fix the 17th Tee already!!!
Have to start by saying I always enjoy playing Shawnee Hills, but what's with the 17th Tee (Senior/Women) must have a 15-20 degree tilt! This is not a temporary tee, this has been this way for years. As a handicapped golfer this tee always poses a challenge for me to keep my balance. Have to question the logic of the head groundskeeper of this course, this does not seem to be a major project. Please, Please, Please level this tee already.
Good Course
Shawnee is a nice course in the Cleveland Metroparks. It has a driving range, putting green, pro shop, dining facility and cart that sells drinks. Overall, I felt the course was pretty well maintained and cut. I had no issues with the staff friendliness and felt they were all nice. The 11th and 12th holes are really beautiful holes in my opinion. The only issue I had was the pace of play. Ahead of us was a 4-some that the staff allowed one of them to walk while the others rode. I generally have no issues with walkers but on a weekend or holiday, this should be limited to non-peak hours (after 2pm). This slowed everyone down and made our round go over 5 hours on a pretty easy course that should have taken 4 at most. I would play here again though,
Nice course, unfriendly staff
The course was in good shape for late October after a lot of rain. The greens were very bumpy and could use a smoothing out, however I would imagine in the summer at peak season the greens are more smooth. My biggest issue was with the staff, when I went to check-in and pay, the very disinterested man in the pro-shop more or less asked me “what do you want” which was a bit awkward considering I was there to give him my money, you’d think he’d be a little happier. Then I went out to the starter who was the most disgruntled gold employee I’ve ever met. He was disorganized, disrespectful, and down right degrading. I was very unhappy with the way he treated me from the start. When I returned my cart at the end of the day we tried to make a light hearted joke about the round as we finished just before dark, he could not have been any more rude. We did nothing to offend him, he was just an unnecessary angry Ol’ boy. It’s a shame because we did like the layout and the fairways were in good shape, but the staff was just atrocious. Good luck to all who have to deal with that regularly!
Good for beginners!
Great course, very friendly staff. The bathroom on hole 7 (I believe) needs to be fixed and cleaned up, but that’s my only complaint.
Great course for beginners
I’m not very good, but this course is very well kept and still provides some challenges. The bathroom by hole 7 needs attention, but that’s my only complaint. I’ll happily be back.
Rainy days
Rain last night messed up today. Cart path only gets old after a while. Course was bottled up bad. Every one is sniffing each others butts on every hole.
Staff inside the clubhouse were nice. Starter was cool.
Front 9 is fairly easy
Back 9 is more of a challenge
Still using carts from the 90’s
If you need some where to golf on short notice, this is a good place to go. I wouldn’t be planning a boys weekend to golf here though. This is probably one of the bottom tier Metropark golf courses.
