Back to Yesteryear
I hadn't played here for 30 years and took my big-hitting son to Seneca B on a Sunday afternoon. The course wasn't crowded and we made our way around rapidly. The course is not long by modern standards (except for a few par fours on the back nine). The premium is hitting the fairways and the smallish greens. Stay out of the wispy grass or you'll give up a lot of strokes. Obviously some folks gave up balls, too, since we found almost two dozen. A nice course that requires accuracy and precise club selection. Worth a try.
Greens in good condition just very slow
The course was in decent condition, greens are really slow, not much break and not very consistent. The worse thing about the course is the high grass that surrounds all the fairways so if you hit a bad shot it is nearly impossible to find it, also the course is poorly marked for yardage. Besides that its not too bad of a course and I would golf there again
Enjoyed links style
Nice public course. First time there and would enjoy playing the A course also.
Work in progress
The greens are really starting to become consistant which is good to see. The biggest problem is the ridiculous heavy growth that frames almost every hole just yards from the fairways. This results in a dramatic pace of play concern while players look for balls that after hitting fairways, travel a short distance and then become lost in knee high grass. I hope the Metroparks continues to whip this traditional track into shape.
work in progress
This course has improved immensely since I played it 3 years ago, but that is simply the difference in the Metroparks running it instead of the City of Cleveland. This course is a good layout, and is in the process of recovery from years of negligence. Now it is being watered regularly and the grass being cut often. The greens hold, the fairways are wide and the length is good, nothing too short and some monster par 5's. I would play it again for the deal, but I often think the Metroparks overcharge for their courses.
A "work-in-progress" with good potential
I never bother playing Seneca since Sleepy Hollow is just around the corner, however with great deals on GolfNow it was worth a "shot." Though not as challenging or nice as Sleepy Hollow, Seneca is surprisingly a solid municipal-style course. The course is relatively flat (good for walkers) comprised mostly of tree-lined holes with fairly open fairways. Since being acquired, signs of the Cleveland Metroparks efforts are really beginning to show especially regarding the course condition. The course remains a work-in-progress reflective of ongoing dirt-leveling littered around the course. With continuing efforts and resources, the course has the potential of being a top-played Metorpark course. Note: One annoying thing is the unnoticeable natural speed bumps litter all over the course, which can make riding very unpleasant.
Dump
If your ball isn't in the fairway, good luck finding it. This course needs serious attention. Hopefully the metroparks will invest some money in it in the future; however, as is, I would not play it ever again.
Better Maintenance
I haven't played this course in a long time, way before it was taken over by the metro parks system. The course seemed to maintained much better than it was in the past. I seem to remember teeing off dirt patches in the past, but not any more.
Must be out of gas
Only the volunteer staff knew how to properly address patrons or at least smile. Seems like a petty glum, low energy group.
The fairways were at best a 2nd cut. When you miss the fairway, good luck finding your ball. Between the 6"-8" rough and trim trash everywhere, some with 2' of growth around it, we were wondering if gas prices have reduced them to cutting once per month.
Last, do NOT plan to work on you putting here. Shag carpet covered with sand. Sleepy Hollow is 2 miles away, same price, and much, much more fun.
Much better since the metroparks took over from the city of cleveland.
The pace of play was excellent until the final 3 holes when we ended up behind a party of 5. The course conditions are far superior to the conditions 3 or 4 years ago when it was a cow pasture. The range is $3 for 23 balls that you can fetch yourself and stay all day. The price is a bit steep for a county owned course, particularly not their prized gem. There are 36 holes, with the A course being a bit more open than the cramped B. At the golf now price of (after taxes and fees) $18 each to ride 18, you cannot pass it up!
Does need some work.
Greens were fantastic, but the fairways need some work. Needs some cleanup, lost a few balls in the leftover leaves. I'll go back after the spring to see if it's any better.
Not worth it !!!
I worked at this course in the late 70's when the city of Cleveland ran it, at least the city knew what they had, which is a public course maintained not for wanna be pros but for the average duffer who still likes to play golf and not feel intimidated. The metroparks have some very nice courses that are well designed and maintained, this is not one of them. Turning a nice parkland style course into a tightly cut course with waist high grass ten yards off of the fairway is a travesty. The metroparks would be better off letting this course grow into parkland, and reopening Acacia CC a Donald Ross course that they just acquired, instead of turning that into parkland and destroying a great classic layout as they plan to do.
This course needs talc
Course is getting better but still needs a lot of tlc. Fairways need to be leveled. Too many mogos
