Disappointing
The course was in terrible shape. The tee boxes were uneven and more dirt than grass. The bunkers were so bad that I just took my ball out as opposed to ruining my club by swinging in rocks.
The "marshalls" were also unfriendly. First, the starter tried to tell me I could only play 9 holes (even though the golfnow booking was for 18) because there was some league play about to start. Eventually they agreed to actually let me play the deal I booked! Next, when I caught up to the group in front of me, the marshall came over and seemed upset at me that I would have the nerve to want to play through!
The only reason this gets a two start instead of a one star is because I had a hot deal for $10. Playing any golf for $10 is ok, but any more is way too much for this course.
To wet to tell
Seems like a nice course for the money but it was very wet and pretty much all of the fairways were wet. I would like to try course again when it drys up.
Fun, challenging course
Great track with some very interesting holes that require a lot of thought. Lots of elevation changes that caused me problems. Course was in great shape for this time of year. By stroke of luck, I got paired up with one of the pro shop employees "Chad", who was top notch. A great guy, had lots of helpful advice, and fun to play a round with. Greens were in very good shape, as were the fairways. Tee boxes could use some attention, and they are in the process of sprucing things up for the season, including the bunkers.. All in all it was a great day of golf. I will be back soon!
Course needs work - early in season
Course needs a lot of work. Very thin and hard fairways, tee boxes are a mess, no sand in bunkers all dirt and rocks. I will stay away for 4 weeks and hopefully the grass will grow and they will fix items noted. I really like to play Minebrook and the price is right but since they do get a lot of play and should be making money it's time to fix up the place.
Minebrook
If you hit straight drives not a very hard course but if wild this course and trees will challenge you! Been playing here for 30 years.
Great round
Great course for a quick afternoon round. Early season so course wasn't in great shape. Looking forward to playing there again in the summer
Stopped working on this course
Minebrook is a decent course, it seems they have cut back on maintenance because of the time of year, so finding balls in all the leaves is somewhat of a nightmare on certain holes. Tee boxes were mostly dirt. Greens were in good shape, sand traps were often mostly dirt or filled with leaves. I guess they just figure the season is almost over and they aren't going to clean it all up. If you can get a good price to play, it's a decent course- if not, stay away.
Different layout, shorter but tough
Despite November date, greens in great condition, Rest of course was in okay shape, but thats expected at this time. Tee boxes need work, but they were midst renovating 2 or 3 of them. Only issues were finding the ball amongst all of the leaves but that has nothing to do with the course, just the season. Course is shorter on the scorecard, but plays longer because the doglegs are 90 degree turns which makes the holes more challenging and out of the ordinary. Great views, great variety of holes.
Disappointment for the money
The course was not properly managed with a lot of bare spots in the middle of the fairways. A lot of large holes next to cart path that needs to be repaired. Saw this was advertised as one of NJ's oldest golf courses and in great condition. Disappointed. Awkward layouts and course was more expensive than Crystal Spring resort!
OK value for the time of year.
The course was in good condition, the greens were very nice. Leaves at this time of year were an issue, even if you were in a good spot. They did have a staff member on the #1 fairway to spot your ball which was nice. There were no rangers and even though there were hardly any players on the course, we were going very slowly due to the slow threesome in front of us. I would go back, it was a nice course for the money.
Short course
Tee boxes were horrible. Very little leaf maintenance, difficult to find ball on edge of fairways. Fairways were poor condition as well. Too many better courses to play in the area, that provide greater challenge and a lot more bang for your buck. $20 with cart for 18 would be fair.
Like playing on the moon with leaves.
Before booking this with golf now I called the course and was told that the conditions were good. Really? Half the tee boxes looked like mine fields, hence the name of the course and the rest were temps, including the 2 - 60 sq yd par 3's that used to be 180 and 190 yards. Slow and bumpy greens are puttable, but these were fast and bumpy. A 2 foot put was an adventure. I always loved this course and the good news is that they are doing extensive work on it to get it ready for next year. Great lay out and I will come back next year.
Great friendliness to player.
The course is well maintained. The greens are in great condition along with the fairways and the staff is very friendly and accommodating.
c'mon man use some grass seed!!
Pros: Staff is friendly. Food is good when available (stops end of Sept.) Greens were in great shape, however very slow.
Cons: Tee boxes have no grass. Any grass on the tee box is cut the same as the rough. Cart paths are pitiful. They should give you a kidney belt. No leaf management, unless you call mowing the leaves something.
If your paying the green fees for 3 like I was, the courses shortcomings were overshadowed by its value. Great people and good food too.
After playing and paying $85+ per head this summer for my two sons and I , I was attracted to the cost of Minebrook. At first, I was disappointed with the condition of the fairways and the bunkers but adjusted quickly remembering we were paying $30 less per head. Clean and place solved the fairway issue. Its a nice track with some challenging holes (green tees) with a nice bar to grab something to eat after your round. The staff was very friendly. My sons and I agreed that we would definitely go back, as long as I'm paying. LOL
Slow pace of play and too many leaves on the course
I've played here before and while the course has a less than stellar layout, it's still enjoyable. Last time out a group of three in front of us made it very slow. Two holes were open in front of them, we were right behind and two groups were behind us. On the par 4 ninth, they were on the green, we were in the fairway waiting a wedge in and the group behind was on the tee box. No rangers were on the course to push them either. Also, in the autumn in NJ you have to do a better job of keeping leaves off the fairway. It irks me to no end when I hit a long drive in the middle of the fairway only to be unable to find the ball. I'll be back here, but not until spring.
Good course for iron work
Tee boxes were horrible. However, new tee boxes weren't open yet so good news for future play. Greens were in good shape. Good course to work on moving the ball with alot of doglegs. Long round as to be expected at 11:00 on a Saturday. Overall a positive experience.
Always slow pace
Some tee boxes are under repair which is fine. But many other tee boxes also need repair. I hardly found grass in tee boxes. Worse condition is playing pace. It usually takes more than 5 hours for a round. No staff takes care about it.
Almost there
Course is being worked on so you have a few tee boxes being repaired. Some of the fairways are a little beat up but the greens are pretty nice and so are some of the fairways. When everything is finished I think this course will look fantastic
One Bad Apple
don't spoil the whole bunch.
The guys at this course are all usually super friendly.
This time, we were approached on the 14th hole and told we had to leave, that we only paid for 9 and they had a league coming soon. In fact, we paid for 18 and a call to the Mgr straightened that out. We were teeing off on 18 when the league came.
The guy who tried to evict us was VERY rude and unprofessional.
My tee time that I purchased from GolfNow did not indicate any number of holes, just that it was for Minebrook, that it showed as 18. The person with us was a walkon that paid for 18 - I knew him and heard him request his round at the Pro Shop. C'mon guys...
