Course has potential
Course is in rough shape (the rough needs cut, greens and fairways were very dry, some holes under construction, etc.). Also, the course layout was a bit non-traditional. Had a good time nonetheless, because it wasn't crowded and we weren't being pushed or had to wait. With the GolfNow discount, it only cost about $30 per person for greens fees and cart, so all in all, the value was good, despite the condition of the course.
Minebrook gc
Fun course that they are improving by adding new sod to tee boxes and parts of the fairways. Course holds water making some spots on course very wet or muddy.
Played Many Times Before
I've played here many times before living only 10 min away. Always found it to be a decent golf course for the price. The last time I played was not a good experience lost maybe 4 or 5 balls rolling off the fairway maybe 2 feet into the rough, I don't think they cut the rough at all. They had us cart path only on a par 5, the drainage was bad and it didn't rain in 3 days. There was ALOT of mud and tire tracks all over the fairways. I have played this course many times and have seen it in much better condition. I do not think that it is worth anywhere near the $55 I spent in this condition in the end of May early June.
tee boxes
the fairways except 15 and 16 were excellent and so were the greens ,however the tee boxes were a shambles very disappointing,it could be a great course but because of the tee boxes it isn't
Average
Typical public course. The course is below average.
Making substancial improvements
Overall much better then in the past. I see a lot of upgrades to the course, rebuilt tee boxes in the works, sand in the traps, tree clearing. By summer it will play very well.
Great Course for the cost.
I usually play in Sussex county, but every now and then find a great Golfnow deal. Minebrook was one of them and you could not beat the price. Even for regular cost the course is fun to play. It is a shorter course so play from the tips.
course needs some TLC
crowded for a Monday and tee time was a little late. course was quite wet even without rain for 3 days. numerous bunkers were nothing more than dirt and stones as sand replacement not completed. rough was set up for a US open (do they even mow it?). Other than the low cost of playing, would not go back here.
Poor Man's Flanders
The course plays much like the Morris County favorite except tighter and with smaller greens. A few doglegs make for interesting shot selections. However, the course was very wet with very thick rough and semi-long fairways which made approach shots more difficult then they needed to be on a course with a slope of 131 from the tips.
Disappointing
The course was in terrible shape. The tee boxes were uneven and more dirt than grass. The bunkers were so bad that I just took my ball out as opposed to ruining my club by swinging in rocks.
The "marshalls" were also unfriendly. First, the starter tried to tell me I could only play 9 holes (even though the golfnow booking was for 18) because there was some league play about to start. Eventually they agreed to actually let me play the deal I booked! Next, when I caught up to the group in front of me, the marshall came over and seemed upset at me that I would have the nerve to want to play through!
The only reason this gets a two start instead of a one star is because I had a hot deal for $10. Playing any golf for $10 is ok, but any more is way too much for this course.
To wet to tell
Seems like a nice course for the money but it was very wet and pretty much all of the fairways were wet. I would like to try course again when it drys up.
Fun, challenging course
Great track with some very interesting holes that require a lot of thought. Lots of elevation changes that caused me problems. Course was in great shape for this time of year. By stroke of luck, I got paired up with one of the pro shop employees "Chad", who was top notch. A great guy, had lots of helpful advice, and fun to play a round with. Greens were in very good shape, as were the fairways. Tee boxes could use some attention, and they are in the process of sprucing things up for the season, including the bunkers.. All in all it was a great day of golf. I will be back soon!
Course needs work - early in season
Course needs a lot of work. Very thin and hard fairways, tee boxes are a mess, no sand in bunkers all dirt and rocks. I will stay away for 4 weeks and hopefully the grass will grow and they will fix items noted. I really like to play Minebrook and the price is right but since they do get a lot of play and should be making money it's time to fix up the place.
Minebrook
If you hit straight drives not a very hard course but if wild this course and trees will challenge you! Been playing here for 30 years.
Great round
Great course for a quick afternoon round. Early season so course wasn't in great shape. Looking forward to playing there again in the summer
Stopped working on this course
Minebrook is a decent course, it seems they have cut back on maintenance because of the time of year, so finding balls in all the leaves is somewhat of a nightmare on certain holes. Tee boxes were mostly dirt. Greens were in good shape, sand traps were often mostly dirt or filled with leaves. I guess they just figure the season is almost over and they aren't going to clean it all up. If you can get a good price to play, it's a decent course- if not, stay away.
Different layout, shorter but tough
Despite November date, greens in great condition, Rest of course was in okay shape, but thats expected at this time. Tee boxes need work, but they were midst renovating 2 or 3 of them. Only issues were finding the ball amongst all of the leaves but that has nothing to do with the course, just the season. Course is shorter on the scorecard, but plays longer because the doglegs are 90 degree turns which makes the holes more challenging and out of the ordinary. Great views, great variety of holes.
Disappointment for the money
The course was not properly managed with a lot of bare spots in the middle of the fairways. A lot of large holes next to cart path that needs to be repaired. Saw this was advertised as one of NJ's oldest golf courses and in great condition. Disappointed. Awkward layouts and course was more expensive than Crystal Spring resort!
OK value for the time of year.
The course was in good condition, the greens were very nice. Leaves at this time of year were an issue, even if you were in a good spot. They did have a staff member on the #1 fairway to spot your ball which was nice. There were no rangers and even though there were hardly any players on the course, we were going very slowly due to the slow threesome in front of us. I would go back, it was a nice course for the money.
Short course
Tee boxes were horrible. Very little leaf maintenance, difficult to find ball on edge of fairways. Fairways were poor condition as well. Too many better courses to play in the area, that provide greater challenge and a lot more bang for your buck. $20 with cart for 18 would be fair.
