Like playing on the moon with leaves.
Before booking this with golf now I called the course and was told that the conditions were good. Really? Half the tee boxes looked like mine fields, hence the name of the course and the rest were temps, including the 2 - 60 sq yd par 3's that used to be 180 and 190 yards. Slow and bumpy greens are puttable, but these were fast and bumpy. A 2 foot put was an adventure. I always loved this course and the good news is that they are doing extensive work on it to get it ready for next year. Great lay out and I will come back next year.
Great friendliness to player.
The course is well maintained. The greens are in great condition along with the fairways and the staff is very friendly and accommodating.
c'mon man use some grass seed!!
Pros: Staff is friendly. Food is good when available (stops end of Sept.) Greens were in great shape, however very slow.
Cons: Tee boxes have no grass. Any grass on the tee box is cut the same as the rough. Cart paths are pitiful. They should give you a kidney belt. No leaf management, unless you call mowing the leaves something.
If your paying the green fees for 3 like I was, the courses shortcomings were overshadowed by its value. Great people and good food too.
After playing and paying $85+ per head this summer for my two sons and I , I was attracted to the cost of Minebrook. At first, I was disappointed with the condition of the fairways and the bunkers but adjusted quickly remembering we were paying $30 less per head. Clean and place solved the fairway issue. Its a nice track with some challenging holes (green tees) with a nice bar to grab something to eat after your round. The staff was very friendly. My sons and I agreed that we would definitely go back, as long as I'm paying. LOL
Slow pace of play and too many leaves on the course
I've played here before and while the course has a less than stellar layout, it's still enjoyable. Last time out a group of three in front of us made it very slow. Two holes were open in front of them, we were right behind and two groups were behind us. On the par 4 ninth, they were on the green, we were in the fairway waiting a wedge in and the group behind was on the tee box. No rangers were on the course to push them either. Also, in the autumn in NJ you have to do a better job of keeping leaves off the fairway. It irks me to no end when I hit a long drive in the middle of the fairway only to be unable to find the ball. I'll be back here, but not until spring.
Good course for iron work
Tee boxes were horrible. However, new tee boxes weren't open yet so good news for future play. Greens were in good shape. Good course to work on moving the ball with alot of doglegs. Long round as to be expected at 11:00 on a Saturday. Overall a positive experience.
Always slow pace
Some tee boxes are under repair which is fine. But many other tee boxes also need repair. I hardly found grass in tee boxes. Worse condition is playing pace. It usually takes more than 5 hours for a round. No staff takes care about it.
Almost there
Course is being worked on so you have a few tee boxes being repaired. Some of the fairways are a little beat up but the greens are pretty nice and so are some of the fairways. When everything is finished I think this course will look fantastic
One Bad Apple
don't spoil the whole bunch.
The guys at this course are all usually super friendly.
This time, we were approached on the 14th hole and told we had to leave, that we only paid for 9 and they had a league coming soon. In fact, we paid for 18 and a call to the Mgr straightened that out. We were teeing off on 18 when the league came.
The guy who tried to evict us was VERY rude and unprofessional.
My tee time that I purchased from GolfNow did not indicate any number of holes, just that it was for Minebrook, that it showed as 18. The person with us was a walkon that paid for 18 - I knew him and heard him request his round at the Pro Shop. C'mon guys...
Fast pace and great value for the money.
For $25.95 and a 3 1/2 hour round, it's hard to beat. Course is fairly flat and easy, but it was kept pretty well and the pace of play was great. Greens were slow, but it was a 6:30am tee time. I would do it again for this price.
great value
The course is great in terms of value and length. The pace of play should have been enforced due to the amount of people on the course. They are in the middle of fixing tee boxes and fairways right now so it should be a good experience when all is taken care of.
Tee Boxes are in horrible shape
I played in light rain condition but there is no excuses to be hitting out of a muddy tee box. The course is a home course of golf group that I belong to. This round I played with a buddy. But, there were already grumbling within the group about the condition of this course. My group will golf at this course next week. I foresee the discontent for this course is going to get worse.
Most good, some VERY bad spots
Played for $10. Overall the course was in maintained condition, but they were working on numerous tee boxes when i was there. One par three was reduced to, literally, a 40 yard hole. The spots that needed work, were horrendous (mud, tire tracks, etc) but that was only 10% of those course and none of the greens. i would play it again without worry.
Fairways need more attention
Conditions were somewhat poorer than what is normal for this course
Par 3 Tee Boxes Under Repair
What they don't tell you upon booking is that the vast majority of this short course's Par 3 tee boxes are completely under repair... This means that all tee boxes play as the ladies tees...... the always short 6th played as 79 yards (with the pin in the back!!!!!!). I was so furious about the tee boxes I couldn't even begin to be angry about the weeds in the greens. Not even worth the GolfNow discounted rate during the week, let alone the weekend rate. Splurge for Bowling Green or any of the Crystal Springs courses.. or if you are golfing on a budget, Farmstead offers a MUCH better course for the $$$. I will not be golfing here anymore after this, and this is the course I played religiously 3 years ago when I first started.
Good course, but expensive
Good course, but value is not good, too expensive compared to other local courses.
Not a bad play
Minebrook is a decent course to play. I don't think it's special by any means, but it's kept in good enough shape that you can enjoy a round of golf here without paying too much money.
Course needs a good bit of maintenance
The course itself was in pretty bad shape, no sand in the traps and lots of chopped up fairways
Very good. Front 9 wide open, back 9 more challenging, with tighter fairways and much morre hilly.
This is a nice course. I'm about a 24 handicapper, and found the course to be fair and fun. The front 9 was very wide open and easier. The back 9 was more challenging. Over all the course was good, well maintained, and staff was good-rangers were ever present and kept golfers moving along. The course has a tendency to hold water. Even though it hasn't rained much in several days, one or two fairways were muddy, and greens were very slow.
Course was a very good value for the money. They included breakfast and lunch with the green fees.
Greens, fairways and traps were well maintained. However, the tee boxes needed some work as they were barren and uneven in some places. The layout of the course is interesting with valley and mountain holes on the 18 holes.
