High Point Golf Club
About
High Point Golf Club is a public course in Montague that has been around since 1966. The course has since undergone major renovations but it still retains the original character of the design. The layout is routed between two massive, sparkling lakes. You won't find any parallel holes on this golf course, it provides plenty of space so you don't have to worry about errant drives. High Point is seemingly mild, but don't be fooled by the traditional 6,783-yard layout. There is a surprising amount of bite to this golf course. Each hole presents a unique challenge but what they have in common are the rolling fairways that are subtly contoured. They leave for some difficult and creative approaches. In addition to the golf course, High Point also has a driving range available as well as putting and chipping greens.

Nice course, Staff needs a manners lesson
We like the course, we had played it before. We arrived early because of holiday, didnt want to be late due to traffic. The first hole was open for 20 minutes but we were told due to the fact that we booked on "golfnow" we couldn't start before our assigned time. So we waited and watched the first fairway for 15 minutes until a father and 2 teenagers who never played before walked up and teed off. The staff then said we could follow them. We followed them for the full 5.5 hour round.
Had a Great Time EXCEPT ...
The course was in EXCELLENT condition due to all the rain we've had ! LUSH fairways and greens [ ESPECIALLY the greens ] on every hole - it was in the BEST shape I've ever seen it and I've played here a number of times in the past. There WERE a few things I wasn't CRAZY ABOUT though ! #1 , there was only ONE WATER BUCKET ON THE ENTIRE COURSE THAT ACTUALLY HAD WATER IN IT !! The KICKER to that was there were NO CUPS believe it or not !! My brother and I just picked it up and drank STRAIGHT FROM THE SPOUT since it was on the 17th hole and WE WERE PARCHED BY THEN !! The place seems like it's being run BY A FEW TEENAGERS ONLY so it really DIDN'T surprise me - only TICKED ME OFF !! We still had a great time IN SPITE of that though just because the course itself was in such GREAT shape !
Interesting course
High Point is an interesting course, situated in the middle of several housing developments, with many lakes throughout. The only real issue I had with the course was that the rough was quite deep and many balls were lost, which annoyed us. But the fairways were mostly well kept and the greens were great. A most unique golfing experience and I will play there again.
High Point Heaven
I personally love this golf course. I only get to play here 1 to 2 times a year because it's an hour and a half away from me. It's hard to get people who want to drive that far to play golf. I would do it more often but I don't want to play as a single. This is a very visual course with water coming into play quite often. It is a course that offers everything you want in a golf course, challenge, narrow and wide fairways, some longer par 4's, and some difficult undulating greens. One thing I will warn you depending on your skill level BRING LOTS OF BALLS.. When I play here I have so much fun that after awhile I don't even bother with writing down a score just enjoy playing the holes. This course is by far my favorite course in NJ. The travel is the only part I don't care for. Beware of the 1st hole, if you don't play it correctly and don't carry the water to the green your day can easily start out with a 10.
great course
really super golf course ,kinda tough the first time playing it ,1st hole is not easy when you don't know it ,anyway the greens were super fast and in fine condition and for a good golfer it is so good ,i loved it but if you've just started playing bring plenty of balls
Great course for low handicappers
But I am 65 years old and a 24 hcp, and I hated the course set up.
Average courses are about 6,00 - 6,100 yards from the mens' tees. This one is over 6,300 yards with a rating of 71.4 and a slope of 133 so it's long and hard. By the end I was feeling really beat up. They have senior tees, but they back all the way down to 5,255 yards with a course rating of 66.5,. so there is no happy medium.
You get what you pay for
Played saturday afternoon at 2pm on 6.13. The pace of play was terrible 5hr+ round. Litterally 5+ minute wait for ever shot. There is a ranger on the course but she did not appear to ever try to make the group ahead of us pick up the pace. The tee boxxes have little to no grass. As for the fairways, they are half way descent. The best part of this course are the greens. Greens are in great shape and roll true. Finally hole 16 is a joke it is a 300 yard par 4 with lakes on the left and right. The fairway for this is maybe 20 yards wide and probally 50 yards long. So you either have to go for the green in one or hit a well place iron or hybrid.
I most likely will not return to this course.
This course has great views
beautiful place to play very friendly people great food and they even have a cart that comes around with cold beverages on the weekend.
Scenic holes
Greens were good shape but fairways and tee boxes needed work.
Good if you are still learning and it's one of the first rounds ever.
Tee boxes were a mess, fairways and greens were arid, had the course basically to our selves it was my girlfriends first full round. Facility is dated. I will never play there again if I can help it.

We thought we were putting at Augusta National. If you like water holes & fast greens this course is for you.
High Point Golf Club
This is a moderately challenging course in north Jersey that's worth playing one or two times. The only thing I didn't like about this course was that I felt like I was golfing in someone's backyard for most of the game. Other than that, it was a nice course. The greens like to run, so prepare to take a little bit of power off of your putts. Watch out for water and bunkers; they're literally everywhere being that you're golfing around a lake. I was able to birdie 18 (par 3) by shooting toward the left side of the green and having the ball run downward.
Wow!
The shape of course was a great but the condition of fairway was so horrible. I don't want to play this golf course in the future anymore. I almost was driving a car whittin two hours from Queens, NY. Just playing golf but not much interesting.
If booking an early tee time call ahead
Booked a tee time the night before for a 7:00 tee time, Arrived at the course to see that they were closed. I know this time of year can be tricky, and I didn't give it any thought that they may have later hours even on the warmer days. I would suggest golfnow or the course remove those times so this doesn't happen to anyone else. No where on the course website were the hours listed, nor at the course so I don't know what time they actually open.
Normally a nice course to play so I was disappointed.
High Point Golf
The staff on this Saturday met me in the parking lot and dropped off the cart as a courtesy. The course was in very good shape and most of the leaves have fallen off the trees so there isn't much of an issue here any more. The greens are fast and putting can be difficult if you are not use to these type of greens. Several dogleg fairways require accurate placement for a chance of par. Also the water canisters are empty so remember to bring something to drink.
Great course
Course in very good condition. The owners have spent a lot of quality time fixing it up. The greens are in excellent condition, rolled tight but not too fast. I'd estimate about a 10. Very true. The fairways need a little work but for the most part, you can take a divot without worrying about hurting your wrist. Every hole has its own personality and challenges. Definitely need course knowledge. The only problem hole is no. 12. They should put a net up off the right side of the tee box. There's always a fair number of children playing there and it's unsettling to hit your drive. I'd recommend this course to anyone. Very enjoyable.
Best Value in Golf
Very nice golf course at the top of NJ. Challenging holes, some tough par 4s. #17 is very tough to reach in two. Hole #1 is among the best risk/reward holes that there are. Double water carry on #10 makes it a true three shot hole. Great staff, great place to play. The greens fee of $47 on weekends is the best value around.
Very challenging
Course was in good condition greens very fast , Please put some sand in the sand traps, Excellent value

@Lanny I'm 57, drive it about 220, I'm bad with my fairway woods, and hit a 4-iron about 170. SO, a 400-yard par-4 is very tough for me to reach. Here's what you can try:
Play the whites on the 500-yard first hole. When I was younger, I could hit it 260-270, and hit an iron onto the green if I was fare enough left. Now, it's driver, wedge to the bridge. So even if you are 20 yards shorter, hit an 8 to the bridge, and a 5-iron will get you on.
312?-yd. hole # 2. The first shot nly needs to go 180, you can play the whites there.
394-yd.- hole # 3. You can play the "gold" tees there, which turns it into a 367-yarder. IT'll still be a tough hole, but two good shots will get you to the table.
513-yd - hole # 4. You can make this an easy 408-yarder from the gold tees. IT's driver, 6-iron, wedge for me, so I'm sure that you could play it from the whites, but if need be, shorten it.
197-yd - hole # 5. I need ALL of a 4-iron to get there (it's downhill over a swamp), but a great option would be to go over to the other side, and play the gold tees at 158 yards.
416-yd (IT HAS TO BE LONGER) - hole # 6. I use the same driver, 6-iron, wedge on this as I do on hole # 4. The gold tees give you 46 yards, so try those.
196-yd hole # 7 - Plays shorter, but with the swamp so close to the green (on the right), maybe the 155-yd. gold tees are better.
420-yd hole # 8 - Haven't reached this one in TWO in 5 years. I HAVE chipped in for birdie, though. Still, too long - jump on the 327-yard gold tees.
394-yd. hole # 9 - Can still reach this one with driver, 6-iron. But this is my outer limit. Go gold at 315.
SO the Front nine is White (481), White (312), Gold (367), Gold (408), Gold (158), Gold (370 - more like 450), Gold (155), Gold (327), Gold (315) for a total of 2,893 yards.
BACK NINE: 518-yd. hole # 10 - Take the 175-yd. shot over water out of the mix, go gold at 429. Set the 2nd shot at 100, and have at it.
377-yd. hole # 11 - TOUGH ONE. Ball has to be just to the left of the right-side bunker. I can barely reach there. Go gold at 349, it'll still be reasonably tough.
362-yd. hole # 12 - Go WHITE. A drive of 180 -210 put you in position to hit the green with an iron. stay just right of the bunker on the drive.
305-yd. hole # 13 - A 5-iron to the middle, maybe a "trouble" wood for you. No need to go anything but WHITE on this hole.
140-yd. hole # 14. - I can hit a 7-iron about 140. STILL, about 1/3 of my shots somehow find this water. This hole is not tough, I just make it that way. Go WHITE.
506-yd. hole # 15 - Go GOLD - It's uphill for the second shot, and I need driver, 6-iron to get to the landing area, AND you must be to the right. Use the GOLD tees for a 425-yd. hole.
278-yd. hole # 16 - Ten years ago I could carry both lakes on my way to the green (and sometimes get it there). Smart play now is either a 5-iron, or a wood straight at the bunker. You'll get it over, but will likely not reach the bunker. A good wedge gives you a shot at birdie. Play it WHITE.
404-yd. hole # 17 - Plays like 450. I've BOMBED drives, and still had trouble reaching. Now, the only way that I can reach is a shot to the right, and a punch through the trees. Best play is left, go GOLD at 300, hit it between the 150 & 100 on the left, and go for your par.
115-yd. hole # 18. Same hole, no matter which tees you use. For me, 9-iron on the bottom pin; 8-iron on the top. Gold & Red is actually LONGER than the WHITES here.
BACK NINE - Gold (429), Gold (349), White (362), White (305), White (140), Gold (425), White (278), Gold (300), Any tee (117).
Back Nine Yardage - 2,705 - Total of 11 golds, and seven whites - total yardage of 5,600 (5,598). Good compromise.
