High Point Golf Club
About
High Point Golf Club is a public course in Montague that has been around since 1966. The course has since undergone major renovations but it still retains the original character of the design. The layout is routed between two massive, sparkling lakes. You won't find any parallel holes on this golf course, it provides plenty of space so you don't have to worry about errant drives. High Point is seemingly mild, but don't be fooled by the traditional 6,783-yard layout. There is a surprising amount of bite to this golf course. Each hole presents a unique challenge but what they have in common are the rolling fairways that are subtly contoured. They leave for some difficult and creative approaches. In addition to the golf course, High Point also has a driving range available as well as putting and chipping greens.

Scenery abounds.
The course is beautiful and well kept. Greens are smooth and quick. The fairways were very green and lush. The course has numerous holes with water on them. This course was closed for a few years and the ownership and staff should be highly commended for their dedication and hard work in establishing this course as a must play.
Beautiful, well maintained, cheap
This is a beautiful course that plays around and sometimes over a lake in the far Northwest corner of New Jersey. The greens are some of the best I've putted on and for the most part the fairways and tee boxes were in good shape. The course layout is very interesting, with a good mix of long, and short holes, dog legs and a few blind shots. The first hole is a shortish par 5, that requires a perfect drive to go for the green in two. This shot is not for the weak, because it will require about a 190 yard shot over the lake. The 16th hole is a great risk-reward at 280 yards, with the first 200 over the lake as well. My only complaint is that it is a 2 hour drive for me, and the final hole is a par 3. (Just a personal thing with me).
The best part is 30 dollars for 18 holes with a cart weekdays, and when I played, I joined another single on the 3rd hole, and we played without seeing another person for the rest of the round!!!
Also the foliage was beginning to turn and the scenery was spectacular, however the leaves were also starting to fall and sometimes made locating the ball difficult to impossible.
Fun course to play.
This course was interesting to play. Many of the holes were quite open, yet some were somewhat difficult. I found it a lot of fun to play. It somewhat needed attention, but was generally in pretty good shape. That water was not a major factor except for three holes where it was a factor. I would definitely play this course again.
Great for the price
I paid $24 per person to play this course at 1:40 in the afternoon and for the money it was a great deal. A friendly staff member drove carts out to the parking lot for my group so we could load our bags.
This course forces you to play smart golf because it has a lot of 90 degree dog leg holes and A LOT of water. Found myself playing a lot of irons from the tee box instead of driver. Fairways and greens were in good condition. I will definitely play this course again if I can find a similar deal.
Poor until you hit the green
Would not play this course again. The layout is different, it being a mountain course automatically ensures you have some weird holes. But that is ok and expected.
The tee boxes were in horrible shape, the fairways almost as long as the rough and there was not a lot of grass to play from.
It didn't not help that it was so foggy you could not see more then 100 yards. The starter still send us out but if you don't see were you are going it is even less fun.
The positive part of the course are the greens, although they put very slow they are in good shape.
Course in good shape
The course was in good shape. Each hole had challenges. Greens excellent. Badly in need of a marshall. Pace of ply was vey slow.
country golf, beautiful scenery
A lovely place but a little hard to get to. Wide fairways, very forgiving, fast greens in great shape.
A great find in North Jersey and I mean North
This course is being wellcared for by pros. Everything is in good shape...the greens are exceptional. Staff at Pro shop to 19th hole great also.
excellent coarse
this place if a hidden jem very challenging nice water holes long par 3's greens are very nice great views staff was super friendly andf the price to play $45 was great highly recommend playing this place def going back
Great Greens
First round at this course was a good one. Generally wide open with a few exceptions, water in play on most holes. Enjoyed the layout. Loved the greens. Not in the best shape I've ever seen, but rolled fast and true. Definitely will be back another day.
Decent. Potential.
Took a trip to the border from NY. Thought it was an interesting layout and it was super cheap so i thought why not.
This course has an interesting setting. Felt like I was playing in people's back yards. Lost a lot of balls unfortunately.
Its not a particularly difficult course. Not too many shots where the water poses a big threat, but when it does-- man are those some difficult shots.
Greens were fine, fairways and rough OK. Lots of construction being done on the course and in the neighborhood so that was a little distracting.
I won't give the course an unfair rating just because I had a bad round, but I do think it needs some work. However, if I lived closer I'm sure I would be playing there all the time. It's just so cheap and relatively empty. Cant beat that.
I recommend studying up on this course beforehand if it's your first time out, or else you'll end up having a frustrating day like mine
inaccurate yardages from tees; lots of distractions around the 1st and 10th holes
Very challenging for the skilled golfer, too challenging for the average golfer. This is the cause of extremely slow play . This is a very demanding coarse for accuracy off the tee in which most of the coarse is set up with heavily tree lined and narrow fairways.Could have still enjoyed it if the group behind us didn't hit into our group and the scuffle that ensued on the 16th over a
minor incident and almost ended up in a physical encounter with a hot headed drill instructor with no knowledge or etiquette
of the game. It was truely an undesireable experience that will ensure that I will not be going back there ever again!
Making a Come Back
20 years ago when I played this course last, the place was a mess. Took a chance with a good deal from Golf Now. Under new management the course has made good strides. The first few holes are still a bit odd in that they are along a local road but once you get past them it becomes a very good interesting course. Greens are on the quick side. You will have to disregard some of the poor housing on some of the holes but overall worth the ride up to High Point.
fun
course reopened 2012 they have done a great job getting it back in playing condition. Greens are perfect fairways well cut Tee boxes could use some TLC. Course is fun with some interesting layouts . Fantastic bar very friendly staff. Reasonable green fees. Thank you High Point had wonderful day ill spread the word.
This course has great potential.
This course has water hazards on most holes The problem is that I would describe the water as "marshes" rather than lakes, ponds or streams. However it appeared that there was some type of water cleaning project being attempted.
The tee boxes could be better maintained, such as having ball washers with towels
Fairways, greens, sand traps all well maintained. Fast play and great value.
Not worth the drive
No starter the day I played so it was like a free for all on the 1st tee. Greens were filled with divots which only means that the people playing could care less about taking care of the course. Decent layout but a crazy first hole to start your round. No interest in playing it again.
User freindly fun course
This is a nice little course hidden in the northwest corner of NJ. Fun and fair with various types of challenges along the way. There is water on many of the holes but can be avoided relatively easilly. Not usually very crowded , so worth the hour plus drive for me.
Nice bang for your buck
High Point is a really great value for the $30 it cost to play here. Although the course is not in pristine shape, it is certainly good enough to play a normal round of golf. I really like the track here and there is a nice mix of challenging holes and ones that aren't too bad.
The one negative was the pace of play. When we arrived, we were delayed about an hour and then had to wait on most holes when teeing off. I'm not sure exactly what went wrong, but it needs to be fixed. Perhaps it's too cheap and they overbooked the course?
Quirky with a lot of blind shots
This course has a lot of water and tight fairways, so you may lose some balls. Greens were fast and for the most part rolled true, but the tee boxes were a bit hard and in need of some water and seeding. Fairways seemed fine. Lot's of blind shots, but what was on the other side of them wasn't as ominous as one would think.
Opening hole is great. Unless you can carry the water on your second shot, you may have to lay up closer to the bridge.
Staff was friendly. Ride back on Sunday afternoon down 206 and 15 was slow due to a lot of traffic from people leaving from the lakes.
This course takes some familiarity before being able to put together a good score but I would definitely play it again.
Slow round
Decent course decent layout pace of play was too slow and course was to far to get to, overall condition was fair.
