High Point Golf Club
About
High Point Golf Club is a public course in Montague that has been around since 1966. The course has since undergone major renovations but it still retains the original character of the design. The layout is routed between two massive, sparkling lakes. You won't find any parallel holes on this golf course, it provides plenty of space so you don't have to worry about errant drives. High Point is seemingly mild, but don't be fooled by the traditional 6,783-yard layout. There is a surprising amount of bite to this golf course. Each hole presents a unique challenge but what they have in common are the rolling fairways that are subtly contoured. They leave for some difficult and creative approaches. In addition to the golf course, High Point also has a driving range available as well as putting and chipping greens.

Tough Course & Outstanding Staff
I've played Highpoint a number of times over the years and I never fail to blow up on one or two holes. That's because it's a long and challenging course especially from the back tees. Many holes are a lot more narrow than they look and the two par 3s on the front are tough too.
The course was in nice shape and we buzzed through our round in about 3 hours.
I just want to take the time to thank Brett in the clubhouse as he was very helpful and generous as our time was wrong in the computer and he resolved the problem right away with his common sense. But I had an even bigger problem as I showed up after a 45 minute drive and realized that I had forgotten my golf clubs. Brett was extremely generous in loaning me his own personal clubs for me to use. That was above and beyond the call of duty and was greatly appreciated. Kudos to him for the best customer service I've had all year at a golf course.
nice course conditions but changes needed
some of the white tee boxes need to be moved forward. for the handicap that plays them, its a bit too long a course, especially with the water that comes into play. 16 is not a fair hole for the white tees. and 17, that big tree on the corner on the right has to go!. no need for it there, the hole is long enough and hard enough to reach in two. other than that , its a great course, always in good shape, especially the greens.
good condition
being that it is November 4 when I played it is in great shape
course had some very challenging holes
overall condition of the course was good for end of octobere
first time played
Overall rating would be not bad. 25 dollars or less is a good buy for this course. Definitely would play it again in the future. It's about 1 HR 15 min from my house so once a year is good.
must play next two weeks
We paid 25$ and got a value of 50$ or more. The course was in very good condition. Only complaint was the deer don't rake the traps when they walk thru
Next two weeks are the best trees in full splender
Very Happy
the course was in very good condition, the greens were fast, the staff was very friendly & helpful. this is a challenging course with lots of water. the weather was perfect & we had a great time.
Nice course
Challenging course with many hazards and the course was in great shape.
A country course surrounding a lake
This course is a bit of a drive, 1 1/2 hours from my house. But, it was a beautiful day, and Sussex Cty NJ is a wonderful location. I thoroughly enjoyed playing the course. The views were wonderful around the lake. The greens were in good condition. (If only players would repair their ball marks, many greens would be much better.) Fairways and rough were both in great condition. The clubhouse is a bit tired, but the restaurant looks good with great views of the lake.
Gret greens
Fairway condition was less than average but the greens are great - closely cut, fast, and true. Course set up is a little strange but overall a great deal for $27. Also many houses around with children playing and dogs barking.
stuck in the 80s
I just moved to NJ, so I am relying on reviews before I play each course for the first time. No reviews speak about the course as I see it. So here is the truth:
You will be playing a course that is surrounded by half woods half houses. It felt like I was stuck in the 80s. All of the house around were 3-4 family residents. They were very run down, and it looked depressing. The tee boxes were very beat up, fairways were ok, greens where really nice and fast. But overall it was not pleasing to the eye. It might have been a nice course 30+ years ago, but now it is targeted towards the hacker that doesn't want to pay much. Hey I like cheap rounds of golf too, but I left after 9 holes because it was depressing.
Great Course
High Point is a fun golf experience. Enough challenge to keep every stroke interesting with lots of water hazards. Knowing how you hit each club is valuable as some of the doglegs require selecting a club other than your driver. Greens are in very fine condition and play a bit faster than expected and have many hard to read breaks.
Nice course, Staff needs a manners lesson
We like the course, we had played it before. We arrived early because of holiday, didnt want to be late due to traffic. The first hole was open for 20 minutes but we were told due to the fact that we booked on "golfnow" we couldn't start before our assigned time. So we waited and watched the first fairway for 15 minutes until a father and 2 teenagers who never played before walked up and teed off. The staff then said we could follow them. We followed them for the full 5.5 hour round.
Had a Great Time EXCEPT ...
The course was in EXCELLENT condition due to all the rain we've had ! LUSH fairways and greens [ ESPECIALLY the greens ] on every hole - it was in the BEST shape I've ever seen it and I've played here a number of times in the past. There WERE a few things I wasn't CRAZY ABOUT though ! #1 , there was only ONE WATER BUCKET ON THE ENTIRE COURSE THAT ACTUALLY HAD WATER IN IT !! The KICKER to that was there were NO CUPS believe it or not !! My brother and I just picked it up and drank STRAIGHT FROM THE SPOUT since it was on the 17th hole and WE WERE PARCHED BY THEN !! The place seems like it's being run BY A FEW TEENAGERS ONLY so it really DIDN'T surprise me - only TICKED ME OFF !! We still had a great time IN SPITE of that though just because the course itself was in such GREAT shape !
Interesting course
High Point is an interesting course, situated in the middle of several housing developments, with many lakes throughout. The only real issue I had with the course was that the rough was quite deep and many balls were lost, which annoyed us. But the fairways were mostly well kept and the greens were great. A most unique golfing experience and I will play there again.
High Point Heaven
I personally love this golf course. I only get to play here 1 to 2 times a year because it's an hour and a half away from me. It's hard to get people who want to drive that far to play golf. I would do it more often but I don't want to play as a single. This is a very visual course with water coming into play quite often. It is a course that offers everything you want in a golf course, challenge, narrow and wide fairways, some longer par 4's, and some difficult undulating greens. One thing I will warn you depending on your skill level BRING LOTS OF BALLS.. When I play here I have so much fun that after awhile I don't even bother with writing down a score just enjoy playing the holes. This course is by far my favorite course in NJ. The travel is the only part I don't care for. Beware of the 1st hole, if you don't play it correctly and don't carry the water to the green your day can easily start out with a 10.
great course
really super golf course ,kinda tough the first time playing it ,1st hole is not easy when you don't know it ,anyway the greens were super fast and in fine condition and for a good golfer it is so good ,i loved it but if you've just started playing bring plenty of balls
Great course for low handicappers
But I am 65 years old and a 24 hcp, and I hated the course set up.
Average courses are about 6,00 - 6,100 yards from the mens' tees. This one is over 6,300 yards with a rating of 71.4 and a slope of 133 so it's long and hard. By the end I was feeling really beat up. They have senior tees, but they back all the way down to 5,255 yards with a course rating of 66.5,. so there is no happy medium.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
@Lanny I'm 57, drive it about 220, I'm bad with my fairway woods, and hit a 4-iron about 170. SO, a 400-yard par-4 is very tough for me to reach. Here's what you can try:
Play the whites on the 500-yard first hole. When I was younger, I could hit it 260-270, and hit an iron onto the green if I was fare enough left. Now, it's driver, wedge to the bridge. So even if you are 20 yards shorter, hit an 8 to the bridge, and a 5-iron will get you on.
312?-yd. hole # 2. The first shot nly needs to go 180, you can play the whites there.
394-yd.- hole # 3. You can play the "gold" tees there, which turns it into a 367-yarder. IT'll still be a tough hole, but two good shots will get you to the table.
513-yd - hole # 4. You can make this an easy 408-yarder from the gold tees. IT's driver, 6-iron, wedge for me, so I'm sure that you could play it from the whites, but if need be, shorten it.
197-yd - hole # 5. I need ALL of a 4-iron to get there (it's downhill over a swamp), but a great option would be to go over to the other side, and play the gold tees at 158 yards.
416-yd (IT HAS TO BE LONGER) - hole # 6. I use the same driver, 6-iron, wedge on this as I do on hole # 4. The gold tees give you 46 yards, so try those.
196-yd hole # 7 - Plays shorter, but with the swamp so close to the green (on the right), maybe the 155-yd. gold tees are better.
420-yd hole # 8 - Haven't reached this one in TWO in 5 years. I HAVE chipped in for birdie, though. Still, too long - jump on the 327-yard gold tees.
394-yd. hole # 9 - Can still reach this one with driver, 6-iron. But this is my outer limit. Go gold at 315.
SO the Front nine is White (481), White (312), Gold (367), Gold (408), Gold (158), Gold (370 - more like 450), Gold (155), Gold (327), Gold (315) for a total of 2,893 yards.
BACK NINE: 518-yd. hole # 10 - Take the 175-yd. shot over water out of the mix, go gold at 429. Set the 2nd shot at 100, and have at it.
377-yd. hole # 11 - TOUGH ONE. Ball has to be just to the left of the right-side bunker. I can barely reach there. Go gold at 349, it'll still be reasonably tough.
362-yd. hole # 12 - Go WHITE. A drive of 180 -210 put you in position to hit the green with an iron. stay just right of the bunker on the drive.
305-yd. hole # 13 - A 5-iron to the middle, maybe a "trouble" wood for you. No need to go anything but WHITE on this hole.
140-yd. hole # 14. - I can hit a 7-iron about 140. STILL, about 1/3 of my shots somehow find this water. This hole is not tough, I just make it that way. Go WHITE.
506-yd. hole # 15 - Go GOLD - It's uphill for the second shot, and I need driver, 6-iron to get to the landing area, AND you must be to the right. Use the GOLD tees for a 425-yd. hole.
278-yd. hole # 16 - Ten years ago I could carry both lakes on my way to the green (and sometimes get it there). Smart play now is either a 5-iron, or a wood straight at the bunker. You'll get it over, but will likely not reach the bunker. A good wedge gives you a shot at birdie. Play it WHITE.
404-yd. hole # 17 - Plays like 450. I've BOMBED drives, and still had trouble reaching. Now, the only way that I can reach is a shot to the right, and a punch through the trees. Best play is left, go GOLD at 300, hit it between the 150 & 100 on the left, and go for your par.
115-yd. hole # 18. Same hole, no matter which tees you use. For me, 9-iron on the bottom pin; 8-iron on the top. Gold & Red is actually LONGER than the WHITES here.
BACK NINE - Gold (429), Gold (349), White (362), White (305), White (140), Gold (425), White (278), Gold (300), Any tee (117).
Back Nine Yardage - 2,705 - Total of 11 golds, and seven whites - total yardage of 5,600 (5,598). Good compromise.
