Jamaica Run Golf Club

About
Jamaica Run Golf Club offers one of the most challenging layouts in the Miami Valley. The difficult greens provide most of the trouble. They are small and hard to hit and on many holes they are elevated above the fairway, making it hard to play a run-up shot. The bentgrass fairways are spacious and thankfully more forgiving, but they are bordered by thick rough. Water hazards come into play on several holes. There is even one hole that crosses the meandering creek that runs through the golf course twice. The par-5 18th provides a memorable finish, requiring a tee shot past a large pond to a fairway that sits well below the pond. Finding the right club to use and a good spot to hit are nearly impossible.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
Had some family in town and decided to take them to Jamaica Run because it had been a while since I have played it. Tee boxes were overgrown, greens had dirt areas with dried moss on it like puddles had been sitting there and then dried out. Greens are not taken care of and it showed. It was a goat track. I DO NOT RECOMMEND PLAYING THIS COURSE EVER!
Discount Play for Medium Pay
I played many times over the few years and watched it slowly decline. The last time playing will be my final until things turn around. It’s just not worth $50. All of the greens are infected with what seems to be cyanobacteria making them black, flaking, and crunchy when dry. You won’t putt and enjoy it. Most of the course has slowly been taken over from the standard Kentucky blue and fescue to a very broad leaf invasive grass and crab grass that will grab your club and stop or change your contact at every shot that matters. There’s a reason golf courses try to maintain only fescue or Kentucky Bluegrass. It’s the gold standard for golf clubs making contact and a divot that can be easily repaired. Common field grass was incredibly frustrating to hit out of. The course needs an injection of capital and owners that care about course management. Drop the fee to $30 like the discount course it is and limit the tee times to make time for a massive rehab that is needed. If you can’t maintain fairway bunkers, get rid of them like all the other courses are doing. Invest in irrigation, weed control, seeding, and aeration and people will line up to pay over $50 per round. It’s sad to see and I hope it can be turned around.
Unplayable
Not worth going, maybe would pay $5.
The greens were not playable.
A Mixed Experience
Everything was pretty solid, except the course conditions. There is a brown and crunchy layer of something (maybe fungus..?) that is taking over the greens. Also, quite a few weeds in the rough, and tee boxes are not well kept either.
Bad course
Poor conditions overall, rough tee boxes, awful greens, thick unkept roughs. This course clearly gets no upkeep, it was in really rough shape when I played, this course should never cost $50. This should be a $25 course.
Too much $$$ for what you get.
The cost of the fees was on the higher side for the area. I pay those prices every week at different course but this was crazy. Greens was in really bad shape. A lot of times you couldnt even putt on them. The grass hasnt been cut in a while. What was cut the clippings was everywhere. Tee boxes hasnt been maintained in a long time. If your going to pay their fee add $10 and go to pipestone up the road.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE?!?!
I’m guessing there are new owners because this is not the course it was before. First clue was that I got paired with a group… that’s NEVER happened before at Jamaica Run and I’ve been there for many years at their busiest. Also, why are we taping off the middle of fairways for “construction” and keeping equipment out there? No one is working on it until late afternoon. The greens are now half mud/dirt.. the owners are ruining this course. My buddy told me they rush people off at night so that the owners can golf for free. Never coming back again. If the owners are reading this, I hope you lose your money and if you keep up this crap job you definitely will. Make me a sandwich.
Total neglect of course
Every single green on this course is ruined. Huge scorch marks in multiple spots on each green. The fairways and fringe were poorly maintained and the tee boxes were beat to death.
Paying $49 for this was a major letdown. It'll be years, if ever, before before the course recovers.
This course is a mess
I paid $150 for me and my two boys to play on diseased greens and clover-filled fairways. I’m not expecting country club quality, but this course is almost unplayable. Don’t waste your money.
Not Worth the Money.
Terrible condition for the money you pay to play there. I didn’t even finish my round due to slow play.
I have played this course multiple times over the years. The layout is decent, but the course is in terrible shape. The greens look diseased and have almost become unplayable. It’s a shame, but I probably won’t return…
JR needs to get it together
I love JR—one of my favorite courses. But the maintenance of the course made it almost impossible to enjoy. Both the greens and fairways were in rough shape. So much so that you’re hitting out of the rough—even when you’re clearly in the fairway, and the greens were sometimes 20-30% dirt. Add in the fact that players don’t fix their divots and it creates tough out.
Not worth the hour drive
Unfortunately, this was not a fun course or experience.
When I checked-in, the receptionist was gone. It was a long wait (5 minutes) for the person to re-appear. He was out moving around carts. Short staffed.
As a single, I ended up behind four 4-somes and a 6(!)-some in front of them! The players were 25+ handicaps (spraying everywhere). I was not allowed to play through. No ranger. I finally gave up and skipped holes to get ahead.
Many greens had burnouts and not puttable.
A sign out front for “no coolers allowed”. It was over 90 degrees. No water on the course. Dangerous.
When I “finished”, I returned to the clubhouse. Again, no one at the register.
Once he appeared, I explained I had to skip holes and wanted to play a new round. What would it cost?
Over $40!
I don’t think so.
Great course
Was not certain what to expect with mixed reviews. Staff were awesome. Will play again.
Playable
Alot of grass piles made off fairway shots harder to find so slowed play somewhat. Greens not as conditioned as used to be.
Trying
Course used to be beautiful. Is currently in a renaissance of sorts when a new grounds crew and watering system. Will be back.
Greens like cement
The only thing bad about this past round at Jamaica Run was the condition of the greens. They were all like cement, and some of them had bare spots of hard packed dirt.
