About
Jamaica Run Golf Club offers one of the most challenging layouts in the Miami Valley. The difficult greens provide most of the trouble. They are small and hard to hit and on many holes they are elevated above the fairway, making it hard to play a run-up shot. The bentgrass fairways are spacious and thankfully more forgiving, but they are bordered by thick rough. Water hazards come into play on several holes. There is even one hole that crosses the meandering creek that runs through the golf course twice. The par-5 18th provides a memorable finish, requiring a tee shot past a large pond to a fairway that sits well below the pond. Finding the right club to use and a good spot to hit are nearly impossible.

I booked a tee time knowing the course was going through a transition of management and that the course was not in the best of shape. $25 for a full 18 and cart is a great deal. The course layout has always been challenging. The tee boxes were cut and it made it harder to find the color of tee you were playing from, the grass was a bit long and the dandelions were in abundance. The fairways were in ok shape on some of the holes and not so good shape on others. You can tell they were trying to reshape the fairways to separate them from the rough and they could have used some watering as it was very dry in spots. The green were again ok outside of the greens that they were actively trying to redo. We had multiple putts that ended up in sand on the greens. Did it cost a few strokes on the round, yes but for $25 it’s something you can deal with. If you’re just starting out as a golfer this course in this condition will give you a good chance to play at a cheaper rate compared to other courses in the area. Hopefully they get the course back to the shape it was in the past bc it can be a great challenging course again.
