The Trout Club
About
The Trout Club (formerly known as Licking Springs Golf Club) sprawls across a scenic landscape of rolling hills dotted with natural springs that is also home to an abundance of wildlife. Jack Kidwell, a local course architect who has played in role in many of Ohio's golf courses, designed the challenging layout. The course has a traditional design covered with mature trees, which are especially concentrated along the fairways. The undulating greens provide excellent putting surfaces. Their small size and quick speed will test your short game skills. The course is definitely a shotmaker's layout, placing a heavier emphasis on the placement off of the tee rather than distance. It is a layout that requires careful course management and skillful strategy. In addition to the golf course, The Trout Club offers two practice putting and chipping greens as well as a public swimming pool.

Superior Course
This course is in excellent condition and in a beautiful setting.. Large trees but the course is wide and well manicured by maintenance! Very friendly in the club house and helpful. The greens are the hardest we have played, watch the slants! Nothing but good to say here and a great place to have lunch or a drink on a huge patio area of the restaurant.
Too bad Lonnie was not working
This was my best round ever here. I never waited or had anyone waiting on me to play behind me the whole round! The only awkward thing was the gentleman working the counter when I arrived. Lonnie is so great! He had left at noon apparently. I understand you can't work all day everyday Lonnie, just clone yourself and then that solves that!
Booked a tee time thru golf now for 2:28pm, when we arrived they were already three groups on the first tee box so right away I was concerned with the fact that either the course booked tee times that close together, or even worse if they were letting walk ons take priority over golfers with scheduled tee times. So right away my expectations are already starting to dip slightly but I didn’t won’t to be discouraged about the round so I stayed optimistic but that quickly turned to disappointment when I noticed the two groups ahead of us, (consisting of two elderly gentlemen with the pace you would expect from guys who where alive when the game was invented, and the other a foursome of stereotypical twenty-something year olds who really should have better things to do on a Saturday.) had absolutely no idea what golf etiquette was let alone how to practice it. After an hour, the twosome I was in finally made it to the third tee box where after fifteen minutes of painfully watching the bro squad in front of us, we discovered they had gotten their cart stuck in a roped off area of the course do to wet conditions. It was at this moment we made the executive decision to turn around and call it a day. After being questioned by the club house for the early stoppage and discussing the matter at hand the pro shop manager personally gave us rain checks and seemed sincere in his apologies for the conditions and circumstances. I hope to try the course again and remain optimistic that it has a lot more to offer that what my first experience did.
Nice course, has a challenging layout
Nice course, greens are in good shape with some hard breaks. Front nine is relatively easy with unique hazards on each hole. No sand traps on this course, but many creeks and ponds and mature trees Several fairways suffering from the 2018 summer heat, thin grass. Back nine is built on a hill, with many fairways sloping left to right, or right to left requiring strategic placement of your tee shot. Back nine also has many blind shots to the green. Course knowledge is essential to score well.
Mixed feelings
When you first pull in everything looks really beautiful. Club house and restaurant is great. The course has a really nice layout but the upkeep is rough around the edges. Tee boxes need cut also. Some dead areas in the fairways need addressed. Back plays a lot tougher. Lots of hills and blind shots. If they figure out a way to upkeep the course the way they upkeep the welcome area and facilitates, it would be a really great place overall.
Excellent day to play goldf
I play the Trout Club quite often. I enjoyed my round with my kids today and I recommend playing the course this year. The management and staff have put a lot into the course to make it challenging and fun.
A beautiful setting
A very challenging course calling for putting one's shot making skills to the test. The tees, fairways, and greens were in great shape. It's so much fun for me to play there. And after the round we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the Club's restaurant.
First time
Been seeing great Hot Deals on this course and finally took advantage of it. Amenities are very nice. Ate lunch there- very nice (and good food!). Course was in very good shape. Not long at all, but it has its challenges. Will be back!
Very nice course
Scenic course in great condition. Only drawback is back nine is very hilly with lots of blind shots. Other than that, this is a very nice course.
Short yardage wise but tough
Don't be fooled by the yardage on the scorecard, this track is tough no flat spots anywhere. Greens slope allot. No bunkers which was odd but didn't make it any less difficult. Only complaint would be some of the blue tee boxes were uphill.
Quirky but FUN
Interesting course. Rolling hills, lots of trees, trout steams, no sand. Several blinks shots. Tricky greens. A very pleasant round of golf. Not something you would want to walk and longer playing than the yardage would indicate. Great restaurant. Have played it for many years, both when it was "needy" and now that is greatly improved.
Hidden danger.
Couldn't see a lot of the trouble. Small little streams not visible from tee. Also took forever to play. Teed off 9:48 a.m. finished at 2:35 p.m. Not enjoyable.
It's not a long course but the Hills and the greens make it very challenging
First time in three years
I had not played this course in over three years because it was in very bad shape the last time I played it. What a difference!
The course is now in excellent condition. The improvements that have been made are remarkable. The greens were in grest condition, as was the rest of the course. You still have to know where to hit the ball off many tees to stay out of trouble but that just makes it an interesting course. Enjoyed the round and will go back soon.
Great coarse
This is a local favorite of mine and you can tell they are putting money into the course to make it better great deal and great condition
