The Trout Club (formerly known as Licking Springs Golf Club) sprawls across a scenic landscape of rolling hills dotted with natural springs that is also home to an abundance of wildlife. Jack Kidwell, a local course architect who has played in role in many of Ohio's golf courses, designed the challenging layout. The course has a traditional design covered with mature trees, which are especially concentrated along the fairways. The undulating greens provide excellent putting surfaces. Their small size and quick speed will test your short game skills. The course is definitely a shotmaker's layout, placing a heavier emphasis on the placement off of the tee rather than distance. It is a layout that requires careful course management and skillful strategy. In addition to the golf course, The Trout Club offers two practice putting and chipping greens as well as a public swimming pool.

Better than expected
Fairways were actually cut a little shorter. They are usually longer than average. 2 or 3 greens had large brown spots that looked dug out.
Great time
Beautiful setting. Love the layout. Lonnie in the clubhouse is fantastic.
Manager on Duty...WAS AWESOME!
He was running everywhere, prepping food, getting drinks, checking people in, etc! He was so friendly and very helpful! Course played very nice!
Raindrops over the trout club
Had a great day in Newark at the Trout Club with my step-Bro-n-law. We attempted to beat the rain which was predicted. Only got to the 8th and it cut loose. We really needed the rain, just not while we were playing. We waited it out and continued on a great day at the trout club. This course is demanding and requires some thought of attack. Always enjoyable especially with a huge GULFPASS discount. Everything is in great shape and the staff is very appreciative of the patrons…
Fun and challenging
First time on this course and it was long, hilly and the greens were murder. Keep everything above the pin I was told. Couldn't agree more. Lot of sloped greens. Fairways were in great shape despite a lot of recent rains. The back 9 got crazy with carts running everywhere. The 11-16 holes are parallel and a lot of errant shots ended up in other fairways and people playing crossways on holes. Loved 17. Some of the views are spectacular.
Back nine is a mess but…
They have done a nice job getting it in good condition and the front nine is fun.
Great shape and conditions
Course was better than expected. Slow start but after a couple holes things clicked the rest of the round. Course is in stellar shape, thanks….
Even though it's only 40 minutes from downtown Columbus, I had never heard of the Trout Club resort. It seemed nice enough online, but J was shocked when I pull up to massive, beautiful log cabins and a parking lot full of high end cars. It clearly seems like one of the premier places to play/hang out at in Licking county. Amazing course with a nice mix of hilly right fairways and a few really nice open flat holes. The course was in great shape too. Only 1 green with a little sand patch, and hole placement was far away from it. Price aside, this is one of the best public courses I have played in Ohio. I will play this course again, & I would recommend that you do too.

Hidden gem. Beautiful course. Lonnie in the pro shop is a great guy and always helpful.
Rough Back 9
Front 9 is a lot of fun and well designed. The back 9 however needs some work, lost plenty of balls in the fairway, it’s hard at times to see where you are supposed to be hitting, lots of holes very close to one another.
