Sugar Isle Golf Course
About
Sugar Isle Golf Course was designed by Jack Kidwell, a familiar name among southern Ohio golf courses. Water is a prominent feature of the course, Kidwell incorporated it on more than half of the holes. Some 20 white sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout the layout, providing a scenic contrast to the water and lush greens. For an added challenge, many of the fairways are lined with mature trees although there is some room for error, which makes them more accessible. It is a course that will make you think but it is not too intimidating for beginners. The versatility makes it popular for outings and tournaments. Sugar Isle has even hosted the area's high school programs for more than 30 years. In addition to the golf course, there is also a driving range and large putting green.

Great Fun
We absolutely love the fact this course is so close to us when we are here on vacation and the staff is so friendly. It is such a nice place to golf with challenging holes and great layout. We will be back as the price is always right!
Course is burnt up
It had been several years since I last played Sugar Isle and thought I would give it a try due to the great deal offered on GolfNow. While it has been very dry the past 2 months, it was obvious the course hasn't been watering the fairways. They were hard as rock. Most approach shots were like hitting off hardpan.
The greens were rolling great but obviously hard as well. It was very difficult to get any green to hold an approach shot. You typically had to play short and let your ball roll to most greens.
While the course was in bad shape due to lack of water, I might try it again next spring to see if conditions improve.
ekamiller, Thank you for taking the time to come out and play and leave us your feedback on the course. We do apologize for the dryness on the course. During the summer, we had our main irrigation pump go out and we have most recently replaced it. However, during that time, we received no rain, so we are currently in a state of recovery. In addition, we use a bluegrass in the fairways, which always leads to a more firm turf. With that being said, we look forward to your next visit and hope to exceed your expectations next time out!
This course is brown
They obviously don't water anything but the greens the fairways were hard as a rock and as brown as dirt. The greens were in good shape the golf carts were old and filthy. The course is not what I remember 20 years ago that's how long it's been since I played there. Might not go back because there's to many nice courses out there to put up with playing on rock hard ground.
Kenneth3944698, thank you for leaving us your feedback and we certainly apologize for your negative experience. We recently had a main irrigation pump go out, so we recently replaced that pump. However, it takes time to recover from those weeks of dryness and heading into the winter months makes it tough as well. As the course matures there are many maintenance items we have on our list to address. We appreciate your long time loyalty to the course and hope to see you back in the near future. If you need/want to discuss further, please feel free to reach out at sugarislemanagement@gmail.com.
Very Poor Conditions
I played this course twice in 2014 and was excited to get back out there. The weather was beautiful but that was about the only good thing. The greens were acceptable but the rest of the course was in deplorable shape. There were ropes across every fairway with areas you couldn't enter. Along with that, there were patches of dirt all across the fairways as well. Every tee box (except for the par 3s) was not in use so they had you tee out of the middle of the fairway, shortening every hole and giving you an uneven stance every time. To make matters worse, when I got my cart at the start the course worker said "She's a fast one." Well that was true for 3 holes before the cart started to sputter, before completely dying and leaving me stranded on the 15th hole. I don't know if I'll ever play this course again, and if I do it will be because it is dirt cheap.
golf
This course is usually a decent place to go play.not sure why it was so dry
Course is improving!
Not a resort course but for a weekend round, it's great. Greens are in good condition, fairways are okay. They've changed the sequence of the holes and it is an improvement. The course plays much better now. They're adding new tees for the shorter hitters which should be in place probably next season. If you play it from either of the back two sets of tees, it gives you a reasonable challenge.
Decent course
Condition of the course was fair. The fairways were not in the best shape. Greens were kind of shotty compared to other courses
Course and Cart are in bad shape
Front nine not in great shape, bare spots all thru the fairways, greens were showing many signs of dried out ad burnt. Back nine was average. Golf cart#80 was in bad shape, when starting to move the engine would run but cart would pause then suddenly lunge and jump hard. Changed cart on the back nine.
Poor course. Needs taken care of. Teribly slow pace of play.
I was looking forward to this course after I got a good deal and looked at the layout on the website. This course has a great layout, and if it was taken care of, it would be one of my favorites. But it was very neglected. Tee boxes were terrible. Dead grass, crabgrass, weeds. Fairways were ok, but a lot of dead grass. Roughs were not mowed and were long and thick. Greens were in good shape however. They were challenging with difficult undulations. As for pace of play, it was terrible. There was a group of 4 in front of us who would let our twosome play through because they said they were with the 4 in front of them. And every green we came up behind them, and saw 8 of them together on a hole. We informed the ranger, but they just separated for 1 hole and got back together. From my point of view, it was very poor course management, and we ended up out for almost 6 hours.
Hard and fast
The course was in good overall condition. The greens were harder than expected. Pretty quick for a public course I would say. We went in the afternoon on a Friday and didn't have much trouble with being crowded. The one problem I did have was the bunkers were pretty hard, just avoid those and you will have a good round.
A lot of bang for the buck!
Love the new changes. The course is in good shape, my only concern for future rounds is the clover is coming up. I hate losing balls in the fairways...lol
Great course, but...
I love this course. It's fun to play. Some difficult holes, some wide open holes. Grass is in great condition. But if you are into using golf apps from your mobile device, be aware that the course is not updated since they've redesigned some of the holes. The golf carts need some updates as well. But if you don't mind those two things, it's a fun place to golf.
Great Course
I love this course, I play at least once a year. Would love to play more but don't live close. Always in great shape, I always have a great time.
good place to play
Great. Place to play Will be back soon thanks well played
Great course
Plenty of water hazards makes this course very fun to play
great day
Other than the extra 5 per green fee from booking thru golfnow it was a great time. All staff was great and the course was in the best condition ive seen it in.
Nice course
About the 6th time out there. It's s nice fun course. Definitely worth the money.
Not much in the line if food
Good amount if staff on hand making sure all were playing golf ready. Updated hole marking (where to go) and updated washing stations... Draw back bathroom facilities for women..
Horrible
There is no such thing as a fairway here as it was cut maybe 1/8 of an inch shorter than the rough. No drinking fountains at all on the course makes for a terrible time as well. Mowers had no respect for the golfers, just kept mowing and forced us to wait about 10 minutes on each tee box. Also, probably the most rude greens I have ever laid eyes on. Not a single flat spot on any of the greens not to mention the BS aeration marks that make it impossible to put on. So if you're interested in having a heat stroke, don't mind playing rough no matter how straight your ball was, and love playing Plinko on the greens, I still would never play this course again.
Thank you TravelGolferUSA for your review and we are thrilled you enjoyed yourself out on the course. We can't thank you enough for your kind words and enthusiasm about our wonderful golf course. Please let us know if you need anything at all and we look forward to seeing you again!
