Opened in 1923, Madison Country Club is one of the oldest courses in the area. It has a traditional design that measures to a modest 6,145 yards from the back tees. The golf course may be short by modern standards but this member-owned course has been a local favorite since it first opened. The classic layout has wide, player-friendly fairways that offer plenty of room and the terrain is mostly flat, making it a good golf course to walk. There are a few mature trees scattered throughout and you'll also come across some strategically placed bunkers as well. Madison Country Club is ideal for beginners but it's also a great round of practice for more advanced players. In addition to the golf course, there is also a driving range and short-game area at the club.

Very accommodatiing Staff

This is a recovering (former Private Club) that is making every effort to establish a new following. They are the most pleasant and cheerful people that I have run into at a golf course, yet this season. They treated us like old friends, disregarding that we were there on a Golf Now discount rate. This is not true everywhere. All of the nice folks at this course deserve compliments for their great service, and hospitality.

Better than last time

Played this course about three or four years ago. It had just gone semi private. Course is in Very Good shape! And the track is very cool, very old school. A classic! Will be back several times this year. Can't wait to see it in the Fall!

Great conditions, fast play

We played at 8am on a Saturday, the course was green, cut, bunkers were clean. Even with all their tee times being booked, we were able to play under 4 hours with little to no waiting and no one waiting on us, tee times were well spread out. Tee boxes were clean and divots were fixed. Rough was full with few dead spots. A little course maintenance but it did not take away from the experience. Overall it was a great course and a good test of golf.

Golf

Good condition; fair pace of play; traps in moderate to good condition; could use MUCH better course info (tips/info on each hole) for first time (or forgetful) golfers. Signs on tee box showed hole design but -0- info on (eg) distance to water, etc.

New owner. Trying to fix the course back to its once great condition.

Played 18 holes with a couple of friends. Staff very friendly. Got spring rates so the price was great. New owner so they're trying to get the course fixed up. Put new sand in most of the traps. Good thing. I was in five of them. Tee markers and ball washers weren't out yet but they're just trying to get the course playable right now. Will play a few more times this year and can give a better evaluation of the course conditions then.

What once was...

I hope the best for Madison. I was lucky enough to play it when it was still a thriving, private club. It's certainly not thriving any longer. However, I don't think it's too far gone to save.

The course design is a gem. Not long. But you'll face a few 400+ par 4s to keep your attention. Small greens that are elevated and strategically bunkered. Only one pond and a few streams crossing fairways. Very classic. Very fun.

The staff is still trying to figure things out. Not enough carts. No computerized tee time schedule. Greens looked like they suffered some disease in 2012, but still rolled pretty well.

All in all, great potential. Worth trying out once more later this year. I only hope the place goes up from here. It deserves to be special again.

Just not well maintained.

This is a course that at 1 time had some of the best greens in the area. But since going public that couldn't be further from the truth. greens don't smooth and are very slow and bumpy. tees and fairways dont look too bad but this is a course that if you had a choice to play it or pass on it I would recommend the latter.
