Windmill Lakes Golf Club
About
Windmill Lakes Golf Club consistently ranks as one of the best courses in the state and is definitely the top golf course in northeastern Ohio. Located in Ravenna, it is the home course for the men's and women's golf teams at Kent State, which is only six miles east of the club. The large, undulating greens are the layout's defining feature. The greens also have a reputation for being some of the best-maintained in the area, allowing them to roll fast and true. The fairways, tee boxes, and rough also boast the same great conditions. More than 50 bunkers are strategically placed throughout the golf course and there are seven lakes that provide water hazards. The Windmill Lakes layout, which measures to just under 7,000 yards, only has two par 5s but there are several long par 4s that demand accurate drives and strong iron play.

Will try it again
Course looked very nice but weather conditions were poor. I look forward to visiting again mid season.
Same Old Windmill
Windmill is one of my favorite courses in the area, and it never fails to live up to my expectations. If you catch Windmill at the height of the season, you can't get much closer to country club conditions than here. No gimmicks, just straight ahead golf. Hit the ball well, and scores can be had, but miss your shots and you will pay the price.
Great condition even when it is raining!
Played the course in early October with rain threatening and then descending upon the course on the back nine. Even after a sizeable downpour and puddles on the greens, the course drained quickly and play was resumed. That is a sign of a well maintained course! Turns out the rain soaked greens helped my putting and I made a birdie on hole 14!
Course was in fantastic shape
Staff was very helpful and super friendly with a very good knowledge of new equipment
This course has extra long greens.
I come here as often as I can.
Although it's not too challenging, the yardage on most holes is longer than normal - which is great!! The course has always been in great condition.
One of my Cleveland Area favorites.
Windmill Lakes is well maintained and a great value. Friendly staff. Outstanding and well stocked pro shop. You can always find a good bargain in equipment and clothes. Quite challenging from the tips, but multiple sets of tees allows everyone to enjoy the course. Pace of play usually very good. Home course of Kent State University mens golf team.
Excellent course and a great deal
I booked a last minute tee time for just a few dollars that may be the best deal ever! The course situation is average in terms of scenery, trees, hills, but the lay out is excellent and challenging. It's a par 70 and we played the blue tees, and for an average driver (225ish), I was left with numerous 175-200 approach on the long par 4's that are many. It worked the longer approaches game to the max! Consider that when you choose your tees. Greens have decent undulation, but not outrageous. Fairways in good shape, and the pro shop is huge. Highly recommend.
The course looks like a country club
The course was in great shape. The greens and fairways were in perfect shape. Almost like carpet. The greens were fast and played nice.
Nice and challenging course
Fast greens and tough pin placement, nice tee boxes well maintained and groomed.
Will def be back...
I'm an average golfer who gets out 4 or 5 times a week and just heard of this course. I like to play new courses whenever possible, and decided to catch a round for $28 with a buddy on Tues. From the first tee box to the last this course was in great shape. Tee boxes were level and lacked the battered divot marks you see on some courses. Fairways were cut perfect and the rough wasn't to rough for any stray shot we hit. The greens were a love hate for my friend and I. They were in prestine shape and reads were dead on. Our only issue came from missing easy gimmie putts. Unfortantely one can't blame the greens for our lack of putting savy. If your a fairly straight hitter you can def score well here. Bads shots still have an opportunity for a scramble to the green for a decent score. The staff wasn't the best but wasn't the worse. I'm not one to expect personality from college students who are working to buy books and cheap beer. The proshop does boast a fairly large selection of golf appearal which on this day was discounted fairly well. Overall this course was well the trip, money and exceeded our expectations. Will def play here more in the future.
country club conditions
best around for the money perfect fairways great greens
Nice fairways compared to other local courses
Windmill lakes is one of the nicest courses around. Pro shop has everything, nice manicured fairways, excellent driving range.
A beautiful coarse
Fairways & greens in super condition, with undulating greens. Had a fun day on the links.
Great golf course, always a joy to play!
About an hour trip for us, but well worth the trip.
Great, a must play
As always course was in great condition, starter was very friendly and helpful. Windmill lakes never disappoints
What more could you ask for
In my opinion, this course is the best mix of conditions and value in the area. $35 after noon on a weekend is a STEAL. Best pro shop in northeast Ohio. Smooth, fast greens, bunkers with sand, and good tee boxes and fairways. Fair test of golf. No gimmicks. I've played here at least 10 times this year, and it delivers EVERY TIME. Only negative is it doesn't drain great, so expect path only after a heavy rain.
Great value for a top public course.
Great course difficult greens. Sand traps well maintained and on all holes.
Beautiful and Challenging layout....
I had heard about Windmill Lakes from a friend and spoke of the beauty and the challenge....words couldn't describe it.
What a gorgeous course....challenging, narrow, the greens rolled beautifully but were tough....
A really enjoyable experience!!!!!
Windmill is a great course
I live close to this course so it has always been a favorite of mine (im up there so much the staff knows my name now). Anytime I can play here I do the greens are always in top shape some of the best around, the fairways are always in good shape. The only thing bad I can say about this course is when it rains the course is on a low point so it holds the water and keeps it wet. Great GPS systems on the carts and the pro shop has everything you will ever need.
A true test of golf
As a scratch or better golfer, windmill lakes is by far the best public track around. its an extremely fair test of golf. Fairways are tight but if you can keep it in play off the tee you'll be rewarded, no gimmicks out there. Also, it is easily the most well-maintained public course around. nothing quite compares to the condition of their fairways, approaches, and greens. I would say its pretty similar condition to numerous private clubs in the area like chagrin valley cc, walden gc. greens are never very fast but are consistently quick and rolling true. only iffy part about the course is the bunkers and they aren't bad at all, just not up to private standards
