Excellent staff and great course
The city of Stow should every proud of its city course. The staff does an excellent job in keeping the course in top condition. They are very customer friendly and always take good care of our group outing every year.
Enjoyable Course
I play here multiple times per year even though I live about 40 minutes away. The course is very scenic and has a fun layout with a nice diversity of holes. The staff is very friendly and the homemade chicken salad is delicious.
One of the Best
I drive 54 miles to play this wonderful course. It is somewhat challenging and beautifully laid out, especially #5 with a dog leg right going up that hill. Great variety of food to keep us going is also a big plus.
Good track
Fox Den is a good track to work on being straight. There are a couple of holes that need a bell for the landing area. Greens roll true and some are very hard to hit. Typically back UPS on certain holes for slow play. Course when I played last was under repair. Overall nice course. Great pro shop and snack bar. Range could use some help.
Change Price
I’ve played this course since I was a kid, even qualified for the state tournament here in 2004. However since the city has bought the course they charge too much for what they offer. The course is always in great condition, but the lay out is pretty basic. Down the road you’re paying literally some times half the cost at Raccoon Hill. Not as nice of a course but worth the $23 to ride 18. Make the cost to play here more reasonable for what you’re offering the public and maybe even add some better deals in the tee time golf pass. But the price to play here is driving people to go a mile down the street to another basic lay out.
Great local course!
Very nice course, well maintained and reasonably prices. Nice elevation changes and variety of holes.
Nice Place to Play
My friends and I play on many different courses each year. We'll play Fox Den 3-4 times during a season. This course is not particularly long, but has some challenging holes that are difficult for even a very good golfer. We very much enjoy this course. The staff is pleasant and the rates are fair. Well worth a visit.
50 degrees in mid Nov!
Made it to Fox Den with my father n law. Aside from a bunch of leaves on a few of the greens the course was in good shape. Wish the new Hole #6 par 5 was open but at least the new #5 par 3 was. Great hole too, and I like the change. Played in just over 3 hours and had a blast in mid Nov!
Memberships
Around Christmastime of last year, I bought a junior membership for only $270 that allowed anytime during the weekday and after 2 on holidays/weekends. Totally worth it. Played 50+ rounds (Between 4 and 45 holes each time) and loved every minute of it. The course isn't a country club, you can't expect that. However, it is one of the nicest manicured public courses around. It is fairly easy, once you get the feel of the greens, which are slower than the country club but faster than a badly-maintained public track. The only request for this course would be to lengthen the tees. I can only drive the ball about 220 yards but I put up multiple rounds in the low 70's and only two scores over 90 all from the tips (6400 yards). The renovation of 5 and 6 was badly needed, as many of my younger friends would complain about the layout of the old design on 5. I befriended a few of the usuals, and may I say, they may not be the best golfers, but they are very nice and they all play the appropriate tees, so I couldn't think of anyone better to play with. The staff is always very nice, especially Nick, who would always recognize me and find me a time to go off. The driving range is simple, but it has plenty of targets and there is never a wait for a hitting bay, so no complaints there. The course was in especially good shape for most of the year, except for one very wet spell during the month of July, where there was standing water in the fairway of 14, making the rough a more desireable landing spot for the tee ball and the second shot. The women at the bar are always very nice and they sure know how to cook a good burger, so be sure to tip them well. Larry Manski, one of the coaches there, is perfect for beginners and advanced golfers alike. He and Connor McCauley helped me drop 30 strokes off my handicap this year alone I am hoping that the price of the membership stays the same, as I would be willing to purchase it next year.
Nice course
My first time playing here. Was happy with all areas of the course. The greens were well kept and fast, the yardage at the tees were accurate. Better fairway yardage markers would be helpful.
Love the changes!
The course was in great shape. I really like the changes they are making to holes 5 and 6. Even though it is a bit of a drive for me, I find this one of the best values in the area.
Horrible pace of play
I have never reviewed a course before, but this was necessary. (5 hours and 20 minutes, and this is a short course) On the front side we played behind a 6-some! Pace of play was so slow on the back nine, I called the club house from number 12. They never sent out a ranger to help. I will say that I played this course many times and never had this problem. Also, this was the worst condition that I have seen Fox Den in all the years I've played it.
Greens Looked Fast
.....but we're really kind of slow. Took a while to get used to. Course was pretty rough.
Challenging Golf Course
Excellent golf course that requires all elements of scoring. You have to think about lie, placement and strategy of iron and wood play.
Fox den
Pace was average, players didn't seem to be in a hurry. Coarse was good except 5 and 6 under construction. 6 is ridiculous in length. Staff was slow in the clubhouse with service and food.
Slow and in bad shape
Played here earlier in the year and they were changing some holes, they did a terrible job of that. The new tee is laid out sod and it is horrible. Lots of bare spots on the fairways. No rangers so it was extremely slow, about 5+ hours, Won't go back for quite a while no matter how cheap it was.
Good course busy for Wednesday
The comment that sums up the round
"What is this....free golf day?" Said an older golfer as we walked off the course.
