Pecan Valley at Mohawk Park Golf Course

The first nine were hard as a rock. Both fairways and greens were dry and very fast.

The second nine were in much better shape. Still rough in spots, but overall much better.

The play was fast; our twosome finished in 3 hours.

The staff were friendly and efficient.

Overall it was a decent round.

They should really let you know before you pay full price that each hole is soaked or under water. The cart paths were covered in mud. Overall terrible experience

5 stars is based on what I would expect for a muni course. This one is great, especially for first time golfers. This was my wife's first time out on a full 18 holes, and the shorter front nine really was a good way to break things in. Definitely recommend this for anyone learning golf. Not too much water out there, but nonetheless I seem to find it every time

Everyone at Mohawk kind of regards Pecan Valley as the “children’s course” because of its mid-2000’s redesign to accommodate The First Tee program. I am glad TFT exists because we need young golfers, but redesigning cherished holes to make them easier isn’t something that appeals to most golfers. However, it is my favorite course to play at Mohawk Park because:

1. It is always the less busy of the two courses.

2. Oklahoma legend Perry Maxwell’s design of many of the holes on Pecan Valley are the most challenging and fun of either course.

The course is short, they took the course and reversed the nines, the old front 9 is now the back 9. They chopped down some par fives on the new front 9 to make a layout friendlier for kids. There are some challenges on the front, but overall F9 is very easy. Par here is 32. There are four par 3’s and 5 par 4’s. #1 is a par three, and it’s left-hand proximity to water makes it the toughest par 3. #2 is a drivable green par 4, scandalously short. Holes 3-8 are the same story, short, but needing placement to set up for the Maxwell greens. #9 is probably my favorite of the redesigned holes, a blind approach to the green to prepare you for the abrupt advance in difficulty on the back.

The back nine of Pecan is regarded as just as fun as the Woodbine course, and you’ll find many a golfer sneak over from the Woodbine front nine to escape a slow foursome. #10 is a par 5, finally, and a good birdie opportunity. #12 and #13 dogleg somewhat and #14 and the tougher par5 #15 require the navigation of some large pecan trees. #17 is my favorite on both courses and most indicative of the use of elevation in Maxwellian design. A 200yd dogleg to the water par 4 where club selection is important to avoid both the water and a large left hand bunker. Then from there it’s another 170 over the water and uphill to the green. #17 is not for kids. #18 is easier, but the same story as far as a tall plateaued green that challenges club selection.

Pros: Maxwell designed with challenging greens, good layout, seldom busy, good morale booster on the front leading to a reality check on the back.

Cons: Traps need improving badly. Tee boxes too. Will not be the toughest course you ever play and sometimes the front feels like going back to tee-ball and really laying some smoke down on the kids.

I used to live in Tulsa and came to visit friends and get some golf in. To start it off, we showed up 40 minutes early from our Tee off to get checked in and hit the putting green. Our T time was 6:50 AM. We never got to hit the putting green because of how long it took us to go through line to even pay to play. We actually had 2 minutes to T off once we payed and had a line in front and behind waiting to T off. The greens were patchy and no matter how you hit it you couldn’t get a proper line. Then after 9 headed to 10 we ended up on the conjoined course since it’s poorly labeled which course is which. A lot of par 3’s. 7 iron was my number one used club all day. Then when we finished golfing there were over ten groups waiting in the parking lot for a cart. One group waited an hour just to have a cart. We were so fed up and still had so much energy since it was mostly par 3’s that we actually called around and found another course to go play. Do yourself a favor and pick another course. I will definitely not be returning.

Course was on good shape, pace was slow at times but was very busy.

Front nine was in terrible shape. More of an executive 9 as no par 5’s. Hardly anyone playing it so pace of play is great. Back nine is much more like regular muni course conditions. Overall fine for occasional hackers, but with front 9 the price should be quite a bit less than we paid.

Haven't played this course in a few months but was just looking at some hot deals for the day and notice a hot deal here at Pecan Course for $50. A regular tee time is $33, so why is this even considered a hot deal? I've noticed it before but figured it was an accident. Someone needs to look into getting this changed because someone new or even an amateur may be looking to play this course for the first time and a $50 dollar round isn't going to draw any new people to the course which is a loss because this is a good course including Woodbine as well. I hope this is addressed because I'm one of those guys that loves trying to new courses and hot deals is where i look to find them.

Really turned out to be better than I thought. Excellent greens but some needed to be blown off, like someone mowed rough and blew discharge onto greens. Huge geese problem as well. With all that it’s really a shame it’s an affordable yet very good course that could be great with a little better care.

Course was in great shape. Front 9 was shot thank there was 4 par 3s and the rest par 4s. Only thing I didn't like was the lay out most all tee boxes was right close to greens. So people in front of you was teeing off close to green you was playing. But over all nice course. Pace of play good hardly ever had to wait.
