Greens were a little sandy
They plugged the greens about three weeks ago so they were a little slow compared to normal. Pace of play was really slow considering we teed off right after a tourney ended. But overall the course was in great shape.
Another great day
Always well maintained but difficult course with all the bunkers
We played 18 holes in less than 3 1/2 hours. Fairways were good, greens were wet and sandy.
Overall, the course was good for that time of the year.
The Reserve, from 85 ave golfer prospective
Look, the reason I go to the Reserve is the course. Its the best course on the West Side except for Pumpkin. Its challenging, yet allows good scores if you play well. I just like the course, both sides (North and South). Every hole is different and challenging. Its always in great shape, very great shape. I think that"s their strength and hopefully they won't forget that. Cause the rest fo the place is mediocre. The downsides are the price, which you can overcome with Golf Now once in awhile. The pace of play was problematic this last round. Barely made over 5 hours. Had to watch people ahead of me that were so slow it makes your head ache. No marshals around to give me some positive talk. But if you have 6 hours to kill then whatever. I just hope they remember the course is the honey and they need to keep it up and running expertly.
Greens were disappointing
Greens need to cut and rolled. Very bumpy and sandy. Even though we called and asked if they had been sanded, and they said it had been 3 weeks.
The course was in fantastic shape
The fairways and greens were perfect. The rough was rough but not too rough. Maybe my new favorite course.
This course is Beautiful.
Great golf course, remember to stay in the fairways, the rough can be very trying at times!! Always a good time playing at the Reserve!
Great experience
This course is very well maintained and is very challenging. The staff was very very friendly and the facilities were amazing. Eventhough we only got got half our round in, (Rain) we enjoyed the experience
Great layout.
I've played both courses quite a few times all times of year.
Every time i have played the greens have been slow even in the middle of summer! The greens on the Portland city courses are consistently faster and in better shape. The first 10 yrs the course was open they were much faster.
Good, but not great.
I was really hoping this course would be among my favorites. To my disappointment, it's not. Maybe I came at a bad time.
Two weeks prior, I had played THE RESERVE north course. It's more links style and plenty fun, although a bit overpriced. I was a little concerned when I played that course because it did not live up to the hype surrounding it.
The fairways and greens were slightly above average for a public course. Not what I expected for a place that held some major tournaments. The cart paths were horrendous. It was like driving on the broken streets of Detroit. Sorry about that, Detroit. There was standing water in several places along the cart path and I lost count of how many cracked surfaces I drove over. At times, I almost felt it was better to drive off the cart path in order to preserve the golf cart's suspension.
I feel a semi-public course should have absolutely manicured fairways and greens. Maybe I'm spoiled by other courses. I'm not sure.
This place asks a good amount of money for membership. Each person must decide if it's really worth all that money. If it's just for bragging rights or to impress your friends, then this could be the place for you.
The clubhouse and pro shop makes up for some of this. The deck adjacent to the restaurant has excellent views of both courses. It looks like a fun place to hang out, especially in the summer. The restrooms and locker room seem a bit on the small side. They're nice, but maybe there's a Members Only area I don't know about. Hopefully, it's roomier. Inside and out, the facility is pleasing to the eye. I give higher marks for all of it.
I'm not a golf course specialist and I don't know everything about the different kinds of grass out there. I'm a frequent golfer that takes advantage of the many courses we have in the Portland metro area. That's what this is all about. My impression of a golf course counts, along with everyone else who does the same as I do. We at least want value for our money.
When I played the north course, I got a few glimpses of the south course along the back nine. It looked impressive from a distance. Lots of trees and several challenging bunkers. I was eager to play it. When I finally did, I kept hoping there would be another hole that would really impress me. Something unique or of championship quality. Nope.
I'm not saying the course is in disrepair. The cart paths, YES. But, the course itself is in decent shape. Just not the impressive place I was hoping it would be. The fairways were average and the greens were much the same. In some places, the second cut of grass or the rough was pretty mushy. I expected this from lesser courses.
I played when it was overcast and damp. I think it rained the day before. Maybe that had something to do with it. I honestly hope that was the case because I went here hoping to find a jewel of a course. I'd even be willing to pay the steeper prices if it lived up to it. I'll listen to other people who play it in the months to come.
Now that I've played both courses, I'm not in a hurry to go back. Especially, for the spring and summer rates they'll be asking. I'll wait for more feedback from others before I play this course again.
Hopefully, by that time, it will be a different story.
Not bad for this time of year, a little sun to dry things out would be most welcome.
Pretty mushy fairways, but that's not unexpected for mid-winter. Greens and tees in surprisingly good shape. Lotsa mud on the cart path from the maintenance equipment, it would be nice if the grounds crew tried to clean it up. Always friendly staff, thanks for drinking water on the course.
Valentines Day
For winter time play, not bad. Fairways vary playable...Geese mess in fairways not good. Greens average.
reen and fairways in great shape
the reserve is one of the best courses in the portland area. the greens were in great shape and so were the fairways.
however the bunkers were terrible, it had been dry for the last 5 days and yet the sand was so compacted it was like concrete and most of the bunkers had clumps of grass in them which had grown over weeks not a few days. a golf course that once regually held a champions tour major should get its act together and the ground staff should be raking bunkers so they are playable
Fast greens and long holes
The course is in great shape when all the other courses in the Hillsboro area are soggy and beat up. Par 5s were long, but not ridiculous. The greens are the best in the area by far. All around, great course!
Winter Golf
It was a cold, dark, rainy morning ..... Really it was ....
But the Reserve is a great winter course to play, the fairways were well drained and the greens in good condition. Even with the carts on path only the round went quickly with very little mud on the boot's ! Good winter course.
The Reserve South Course
Played the blues (6805, 73.0/139) in 25-30 mph winds, which was way too much golf course for me on this particular day (Maybe any day).
The layout is pretty. Most fairways have 5-6 fairway bunkers that look intimidating, but most of the fairways are not as tight as they appear from the tee. Most of the greens have 3-5 traps, and these are not ordinary traps, they are much deeper than the average golfer plays and many times, you may have to go OVER ANOTHER green side trap to go @ the hole depending on where the pin is. Today, I was in 6 green side traps, and a couple of times had 6'+ bunker faces to go over to a tight pin.
There are more than enough lateral and yellow hazards to keep you honest, and many of the holes encourage you to turn the ball to get it in the proper position.
The greens were firm and fast, a bad combination in high winds. The fairways were lush to very lush. The rough was mowed down and was lush, I could play most irons from 5 up out OK. The tees were very well maintained, and the massive traps were in excellent condition.
I would estimate that on a normal day and normal golf course, I would have broken 85 the way I played today. Here, in these winds, I had a 98. I look forward to coming back and playing in less windy conditions and seeing if the high 80's are attainable for me.
Beautiful clubhouse, the cart gal was present several times, the tee times were right on time, everything about this place was ++.
Best Course in the area
Really a fun golf course, challneging with greens in great shape. Plenty of water, sand and of course Oregon trees. The course is difficult but fair. You need to be precise on some holes becasue if you are in the yawning traps you may never be heard from again! Usually I play it when they are running specials. You will never be bored on this course Actually there are two eighteens, both really fun to play,
Good summer course,
but in the winter, forget it....wet, soft, ball plugs....friendly staff, great clubhouse.....south course is the tougher and more fun of the two.
Beautiful layout, beautiful facilities, doesn't drain real well.
Fanatastic course layout, holes are very interesting and fun to play. Combination of very long difficult holes, and short 4's that you can score on if yo play them smart. Facilities are very upscale and beautiful as expected from a high end course. Good practice facility. Only negatives were due to time year and weather, course was very wet even though it hadn't rained in a couple of days, lots of surface water in the fairways and some places you didn't even want to go. Sandtraps hadn't been touched in weeks, maybe months. Grass growing in lots of them and in most the sand had been washed away from the high sides from weeks of rain.
Fantastic course. Top 5 in the Northwest
Even though we played on December 1st after 3 days of rain the course played very well staying on the short grass, when I didn't I payed. The only fault was the condition of the 142 traps on the North Course but like I said it was December 1st.
