Challenging course
You have to place your shots well to score well. Greens are hard to read and fast. A couple of holes you don't want to go long on. Once you play here you will want to play again
Not so hot
I played on the hottest day so far in 2017 -- air temperature 102 degrees. Humid, too. I saw the cart lady on the fifth hole but didn't see her the rest of the round. No water on the course, either. I seriously considered bailing on the back nine because it was so hot and I was getting dizzy. Fortunately, I carry a "Frogg Towel" chilling wrap, which kept me cool enough to finish. When I asked at the pro shop where the cart lady went, they said oh yeah, she went home about 1:30. What? on the hottest afternoon of the year?
Kvetching about the lack of services aside, the course could use some TLC. There a tree branches down on the course, some of the greens look as if they have grown fur coats, bald patches on the fairway, etc. This is a nicely designed, old school track, but maintenance is lacking.
I coulldn't recommend this course. It is reasonably priced, but there are so many nicer courses open to the public in the greater Portland area.
A Test of Skills
I was pleasantly surprised after my first shot. Not that it was a good hit or anything...(it wasn't), but the conditions of the course was incredible. It was firm everywhere. In the fairways and in the rough.
I told my partner that I needed a challenge to test my game after playing the same courses (Stone Creek and OGA) over and over. He suggested Forest Hills.
It was a challenge for sure. I had my good holes and bad. What excited me most was the condition of the course overall and how well it played. No bad lies either in the fairway, rough, bunkers (they were raked and HAD sand) or the greens.
Good job crew !!
I'll be back.
Course in great condition on a perfect day
Started at noon on Friday. Course wasn't busy until the second nine. Still, we finished in under 4 hours. Course in great shape. Lots of challenging holes and ways to get in trouble. If you stay in the short grass and below the hole on the sloping greens your day goes much easier. If walking, reserve some energy for finishing two holes!
Remote, but solid
The course is well laid out with good variety of hills, trees, and sand traps. It's a drive to get to, but that benefitted us because the course wasn't crowded at all and pace of play was perfect. The greens were fast and rolled true, although some of the reads were tough. I'll be coming back!
how to steal money
befiore booking, they let me know it was being aerated, so I checked in and played the front nine, made the turn and waited for partner at the 10th tee, employee came out and said no you can only play the front nine twice. that was bad enough, but they allowed a fivesome on the course in front of us. when I found out I called in to ask if they allowed fivesme and they said usually not. but did nothing. it was a very long back nine.*I would never have booked to play the front nine twice............
Nice Course
Nice course, but got a little surprised by the cost of the golf cart rental. $32.00!!!
Good thing we good deal on the 18 rounds of golf for $15.00 each. Cart was more than the rounds!
great course
great course cant wait to go back!
the carts
I really enjoyed the golf course, the only down fall was the prices of the cart, I just don't get why you have to charge that much.. $16 pre-seat why, way to much, even nicer course don't charge that much..
nice course, but needs upgrades
This course is slightly out of the beaten path, so probably doesn't get that much traffic. The fairways and greens are well watered and groomed. However, the cart paths are incomplete and sometimes are gravel or non-existent. Also, there is very little potable water available on the course, so bring your own. The last three holes make up for an otherwise relatively uninteresting course, with the exception of #11. Not a bad course, but I won't go out of my way to play it again.
Peaceful
Pleasant experience enjoyed the course
Great Summer Golf Value
Beautiful weather. Fast and firm. Great course conditioning. Greens looked great, but were running at inconsistent speeds. Golfnow $15 walking.
Course condition
Course was in really good shape
review
Keith in Pro shop was great, very accommodating.
Hi Libby,
Thanks for coming out. Keith is a great asset to the operation. We are glad you enjoyed yourself!
Good golf on a budget.
I've always found Forest Hills to be well worth the time to play, it's my first course to play after a lay off and typically it's playable later into the year due to good drainage and smart course maintenance. While there are other course around that are more expensive to play I don't find they're proportionally better maintained, simply put for the price you get a better bang for your buck. If I have a grumble and it's a small nit picking one, they installed blue tee's a few years back to lengthen the course for longer hitters, no bad idea as it's quite a short course, it's the quality of the back tee's aren't quite what those further forward are.
Thank you for the comment. We apologize if the cart paths were not kept up to your standards. We have since touched up our paths with edging and adding more gravel.
Additionally, we do have water on the course on holes 6,8, & 3/16. I hope you give us another shot. We look forward to serving you again and thanks for coming out!
