Nice course and great golf now deal
Great condition of the West course and nice pace of play. We didn't have to wait on any hole or had anyone behind us unlike other times.
Good short course, want more of a challenge try the East course
Makeable pars and a few birdies brings me back . Fun time on a nice day. Will be back.
Course condition
Highly happy with the condition of the West course. After all the bad weather we had, the course was in a great condition. Greens still a little firm but surprisingly fast! Can't wait until summer is here for a while and play another round or 5!!
Fun course
Course is a bit short, but that fits us old folks.
will return
Glendoveer west wet!!!!
It was extremely wet on fairway and the greens were soft... need trimming the fairways a bit more.
Great for working on short game/off the tee
I've played both the East and West sides of this course. The West side is great if you want to work on accuracy off the tee (most holes are less than 350 yards) and your wedge game. The East side is great for developing your mid irons and putting! Would recommend to anyone playing in winter weather conditions in the Portland area.
Overpriced except with a Hot Now Deal
So I play a wide variety of golf course and have played some really beautiful courses. I have been fortunate to work in the golf industry and have access to great courses. The west course at Glendoveer is a great course for beginners and a great course to get your confidences up or for older golfer who have lost some distance. The front 9 is straight forward and the easier of the 2 nines. There are some solid holes on the back. 12-16 are the best holes on the course. With 16 being a pain (I hate a draw and it calls for a fade). I like 18 as finishing hole even though its a par 3.
My biggest issue is with the price. I hate when I have to play here on a Saturday morning in the summer. Its extremely overpriced especially compared to the east course or other courses in the area. They really need to lower the price. Ive played Gresham golf course, which has a better layout and is usually in great shape, and have been amazed of the price compare to Glendoveer. The only reason I gave this 5 stars for the Value For the Money is because I played with a hot now deal. It beat hitting balls.
Awesome golf course. Great staff.
The staff was very helpful and courtious. I live in N.C. and whenever I return to Portland I will definitely play at glendoveer again..
Want to lower your handicap?
If you want to lower your handicap, Glendoveer-West has some of the most spacious/forgiving fairways. If you can manage to miss them (which I seemed to have no trouble doing), then you will have to deal with plenty of trees. But the good news is that they are spaced enough so that you can have fun attempting to shoot through.
The greens (and fairways) are well manicured and manageable though somewhat challenging at times.
The course is a very family/novice friendly and even if your golf game turns out to be less than you desired, the scenery is well worth it.
Enough sand to keep you annoyed and not a water hazards or two to keep you on your toes.
We were (un)lucky enough to get caught in a major rain downpour while just halfway through our round and had a very interesting time attempting to putt through ponds which had formed on the greens, not to mention spraying ourselves while attempting to hit off the fairway. Fortunately the rain passed after just a few holes, the skies cleared, and the sun began to peek through.
All in all a very pleasant, memorable day for my wife and I and our two adult sons.
Consider this as a third, or fourth option
Course plays true, but short. If you'd typically play from the blues you'll want to play the blacks here. And watch out for random people walking on the course who lost while trying to refind the hiking path that runs around the entire track.
Glendoveer
The course is beautiful and the staff is super friendly. We always take out of town golfers here as the course is moderate and views are great.
You get what you pay
Course is pretty much what you would expect for the price. Simple layout, short holes and decent conditions. Worth it if you get a good deal and you are a very advanced golfer.
Felt Cheated
made my tee time through GolfNow Hot Deals thinking that I had found a good deal for $39 for 18 holes but it turns out that the price at the club house was also $39 for a weekend rate. This won't be the first time this has happen through GolfNow, a Hot Deal should be a cheaper rate than what the normal price is. Instead I end up paying GolfNow $2.47 service fee for a false advertisement.
Good old Glendoveer West
If you are a single and want to get out and play this is the place to go. I don't know if I have ever had to wait to play here, certainly never more than 30 minutes. It's a nice walk. This time I joined another single and we went out on the back 9 first. That's fine with me, it has the most challenging hills and better to get them out of the way while you're still fresh. I've been playing this course as long as I've been in Portland, some 14 years. If you can get off the tee decently you're hitting 7 iron or less on your second. Probably scored my lowest rounds in OR here. It's the red-headed stepson to the East course but, as I said, you can always get on it.
There are two 18 hole courses at this facility
Two of us played yesterday, the weather was great and there was no one in front of us through the whole 18 holes so didn't have to wait and played in under 4 hours
Pricey
I've played this course many times. It has become our last min rd. But this course is over priced. It's shame they don't lower the price. Shows how money hungry they are. Oh well
Partner picked
Was put with an 11 yr old who was a pretty good player but whose dad wanted him to take extra strokes in preparation for a golf tourny. After doing the 9 holes when they finished, I was behind a group of 4 who were very slow
I played a few days before you. Just a twosome but we played in 3 hours and maybe 10 minutes. Probably the fastest 18 I've ever played and we weren't even rushing.
