McNary Golf Club

About
McNary Golf Club is located on the site that once was the homestead of Charles McNary (1874-1944), prominent Oregon Congressman, lawyer, and vice-presidential running mate of Wendell Willkie. Since he was an ardent golfer, it is appropriate that this course was named in his honor at its opening in 1962. The course was developed by Jim Sill who wanted to build an enjoyable course for the average golfer. Initially, the McNary home was used as the clubhouse. Today, modern clubhouse facilities, including the well known McNary Restaurant & Lounge, overlook the course. All the necessary amenities are available. The golf course features lush fairways, spacious greens, and hazards that provide a challenge for all golfers. Claggett Creek comes into play on holes 1, 9, 10, and 18. The challenge and beauty of the course has also been augmented with several small lakes with fountains.

Well maintained
Course was in great shape. Challenging pin positions and varied hole layouts keep you challenged but is fair test for all skill levels. Most all holes are lined with very nice houses but are not too encroaching on the course. Some holes have long distance between green to tee so a cart is recommended. I would play again.
Course condition was great!
Course condition was great, course was busy (as it would be on a warm sunny day in Oregon). Greens rolled great! Good job by all employees.
Greens are awesome....
The rest of the course not too bad.... very wet, lots of plugged balls. Larry is great in the pro shop!
Overpriced for what you don’t get
This course is not that nice, too wet for play and Basically has everything shut Down because of Covid.
Smooth but tough greens!
Solid course in good shape. Fairly flat course to walk, but long walk between holes.
Water in play most holes and course plays much longer than yardage! Pins were tucked on front/back/sides of greens, making chips and putts brutal (as they all rolled off if not great shots).
Poor job of wearing masks in pro shop. One of the employees behind couner kept takiing mask off. Another player walked right up to counter w/ no mask, and no enforcement by staff.
Frosty
Frost delay always sucks.. not the course's fault.
Groups were stacked up and they got us out the best they could but I wish a marshall was out today just to keep the peace up.
Overall it's a fun course with an affordable rate.
Would recommend! especially if the weather is nice.
Near Salem
This is a course that we would play repeatedly if it was less expensive. It's a good course for regular play at $50 or less if a cart is included.
Great Course! Great Staff!
Really enjoyed playing this course. It was in great shape considering the recent rain. Greens were well maintained and challenging but true. The staff and marshal were polite and friendly. Golf carts were in great condition. My only negative was absence of hot dogs and snacks. It was a Sunday with plenty of patrons. I would of preferred something to grab at the turn. But the course was and is definitely worth the drive from McMinnville.
Thank you, enjoyed it!
Thank you to the staff at McNary for honoring us on Veteran's Day! From past service Veteran's to those of us who are still serving in the military - thank you very much, greatly appreciated and hope you know that!
The two in the pro shop were quick to get me checked in, CART was clean and easy to access.
Practice green and chipping area were in great shape. The course was in great shape as well, from tee to green and everything in between. The course was wet, but that is to be expected when it rained pretty much all day and night before. That being said, there were no drainage issues anywhere, just wet ground.
Pace of play was average that day, to be expected when they were as busy as they were - and no doubt with honoring military members, there were a few groups of people who probably don't play golf as much as others, along with some age differences. Still completed the round in an acceptable time frame.
To all the staff - 5/5, 10/10, 100/100. THANK YOU again for what you did and keep up the great work!
Another enjoyable round at McNary
Big thanks to the McNary staff for another enjoyable round at your facility!
Larry in the pro shop was quick to check me in and conscious of the remaining time in the day to get the round in. Got me onto the course, gave a few tips to ensure the best possibility of being able to complete the round - and success.
The course was in good shape, especially for the time of year. Pace of play was good, especially considering how busy they were. Acceptable amount of waiting without being annoying or counter productive to time management.
5/5, 10/10, 100/100. Great job to all and thank you!
Fun course but bad conditions
The course layout was good. However...
This was my first time playing here and was a bit disappointed with the conditions of the course. The rough was long which was nice and challenging but the fairways were a bit overgrown as well and pretty sloppy in areas. We also happened to catch it on a day after they had just plugged the greens. Wish I would have known this before making the hour drive. I would try the course again in better conditions but only for a good deal.
Well kept course
The course is well maintained, if anyone books with cart expect to pay more due to pro shop worker charging an additional $10. The person tried to make an excuse that they don't normally do early tee times with any third party company. I advise not to play in the morning due to this inconvenience.
Tight fairways and good greens
Takes in a neighborhood to a whole new level, demands accuracy but a fun round with varying hole layouts
New course
Wanted to trry a new course and this was worth the drive.
That's the least we can do to honor all Veterans on Veterans Day! Thank you for your comments and hope to see you back again soon!
