South Shore Golf Course

Juneteenth Holiday wasn't a good day to play, Everybody was free to play golf. OK, a holiday I get it. A five hour round wasn't a surprise. The tee boxes were rock hard. Fairways were good and greens were good, however, really fast on this hot day without recent rain in NYC.

After the 11th hole I ran out of water. All I could think about was water...water...water. I turned to my friend Gene to ash him if he had any extra. But it wasn't Gene. It was Ben Hogan. Arnold Palmer and Byron Nelson walked out of the wood onto the tee box. They told me not to worry. That I won't need water where they play. I was thirsty, hot, and sweaty.

I woke up at the clubhouse. Cold towels bathe my face and forehead. I was able to sip some cold water and ice chips. When my delirium wore off, I recommend --- demanded --- that full water coolers be placed throughout the track. A lot of senior citizens play here. We should be playing golf safely and hydrated, not adding heat strokes to our score card.

Played there this pasted Saturday. Had a 12:03 T-time, didn’t tee off until 12:30. When we got to the 2nd hole there was 1 foursome teeing off and 2-foursomes waiting to T off. By the 3rd hole the foursome behind us was hitting up on us to move faster. While we were waiting for the foursome in front of us to finish putting. After 4 1/2 hours we left after the 14th hole.

Terrible course management. It’s all about booking and billing.

Very rude staff and players. Not worth the high expense.

Great experience golfing at south shore. Booked a hot deal played front 9 with 3 cool guys but broke free on the back 9 cause I was low on time. Got 18 in in 3 hours and the course was in great shape. Super friendly staff as well. Would def come back.

Course is getting better since nycgolf took over. Some tee boxes still need work

I Prepaid for my round on the GOLFNOW app. Upon arrival to the course, my 3 playing partners went to check in. Gave the clubhouse employee the name and tee time. The course's cpu only had my tee time with a convenience fee paid, not the full round. They were all charged full price and had to pay, as GOLFNOW had not displayed, to the course, that the round was Prepaid.

Please fix communication issues with the courses

Great job crew at Sputh Shore! The course is in fantastic shape, way better than I can almost remember . Keep up the great work!

I’m not one to write reviews, so this is rare and it must be worth my time. This public track has taken a beating on pace of play and price - deservingly so on some accounts but the course conditions are EXCELLENT right now. I’ve been play this course for 20 years and the tee boxes, fairways and greens are superb! Haven’t seen them this good in a long time. It’s worth it to give them another shot.

That was designed by Devereux Emmet. Course is my favorite of the NyC public’s. Love the layout and the old school Emmet greens. Conditions can be spotty but that’s the case with all the NYC courses.

The tee boxes are being reworked in areas and other ones are in rough shape. The bunkers are also in pretty rough shape. Greens were in pretty good condition. Decent all around

Don’t waste your money go to New Jersey

I thought they closed the landfill in 2001, but given the current conditions @ South Poor, it's obvious they (just) moved it here. TBH, I was expecting to see goats and cattle grazing on this pasture with a few of cart paths.

There is fairway-length grass on the greens, unlike the area where you are supposed to tee off (you can't call them tee boxes). The sand delivery guy must have printed out the wrong MapQuest because all the sand is on the greens and tee boxes, unlike in the bunkers.

It was $67 for a weekday AM round, which is criminal. Seriously, it's a joke. The new ownership group should be arrested, and Agent Hotchner should be called in.

Aside from that, the course is mint.

Greens in way better shape than LaTourett! Even the damaged ones on back are filling in quicker than expected. Still playing Temporary tee boxes on some holes not sure when the grand re-opening will be? Was given break on cart Fees for my Son and I to ride which is much appreciated since course is not “ fullly” open yet. Could also use some maintenance around downed tree limbs and Itchy ball removals. Fairways cut and mowed and most greens look great and rolling nicely. Please keep up the good work going on here and I’ll be spending more time and money on this course. Even though it’s same management company now in charge of all 3 public courses on island, they are NOT run the same.

The bones of this course are definitely there. Issue is it’s just in Pretty bad condition. Some greens are a disaster and the same goes for some tee boxes. But the course layout is pretty solid and challenging. A little TLC and this place could really be something
