South Shore Golf Course

I usually don’t care enough to write a review about poor experiences especially at this laughingstock of a dump of a golf course. Shame on me for expecting any employees to be there before the first tee time because this is about the 5th time in a row this has happened to me there I guess there’s a reason why it’s the only golf course you can book the day before on a weekend because it’s such utter dog crap…Where do I begin with the greens covered in lumps of dirt from Wasp nests and covered in sand in Mid August not to mention not one tee box that is actually intact like teeing off in Baseball sandlot this course is a joke including everyone affiliated with it never again

The course is in terrible condition, the course for the longest time was in rough shape, but back when this golf season started it seemed like they finally improved the course overall. They put in new tee boxes, fixed up the greens and the rough/fairway was maintained. Fast forward to this last outing I had here it seems like they just don’t care and forgot it. All the tee boxes are now shot, few of them just being dirt and mud. The rough was not cut to an even length, some lengths were up to my shins. The greens were terrible, more than half were sandy and cracked. The other half were infested with hornets that dug into the ground creating holes and dirt hills all over the ground. Not to mention they charged you full price for this. Won’t be playing here again until things change. Better off paying the toll and paying the same if not a little more for a great course in NJ

Course is kept in horrendous conditions. Atleast 3-4 holes on the back 9 are not able to be finished due to hornet infestations, greens that have not been touched in weeks, or bunkers (if you can call them that) that probably have the same sand since before covid. They have a lot of nerve to charge the price they charge for a course that gets ignored, i'm not sure where the money goes. Overall bad experience unless you enjoy paying $80 for 18 holes and having to forfeit a minimum of 3 holes or risk being stung by giant hornets or putting on the surface of mars. 0/10 , Do better or charge less

Huge divots on fairway and tee box not repaired. Greens had ball marks everywhere, not fixed, also multiple greens were covered in sand and insect mounds. Very difficult to put or read those greens. Round took 5 hours as no rangers were helping with the pace of play.

The course has lacks proper care. Many greens are in terrible condition. Tee boxes are non-existent. The course management has deteriorated in the past several years. It's a shame, since it's a nice tight course. It's going to take a while for me to go back there.

Course was sluggish due to the recent rain which was ok. That was expected. The starter was very pleasant. The greens on the back 9 were bad. Many were mostly sand. The problem was after the 7th hole there was a threesome in 2 carts. They would stop and all walk to each other's ball and watch each other hit the ball 50 feet. I don't mind bad play I'm no professional either but waiting 15 minutes or more for each shot was ridiculous. I hit I go to the next shot. They took forever on the greens and cleaned their clubs at the base of each green. . I was alone. They did not ask me to join or see if I wanted to play through. I had to skip a hole and go past them. Then there were 2 foursomes backed up because of them I saw later. Definitely need a Ranger for cases like that. Just being selfish to everyone behind them. Need to have the slow play monitored on a Saturday for sure.

I played here last month and the course was in much better shape than today. They have a legit hornet and wasp problem on the back nine. There were a handful of greens that were nothing but sand with spotty patches of grass. That said, the staff was friendly and the pace of play wasn't too bad after the 7th hole.

SS is in mainly very nice shape besides 2 sanded greens. They have done a great job bringing the course back to nice conditions . Only negative was a 5:30;round in 95° heat. Thank God they have a cart girl!!!

Been playing here for 25 years. Earlier this year the tee boxes were flawless. Plenty of them now are chewed up and missing grass. Nice to see new carts. Earlier this year there were no cicada killing wasps on holes12 thru 14. Yesterday the 12th hole fairway and green were covered with cicada killing wasps. Could barely putt on the 12th green. Even the greens on 13 & 14 are swarmed with these wasps. Always loved the layout here best of the 3 public course on Staten Island. They’re booking tee times every 9 minutes which is ridiculous when you have a twosome in front of us who could barely hit the ball. Taking 3-4 shots to get it to 100 yards from the tee box. At a minimum should be12 minutes between tee times.

A lot of the greens are covered in large bees. Made it difficult to focus on putting. Some greens are still damaged in certain areas.
