Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club
About
Hickory Valley Golf Club boasts two 18-hole, regulation-length courses, named the Ambassador and the Presidential. The Ambassador Course is the shorter of the two at 6,450 yards but it still offers a fair test. The classic layout is routed through towering hardwoods forests that stretch to over 70 feet high. The tall hickory trees loom over the fairways. The small greens are sloped back to front, presenting a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are a few tricky doglegs to contend with. The bunkering is minimal but the abundant trees will be enough to keep you on your toes. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

1st Time golfers.
We had 3 rookies and a son in law who thinks he”s in the PGA. Had a great day. Only downfall was the 102 degree temperature. Definitely would recommend.

Nice course but maybe not attracting the best clientele
We were there on a bad day. They had an event which ran late forcing us to double up on their other course. Cary path only also do play was slow. We were backed up and the group behind us was very rude and kept hitting up on us. Once, twice, three times. Third time ball landed within 10 feet. Making rude comments, playing music loud enough we could hear it. Might not ever go back, but may have just been a bad day
A very, very soggy course
My low overall review is not to be critical of the course...EXCEPT, mother nature had provided many rainy days, and this course is NOT one to play under those circumstances. The course was barely playable because of standing water on the fairways. Greens were very good...SO, just avoid this low lying course after heavy rains.
Nice course, friendly staff
Conditions are good, layout is fun and fair. Staff exceptionally nice.
Disappointed
Bunkers were wet and not taken care of. Standing water in front of greens that should have been raked and allowed to dry. No ranger driving around to help with pace of play.
Great course, good people
It rained for nearly a month and the course was still in pretty good shape. Course was packed and the pace of play was pretty good considering it was cart path only and no one had been able to golf in weeks. Coming back to play the ambassador
Complaint
The condition of the course was terrible. It was literally a swamp. When you walked on the fairways, you sank in the mud and water. The rough were really boggy and uncut. I lost count of all the balls i lost. Honestly, the course shouldn't have been open. I left feeling very frustrated and disappointed.
Not really well kept
The course conditions were awful. It does not seem to have good drainage. There were areas that you couldn’t even hit from because of how wet it was which we haven’t had rain in 4 days. The day before we were at a local course that was completely dry. Also the grass is way too high even on the fairways at times. There were grass trimmings on the fairways making it impossible to find your ball that you hit on the fairway. What I did really enjoy was the greens. They were kept up nicely. And there was moments of it being very pretty. The price was good through golf now but I would not pay full price for it. It’s just so hard to say we would recommend it when the course conditions made it difficult to enjoy.
Made the right choice
Played the Ambassador course on a holiday weekend and was very pleased with the decision to play Hickory Valley.. Arrived early and was able to warm up at the driving range. Couldnt use the driver bit aside from that, the range was great for loosening up with irons. Greens were in great shapre. Rough was heavy and challenging. Fairways were good but several still held a decent amount of water from rain the previous day which was surprising. I would have given 5 stars had it not been for some swampiness and not getting much bounce on fairway shots Overall a great value and plan to return.
Absolutely a great time
I brought my 6 year old daughter with me to play and from the guys at the front desk to the ranger everyone was super accommodating to allow her to play and they made sure to spread out the groups in front and behind us due to a 6 year olds skill set great place to play and for the money well worth it
Overall Nice course
Presidential Side: enjoyed the layout with mix of challenging holes. Conditions: good grass, decent greens, but bunkers were mostly unplayable with standing water or spotty “caked” dryness, which is likely due to major storm. As someone who plays everywhere and at some very nice courses, I will come back to play this course.
