About
Hickory Valley Golf Club boasts two 18-hole, regulation-length courses, named the Ambassador and the Presidential. The Ambassador Course is the shorter of the two at 6,450 yards but it still offers a fair test. The classic layout is routed through towering hardwoods forests that stretch to over 70 feet high. The tall hickory trees loom over the fairways. The small greens are sloped back to front, presenting a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are a few tricky doglegs to contend with. The bunkering is minimal but the abundant trees will be enough to keep you on your toes. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Great layout, challenging but fair.
Very good experience. Prepaid my greens fee on Golf Now app. Check in was easy. Very friendly. Played as a twosome with son and got around in 3:30. Course layout was varied and interesting and course was in great shape. Lack of rain here has made it challenging I assume. Would recommend. Coming back to play Ambassador course.

Pace of Play Takes Away from a Great Course
I thoroughly enjoy the Presidential course. It poses unique shots, nice layouts, and great integration into the landscape. However, pace of play recently has really detracted from the experience. After having sat in many tee boxes for upwards of 8-10 minutes, my playing partner and I decided to drive to the club house, grab a snack, and hopefully be free to tee off when we returned. 10 minutes later, we return, and the group in front is only just hitting out of the fairway. Not completely their fault as there were two other groups jammed up in front of them, this really takes away from enjoying a round out. You get in a groove, you’re hitting nice shots, all to get iced in the tee box like a kicker in the 4th quarter. Tee times could use some spacing as well as ensuring walkers are not paired with riders, or at least spaced out accordingly.

Greens Need a Leaf Blowing
Or bring your own personal battery-operated leaf blower? Seriously, most greens were covered with twigs and other tree-generated debris making it tough to make a putt. Fairways had lots of bare spots for this time of year.There were rows of hay clumps from lawn clippings. .I like the course and I think the staff are wonderful, but conditions were under-whelming yesterday.

Great local option
Played in early May. I felt course conditions were very good. Its a little more expensive, but worth it if you're looking for a nicer course in the area.

Good course
Overall this was a very nice course with some difficult areas. Will definitely play again. The back 9 are very tight together so errant shots end up in other fairways. The tee boxes were good and the greens were very well taken care of. The greens also were fairly easy as far as elevation and tracks being relatively straight.

Terrible greens, worse pace of play
The staff was friendly, we teed of on time. All downhill from there.
The greens were in terrible shape, if I’m paying in season rates the course should reflect. There were still aeration holes and greens played about half of normal speed.
At the turn we were at nearly 3 hours! (2:45 actual). By the 11th whole it became clear there were 2 groups completely stopping play. Had to skip 2 holes to jump ahead and at least managed to finish our before sundown. There should have been a Marshall noticing no groups had finished in over an hour on a packed day.

Decent for the dollar
The good: The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The Ambassador layout is fairly challenging with plenty of water and trees but is easy to manage. We were paired with another twosome and was expecting slow play as we had multiple groups ahead of us but was pleasantly surprised that past hole 2 there was no wait and had no one waiting on us.
The bad: the course needs some TLC. Some tee boxes are so hard you need a chisel to get a tee into the ground. The fairways were in pretty good shape, and the greens were tough to judge as they'd recently been aerated and sanded. I had to bring a towel to wipe my ball and putter on the green. A few greens needed more than sand to repair but they have improved since last year.
The great: the breakfast sandwiches you can pick up in the morning. Trust me.
