Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club

About
Hickory Valley Golf Club boasts two 18-hole, regulation-length courses, named the Ambassador and the Presidential. The Ambassador Course is the shorter of the two at 6,450 yards but it still offers a fair test. The classic layout is routed through towering hardwoods forests that stretch to over 70 feet high. The tall hickory trees loom over the fairways. The small greens are sloped back to front, presenting a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are a few tricky doglegs to contend with. The bunkering is minimal but the abundant trees will be enough to keep you on your toes. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Soaking wet
Course was nice but there were puddles everywhere. Cart path only which is fine with me but my feet were soaked like three holes into the round. Would like to play again when it’s not a swimming pool.

Great layout
Really liked the layout. Many doglegs alternating right and left. Course will be really nice once it greens up. Greens were small and rolled well off-season. Once the trees get leaves the challenge will increase. Looking forward to playing again in season.

Poor communication
Did not notify me of course closure. Clubhouse attendant is clueless and/or did not want to help me.

Presidential Course
Had a very enjoyable round even if I did not score as well as I normally do on this course. Temps were in the mid 60's even though it was the middle of February. The course was crowded but the pace of play was excellent. They really do a great job of maintaining the course and the staff is consistently friendly It was well worth the one-hour drive to play.

Poor management
This course is poorly managed. We waited on 1st tee while foursome in front walked off distances, played out of order etc until finally I went back to starter to ask if they had ranger. They sent someone to talk to them. Improved for a few holes then went track to snails pace. Quit playing after 3hrs to get through 10 holes. Talked to guy at front desk who acknowledged they are poorly run but basically said nothing the could do. Left my name and number for a response from his management and never got a response. Oh and he said basically if you purchased on Golfnow they don’t care cause they are making nothing off hot deals. I didn’t purchase the rounds off Golfnow but you should know how they feel about Golfnow customers.
