Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club

About
Hickory Valley Golf Club boasts two 18-hole, regulation-length courses, named the Ambassador and the Presidential. The Ambassador Course is the shorter of the two at 6,450 yards but it still offers a fair test. The classic layout is routed through towering hardwoods forests that stretch to over 70 feet high. The tall hickory trees loom over the fairways. The small greens are sloped back to front, presenting a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are a few tricky doglegs to contend with. The bunkering is minimal but the abundant trees will be enough to keep you on your toes. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Needs some management
Do not book on thusdays around 10 am. I played solo today and while checking in i was told a few groups just went out ahead of me, ok not a problem. I was not told it was a senior league. Got to the second hole and the guy cutting the grass laughed and said good luck today theses guys are very slow. So the staff knows about this. They should send people off the back or have a ranger out there moving these guys along. All day guys were waiting for the group ahead to get off the green over 300 yards away knowing they can barley reach 150. It turned into 5 1/2 hour round. No water on the course. Didnt see the drink cart until the 17th hole. Just a poor experience overall.

Not bad for circumstances
Presidential course: I came from Philadelphia where the day prior we didn't have any rain or wind. Upon checking the weather nothing showed in the area it was due to be sunny and warm. The day prior to our play the courses area got killed by hard rain and wind. The lead to some drainage issues on the course. We had a 10 o'clock tee time and due to other people's delay they let us go early but the put a group right behind us. So we didn't have that 12-15min interval.
I can tell by the course and it's up keep on a better drier day it would be a good time.
The downfall is the parking lot is junk. A simple fix to grade the stone being you have the equipment on site. The club house looks looks terrible and in fact is.

Ambassador Course
Greens in great shape. Fairways good as well. Rough was deep in some areas.

Very nice course
Tee boxes need to be maintained and improved.
Nice, challenging design. Staff was wonderful. Grill offered good menu and a number of beverages.
Will return again with my group of 24 golfers.

Great experience
Arrived late for a booked deal-time tee and a league was already on the course. No problem with check-in and was advised to start with back 9. Finished a full round in a little over 3 hours. Birdied one hole and parred 3 holes. Course was in excellent condition. Highly recommended!!!

Hickory Valley a Hidden Gem
Played the Presidential course and it was a beauty of a course, well manicured and in great condition. Some tight holes and will test even the lowest of handicaps. Will definitely be back. Huge bang for your buck!

Hickory Valley a Hidden Gem!
Let’s start with we played the presidential course. We were matched with a single, no big deal at all, great guy. The course is beautiful and in great shape. The pace of play was great as we never had to wait for a shot. The cart girl was pleasant and around a few times. For the money it was a great course a true hidden gem! Will definitely be back!

Great challenging course
What a gem. Great course in the middle of nowhere. Great fairwAys, got think on some holes, can’t just grip & rip. Gotta think ball placement. Greens great shape and roll nicely. Nice pro shop and snack area.

Great day
From the time we arrived, until we pulled out of the parking lot, everything was great. The staff was so nice. The starter took our bags and loaded them on the cart for us. We were offered complimentary coffee, purchased great breakfast sandwiches, and the cart girl was friendly and came around at least four times. It’s over an hour ride but when they treat you good it makes it worth the trip.

Exceeded Expects
We lucked out and got out before a men’s league and played in 3 1/2 hrs. Fairways and greens in very good condition, was surprised after several rain days before. The tee boxes were rough with fungus happening on many of the holes. Played Presidential side which has more character then Ambassador side. Will go again soon.

Overall a good course
I’ve played this course a few times now. The course was in good shape given it had rained hard the day before. A few of the holes were a bit marshy but it’s not like that regularly. I would say it’s worth the money. I just wish the tee boxes were a little flatter.
