Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club
About
Hickory Valley Golf Club boasts two 18-hole, regulation-length courses, named the Ambassador and the Presidential. The Ambassador Course is the shorter of the two at 6,450 yards but it still offers a fair test. The classic layout is routed through towering hardwoods forests that stretch to over 70 feet high. The tall hickory trees loom over the fairways. The small greens are sloped back to front, presenting a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are a few tricky doglegs to contend with. The bunkering is minimal but the abundant trees will be enough to keep you on your toes. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Great condition
The overall condition of the course was great. Bunkers were nicely kept and soft sand. Fairways were good, and the first cuts werent too harsh.
If you make a decent shot off the tee, you were rewarded, if not you were penalized. Lots of trees, and other miscellaneous hazards (water, ravines, collection areas, etc).
I had a great time playing, and would recommend this course to anyone.
This course is tough but fun
We enjoyed playing this course, but it was a little difficult for us this early in the season. Many trees along the fairways. The greens were a little slower then expected.
Good Golf Course
This is a very nice golf course. Very playable for the majority of the public. And therein lies the problem with this course. As a senior citizen and not hitting the ball as far as I once did, there are some very difficult holes on this course in terms of yardage. Par four's in excess of 390 yards are unreachable in two for me. That takes the fun out of the game. Looking at it from the perspective of a younger golfer I would give this course an A+, but from my point of view I would have to go with a B-. Combined with other factors such as it's a little over an hour ride for me I would have to say I probably won't play this one again.
Drew
Nice mix of fun and challenging holes. The white tees are a good match for all but the lowest handicaps. The tips are a bear especially on the back (10,11,13, 16,17). One of the best value courses in the area for quality versus cost.
Not what I expected
I had heard great things about the presidential. I had played its sister course the ambassador and didn't care for it as it was more of a narrow shot maker course. Presidential says it is more open a little longer and much newer. Had to try it. Got a great deal on golf now and headed out. The greeting was less than welcoming. Everyone had a big "hello" but didn't go out of their way. Pro shop was kind of dumpy and the attendant seemed miserable. On the counter was a big sign sayin "cart path only! No warnings given!" I understand as we had 4" of rain in the past week but explain it. Don't put a rude sign at the cash register. The layout was unremarkable. A lot of parallel holes laid out next to each other. Mounds seem to grow out of the ground for no apparent reason other than to say "I'm a modern course". The greens were remarkably fast for the amount of rain we had and they were true. Again the amount of un necessary undulation in the greens screamed of desperation to be noticed. The back nine (after the joke of a tenth hole)was just as tight if not tighter than the sister course and the mounding and undulating was not as severe. All in all, I wouldn't go back soon. Maybe more suited for some players who like to lay up at dog legs and squeeze shots through narrow shoots while dodging mounds and bunkers placed in the middle of the fairway. But for me, I like more subtle challenges that are just as difficult without being so "In Your Face"
Local treasure!
Hickory Valley CG is a local golfing treasure located about 30 ,iles from center city Philadelphia. Easy to get to and once there you are rolling farm land. The Presidential is a wnderful course that is challenging to all levels of amature golfers. The par-threes are beautiful holes with large greens. Many of the par-fours and fives are dog-legs offering a risk/reward opportunity. The greens are very challenging asthe subtle undulations are hard to read so be prepared to three-putt oand move on.
The course has a rage suited for warming-up your iron game. There is a snack style concession stand at the club house and one at the 10th tee box (nine does not return the the clubhouse). And for us older people there are sufficient of rest rooms prefectly located to keep our minds on the game!
A really great golfing experience!
Early spring round
This course is nicely laid out. I have only played about 8 or 10 different courses in the area, but hickory valley is among the best. The conditions were as good as could be expected this early after the winter we had. During the summer and well into fall, the course is beautiful and well groomed. The course is challenging as streams provide natural water hazards on quite a few holes, but smart play can reward you with a respectable score.
Good course
This course was well kept. Lots of tough pin aplacements on this day.
Small greens, but challenging.
THERE ARE 2 COURSES THERE, AND BOTH HAVE BEEN MAINTAINED VERY WELL. WE WILL GO BACK AGAIN.
The Greens on Saturday were lightening fast which I love.
I have played Hickory Ambassador numerous times. The last time I played was in the summer and the gnats were everywhere. My buddy had them sticking on his neck and in his face. The rainy summer took its toll on the course. However, like usual, Hickory Valley has a wonderful staff and a great greens keeper. The greens were slick and fast. I shot a 50 on the front nine. The back nine was different. I made the adjustments, no more 3 putts and shot a 37 on the back. The greens were running so true, I started making all my putts. I really love playing this course and they got the course back and in terrific shape. Also, not many leaves on greens or fairways. Thanks for an enjoyable round. I will be back. Signed, Lefty.
Golf this time of year
You wouldn't think you could play golf in November, but you can. and you can play at hickory valley, the course was well maintained, didn't have to look for the golf ball in the leaves, they had the course cleaned up of leaves, the greens were really nice and the fairways were cut and the whole course was in great shape, the staff , they were great to, I played the ambassador course it suits my game, if you really good you can play the presidential course, either way play hickory valley
you`ll be glad you did
Great deal
Course in good shape! Greens challenging, need good placement off tee to avoid trees.
Course in great shape, greens were excellent
We played on a Saturday morning at 8 am for $35 with a cart. The maintenance crew took the the time to blow the fall leaves off of the tees, fairways, and greens. The greens were quick but in great shape. As the first group out on a November morning, we finished quickly and I was home in less than 4 hours. I was really impressed with the conditions of the course especially for November.
Above average course.
Nice course with challenging greens. Amenities are average. Landscape average . Bargain at Golf Now rate.
36 HOLES TO CHALLENGE YOU!!!!
Played the Ambassador side well maintained, greens very tricky if above the hole. The rough high in spots. An arrant shot you have hard time finding your ball. Nice pro shop. Played a Sunday afternoon moved very well most of the time.
This course has great features
this course has a few challenging holes but overall fun course to play. I would recommend it to others.
Front nine is open, the back nine is tree-lined.
Our foursome played after the fairways were aerated for nine of the holes. It was cart path only for those holes, however, the pro shop discounted the green fees by 26%. Cart path only was the only reason for the slow play.
A Must Play for all golfers!
We were scheduled for to play the Presidential Course, but due to aeration of the greens got shifted over to the Ambassador course. The course was a little tight on the front nine, but opened up on the back. Great course, great conditions, great greens! You really need to play these two courses!
Greens and tees in good shape
Tee boxes and greens were in excellent shape. Pace of play was an issue on the back nine, could have used a ranger to speed things up.
