Highlands
Nice course. Has 5 different tee boxes to choose from.
Not worth the high price
Used to be a great course but is going down hill. The bunkers need a lot more sand and need to be raked. They are almost never raked and it is like hitting off concrete. Greens seem to have 3 different grasses growing on them. Their new flag sticks are ridiculously short. About 5 feet tall. Makes them very hard to see from slopes and distances. They also have new checkered flags which are hard to tell the difference ffrom front and back pin placements.
Need new carts
The cours was in great shape. It presents a variety of a challenging holes and 5 sets of tee boxes. The only issues is they need new carts really bad! Those carts are from the 60's. Old, no power, and just old
A great place to play, greens need work.
This was my 2nd time playing at Dauphin, 1st time this year. Was a little disapointed, in condition of greens. The greens were very spotty on the course. Also the front nine was soaking wet from watering, and our tee time was 1:45. Not sure I understand that one. However this course has great character and I hope to play again. Please give an honest feedback as I did not read any that stated the condition of greens in recent feedbacks.
Nice course but need course ranger
Course was well maintained except for some sand traps that were not maintained. Course play was fine on the front nine, terrible on the back. We were on pace for a 5 hour plus round due to a foursome holding up everyone. No ranger to be found. Course is still one of the best public courses around, but I will think twice about the slow rounds.
Nice Course
Course in god shape. Good value for the layout. Just need to drive the ball into the right spot.
Fun Course
Course in great condition. Although crowded, the pace of play was excellent for a holiday. Wide fairways and large multi tiered greens which required precise iron shots, or 3 putts were a distinct possibility. An enjoyable day on the links.
My home course
Recently taken over by Billy Casper golf mgmt company. Conditions are great and getting better weekly
One of my favorite courses
The condition of the course was excellent except for the sand traps. It rained the day before, but there was plenty of time to rake them. Hard as a rock, most of them. I played from the senior tees and the length was fair from my distance off the tee.Greens in excellent shape and fast, which I like.
Greens need work, but everthing else is top notch
Greens need work, but everthing else is top notch. I like that there is a starter, and it is a very picturesque course
Nice course but slow play
Teed off 30 minutes after scheduled tee time. Staff was apologetic but still cut some folks without tee times out in front of us. When I schedule a tee time, I do it for a reason. It may be a long time before I go back here.
Definitely a must play
Love this course. One if my favorites in the area. Good movement on the greens and great fairways. Always well kept, greens were slow due to top dressing but usually have good speed. Try to play it at least twice a month. I play the blue tees, from the tips it is a monster.
Better greens would help
Certainly willing to give them the benefit of the doubt given the time of year and the harsh winter but the greens were rough. It is one of the better layouts in the area. I really like some of the tee shots, definitely some quality holes.
Great and fun course.
Rolling hill's. Great condition and well maintained. Challenging holes and must place your shots.
Great course with a good price
Played on a saturday morning, no rush, friendly employees, course was in good condition except a few greens. Make sure to get some information on a few holes or you will be penalized.
What happened to the greens?
I normally do not review anything, but I feel I must warn you. The practice green is pristine as all the greens usually are. You get to the first hole and wander what happened....then the feeling continues through the rest of your round. I'm not talking about the aerification either but the massive bare spots and residual sand everywhere!!! The first par 5 on the back 9 where the green is tucked into the trees barely has grass on it. I bragged the place up to a friend who came up from Philly to play it with me, and I felt kind of embarrassed. What a shame for a place that typically is the best public course value in the Harrisburg area. I paid $39 on golf now for the round it should have been $19!! Having said that the rest of the course was in good shape. Bunkers could have used some work...but I shouldn't have been in there in the first place. Service is always great and the staff is always very cordial and professional. I will go back when the greens heal!
Very nice course, great value
I have played this course a couple of times and it is a nice course and one worth playing. With the exception of a couple of green buried in the woods, the course was in very nice shape. It has a nice layout which meanders throughout the course (as opposed to some cookie cutter courses where all holes run parallel to each other). There are some nice elevation changes and a really good variety of holes to keep things interesting. Definitely check this one out.
Course was in great shape
Course was in great shape...greens a little softer and slower than I've seen them normally...there's a couple greens on the back 9 that have some considerable damage...sanded, but didn't really effect play as the pins were set away from the damaged areas...
Great course for all golfers
Dauphin Highlands is a great course for all skill levels. Off the tee, the course is not intimidating at all. You will not lose many balls on your first shot. From there, a handful of greens are a bit "tucked in," but overall it's open. In fact, the only thing that kept me from labeling this course as "Easy" is the fact that I'm a hacker, so no course is easy to me. Anyone lower than a 12 handicap will most likely tear this course up.
The course is in really good shape. It is definitely worth playing, especially if you can get a deal on here. The standard rates might get a bit steep for what you're getting, but if you are reading this review on GolfNow, chances are you've already learned never to pay the full rate. I'd say this course is worth $45 to play, but can be had for less.
Challenges you on almost every hole.
Great course can't wait to come back. Had to use every club in the bag. Length was important on some holes and position was important on others. Two greens were in bad shape. They had informed us at the first tee. On one the hole was placed in the middle of the damaged area and on the other the damaged area was not in play. I thought a couple of the par threes were a bit extreme for us 'white tee' players. I thought 4.5 hours was reasonable for a Sunday.
