Rare Ross muni is a gem
Few enough people have regular access to a Donald Ross course as members of a private club. Even fewer still are fortunate enough to live near a course of his that is open to the public and relatively inexpensive ($62 and below) to play.
Thanks to stewardship by both the town and renovation/restoration specialist Ron Prichard, Jeffersonville Golf Club is one of the best municipal courses in the northeast. It’s a great example of how well Ross’ design philosophy holds up today for the golfing masses. Fairways are relatively wide, ball-eating hazards are few (but important when they do appear) and greens are approachable but reward good decision-making. Holes like 3 (drivable par 4), 13 (majestic down-then-up two-shotter) and 15 (long par 3 with the steepest green on the course) are a test for anyone and help make Jeffersonville a course anyone would be happy to have around the corner.
Nice Golf course, Starter needs customer training
We played this course after spending several days in the Lancaster area so wanted something as we headed back to the Philly area. This was out first time playing this course and we found it really nice and tidy with the greens being a good pace and a good challenge but the grass around some bunkers was very high but this was probably due to not being able to cut during the rain on the previous days. The started was friendly as we went out but coming back to the clubhouse, we went the wrong way in front of the clubhouse only to be given some condescending comment by the starter which was really not called for. Apart from this, really had a good time.
Late winter gem
This was the 2nd time playing it for me,sneaking in some late winter golf Drove 2 hours to play and well worth it. Tremendous layout. Great greens and shot values. A little wet, but that was expected. I’ll definitely be back in the summer...looks like it plays firm and fast
Great Fun!!
Wow!! This is an old school, Donald Ross course. Tees are close to greens, so it is very walkable. It's all about the green complexes and knowing where to hit the greens or what side to miss on. You could be just a few yards off the green and still couldn't get it close to the pin. Every hole was interesting. Conditions were very good, including greens, tees and fairways. Only $37 for a senior to ride. I can't wait to go back.
Jeffersonville
A group of golf friends played this course and had a great day. Pace of play was great with no one in front of us. Greens were in great shape. Course was in good shape.
nice public course
This is a Donald Ross course. Not one of his best but it has classic Ross trademarks throughout. This visit was to play in a Ryder Cup format event so don't let the 70 bucks scare you. The greens were very good and fairways were well maintained. Some of the holes you need to see at least once to know how to play them. There is risk reward shots but in spots the risk isn't worth the potential penalty. I once played the course with hickory sticks and old replica golf balls which was fun so that tells you it is playable for all.
Great Course - Have to go back
Playing in the fall is always a challenge. The course was in good condition. Fairways was well maintained and even with the leaves errant shots were not hard to find.
Best Value Course in PA
Jeffersonville is always in good, but not great condition. That is partially due to the amount of play this course gets. The fairways are always in good shape and the greens typically have a consistent roll, but are a little on the slower side. This is one of my favorite courses in the area, including private clubs and is the best value in PA.
Overall Good
Overall it was a good course. I went in expecting a lot based on the course rating. It was very well maintained except for a couple of tee boxes that were uneven. The Marshall asked us to pick up our pace once because nobody was in front of us but he was friendly about it and admitted that we started 15-20 minutes after the next group before us Two things I did not like is that hole 9 tees off from the clubhouse, so you either stop into the clubhouse before 9 or after 10. Also did not like hole 18 as a finishing hole. It is a good hole but in my opinion is not a good way to finish a course. Par 5 with two direction changes. I think other courses in the area are just as good at a much lower price for an intermediate level golfer.
Good Course with Character
How's this for a late review? I actually played this course in June 2015 but am just now writing my review. I played this course after an eight year layoff from golf. The course is a Donald Ross design in the middle of the Philly suburbs. We went out on a Saturday morning and had no issues with pace of play. The course is challenging enough for most golfers-there are enough trees and water hazards to keep you honest, but it's not so tough that most golfers can't enjoy it. Condition was not great but acceptable enough, given the price.
Great muni course
Play here several times a year. It's a Donald Ross course and they are trying to make it better. Greens are tough and hard to hold. Definitely don't want to be long on most of them. Recommend playing early for good pace of play. Food is very good.
Challenging course for good value
Donald Ross design evident on every hole. Bunkers are not plentiful but well placed to challenge all golfers. Very friendly staff who keep the pace moving. A real gem and good value.
