Middletown Country Club
About
Middletown Country Club has been one of Bucks County's major golfing destinations for more than a century. Originally designed as a nine-hole golf course in 1913 by Scottish architect Alexander Findlay, the second nine was added three years later. In the many years since opening, the golf course has undergone renovations by both George Fazio and Stephen Kay. This tough course is proof that a layout doesn't have to be 7,500-plus yards to be a challenge. Although the Middletown C.C. golf course plays to a seemingly modest yardage of 6,217 from the back tees, the rolling terrain provided by its location in the scenic Neshaminy Valley makes the course seem much longer. The small greens have plenty of undulations and you'll also be faced with a variety of uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies. There are also towering trees looming above the fairways and water comes into play throughout the golf course as well.

Good bones, bad shape
I've been playing Middletown since 2001. I've seen it's ups and downs - I have to say it's currently down.
The course was in decent shape overall, better than when I played in 2020.
However, the weaknesses are glaring - particularly the renovated greens of 11 and 13. The renovations appear to have been a complete failure as the "greens" are sand and it doesn't seem like there is a prayer that'll change. Even if the renovations were successful and the "greens" actually had grass growing on them, I'm personally not a fan of the design changes that were made. Both 11 and 13 had severe greens but were playable in my opinion and were in decent shape for the nearly 20 years I had been playing the course. The money could've been better spent elsewhere in my opinion.
12 was changed to a Par 5? Easily the shortest Par 5 I've ever played in my life. It's a par 4. I guess I understand the logic because the tee shot is pretty difficult and if you don't hit a good shot it plays like a par 4 and a half, but changing it to a par 5 is a stretch.
Also, pace of play can be brutal on a crowded day. There are a couple of bottlenecks on the course that really screw up pace of play. I've walked off this course multiple times due to slow play.
The good - the course design is fun. Elevation changes, never a flat lie, fun short par 4's, a few really difficult par 4's, trees keep you honest, slopey greens. It really does play longer than the score card indicates and if you don't hit it straight it will humble you. If the course was better maintained it would be an old school gem. Course has been around forever and has a great history. Hope it gets to that point.
Overall, in my opinion Middletown unfortunately has been losing ground to other courses in the area in terms of conditions, amenities, etc. The price to quality ratio for me just doesn't make sense compared to the other choices. When it comes down to it, I don't have a ton of free time and I work hard for my money - there are better options in the area where my time and money are better spent. Might seem harsh and I'm sympathetic to the difficulties of running a golf course, but I think it's a fair review. And yes, I've had my butt kicked by Middletown many times - I've also gotten a few pretty good punches in too : )

Place needs work
This course is really going down hill. It is in bad shape from the tee boxes to the fairways being burnt out, to the rough being too thick and a few of the greens having almost no grass. To top it off I was served a cold hot dog at the snack stand. Quickly has become one of the worse kept courses around.
We see you rated the course 3-stars and this is a very disappointing review. We are interested in learning what we can do to improve before your next round. Feel free to comment on this review or reach out to the team in the golf shop. We always appreciate the feedback. Thank you for playing Middletown Country Club, and we hope to see you again soon.
Great challenge
I play this course weekly and laugh at some of the reviews. First of all they have two greens that aren't pretty but roll fine not several. Fairways are great and tees are fine. It's the beginning of August and the course is in overall great shape. Usually the complainers are the ones who got their butts handed to them because they can't handle the rolling terrain of the course.
HAHA!! Thank you for the kind words and honest feedback! We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars and for playing Middletown Country Club.
Course Unkept
Very very poor greens. Several without grass in multiple areas. Several tee boxes were unkept as well. Disappointing for what course be a nice course at affordable price. 3 groups ahead of our two-some were very slow and there seemed to be zero monitoring of pace of play.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We understand your frustration with the construction projects underway. Please bear with us as we work diligently to make improvements. We hope you'll give us another try in the future. Thanks for choosing Middletown Country Club.

Great day, but….
Everything was great except for several greens being pretty beat. We finished up at about 11:30 and most disappointing, the Restaurant/ Bar was not yet open.
Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. We will make note of your thoughts on the greens and we hope to see you back at Middletown Country Club.

Want a challenge
This course will challenge your game. Hills and rolling fairways will always give a test. Small but fast moving greens. The people who complain just can't handle the challenge, Great shape, two greens are a work in progress but roll fine. Staff is great and very knowledgeable. A true golfer will love this place

Under 4 hours
We finished this round in under 4 hours. We never had to wait to tee off and never had groups behind us pushing us to go faster. The course was in excellent condition. Just bring bug spray. There are a lot of nats around the tee box and greens.
Thank you for taking the time to review us! Your feedback is valuable, and we look forward to delivering you excellent service again soon. Middletown Country Club thanks you!

They’ve let this place go
This is an old style golf course which is nice, but unfortunately they have let the rough grow so long that if you hit it in the rough you will not only not be able to get out of the rough you’ll probably lose your ball. Several of the greens were also in poor shape as where the bunkers..The pace of play was terrible, we left after completing 14 holes in four hours. The one bright spot is everybody that works at the golf course is very nice
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. Our team is out there constantly working to improve the fairways and greens. We thank you for the kind words about our staff's friendliness. No motivation to be good
Have never played here in under 5 hours. Starter was incompetent- we checked in, he gave us a snotty answer, and when we headed to the tee box for our time, he hollered at us and told us we had to check in with him first- we couldn’t just go up to the tee- as if we hadn’t just done that 5 minutes before.
Most of the course is in good shape, however 3 greens are literally unplayable with no grass, but they kept them open anyway. Most of the tee boxes are nothing but a sandbox- terrible. Doesn’t look like anyone collects the garbage either.
Upside- $40 with a cart is reasonable for this course, but expect good with bad.
Hello. Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and to best control pace allowing everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. Thank you for playing Middletown Country Club. We hope to see you again soon.
