Layout seems decent but the tee is full of crabgrass, greens are burned out, fairway is not bad, rough is too deep, and ground around the green is spotty. Shame, if the y improve the conditions, it would be nice course.

Dont let the below reviews fool you. This is a tough challenging course and most likely it beat up the complainers. Greens recently aerified and healed running smooth, they were aerating and seeding tees as we played, weeds have been removed and fairways as good as it gets. Rough is high and tough but that makes up for the short course. Crew is working hard to repair the wrath of Mother nature.

The course is a fun and challenging place to play however it is in terrible condition right now. Tee boxes are in poor condition and the rough looks like it hasn't been mowed in a couple of weeks. Very disappointing because we have played there before and the conditions were great.

I've played Middletowns course about 7 times this year. In the beginning of the year it was well maintained and still pretty nice but the last couple times I've played the course has gone downhill a bit. After a about a month of playing elsewhere I played yesterday and had the worst experience of the year so far. The tee boxes are in terrible condition and the "greens" are not good either. I understand renovation projects during the year but its getting out of hand. The 13th hole they moved the flag 70 yards short of the green an placed it in the fairway before the water which a) changes the way the hole is played and b) they didn't cut the grass for the "temporary green" so its just trying to putt on the fairway. I would've been more understanding of this if I was made aware of this prior to starting the round. A simple "hey hole 13 is under construction so the hole is in the fairway before the water" would've been enough. I dont know how many more times I'll be playing this course this year. I will probably play one or two more times this year then I'll have to wait until next year when hopefully the renovations are completed. This is my home course which is why I'm willing to give it a couple more times.

I've been playing this course for years. This year alone I've played it probably ten times. When PA courses opened finally it wasn't in bad shape but seems to have gotten worse as the summer has gone on.

I can't blame it on weather since there are other local courses that aren't in this shape. Maybe there isn't enough money coming in due to COVID and the course can't be kept in shape. I can't spend full price to play this course again this season.

Maybe a general warning about which tee boxes and greens are being worked on and an explanation would have made it better.

Played this course every week since June. At first the course was fine, then As the Summer progressed Terrible tee boxes, terrible greens, pace of play is brutally slow. The rough is ridiculously long grass making it impossibly to find a ball that strays off the fairway. 13th hole green is like a baseball dirt field. A makeshift green 70 yards shorter was placed two weeks prior To today. This last time was a breaking point and will not return. Started at 3:55pm and only finished 15 holes until it was too dark to play. I am willing to try this course next year when and if they fix up the course, but unlikely. I use to play leagues at this course years ago...this place has changed quite a bit. Save yourself from a lot of frustration and don’t play golf here.

The greens were very fast, but there were parts of the greens that were in bad shape and two of the holes were restricted because part of the green had a part where you couldn’t even hit off. One hole (I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this) had a whole on the FAIRWAY. They actually dug out a whole about 8 inches wide and put a flag stick in there because one of the holes was under repair. If you were to play there (my friend noticed this) you would’ve hit it to the wrong green and ruined the hole because the green (fairway) is under a big hill. If he didn’t tell me about it, I would’ve hit the ball 100 yards over the “green”. And when is asked the person inside about having 3 separate carts, she gave me a hard time because we were in a group of 3. She refused to give them to us, so I had to buy a cart separate for $8. When I made the reservation on their website, I even wrote “3 separate carts please”. Granted, we didn’t NEED the extra cart, but it was awkward because one of us would have to ride separately while the other two had to sit together. With Corona and all, I thought she’d be glad to let us get separate carts, but she told us that she knew we don’t care about corona and you guys are fine if you sit together because we were buddies. All because we were under 20. Overall, it was an alright experience. Might play there again someday after all their repairs are done with.

The course is in bad shape. Temporary tee boxes and greens, grass and greens in bad shape. The course has gone downhill since last year. A shame

I've been coming to Middletown for years, and certainly do not expect Augusta when playing. With that being said, I have never stepped foot on a course that is as poorly maintained as Middletown currently is. Tee boxes are unrecognizable, covered in weeds and sand and grass no where to be found. Greens have aeration marks and hundreds of unfixed divot marks. The fairways look like they were cut with a mower with a broken blade, as there are some spots of grass over 6 inches high in the center of fairways. I've never seen a course with multiple fairways roped off due due to the burrowing wasps. Some greens have sod laid that never took, is currently dried out looking like driving range mats, and has 2-3 inch gaps between pieces- this means you can land a ball on the green and be sitting between 2 pieces of sod that are both sitting about an inch higher than your ball. It's literally impossible to fairly score a round here.

It's a shame because this course does have some history and can be challenging when in nice condition, but it is beyond playable at this point.

Price is insanely high for a course with a few really fraudulent greens and poorly maintained fairways. Byrne's is a far better value for the money.

I don't know what happened during the quarantine but this course is in awful shape. To charge $60 at this dump is ridiculous. John. F Byrnes is in better shape than this course. Fell off big time. Was in much better condition last year.

I've been playing Middletown for 20+ years. The time has come and gone for the benefit of the doubt. I understand golf course economics are tough and believe Middletown is doing the best they can. Enough is enough though, the course is in terrible condition. You can't expect to play a fair round of golf given the current shape of the course. Course has great bones and great history. - a gem of a design that forces you to play golf, not just grip it and rip it. The conditions have always been questionable, but playable. In my opinion, the conditions have deteriorated significantly. I sincerely hope management is able to make improvements - i love Middletown and it will always have a special place in my heart, but my money is better spent elsewhere for now.
