Linfield National Golf Club
About
Linfield National Golf Club is a public course that is one of the area's best values. Formerly known as Sycamore Ridge, the course changed ownership in addition to its name. Since those two major changes, the course boasts better conditions and a renovated clubhouse. The layout has a classic links design that incorporates traditional elements including water, trees, and a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The up-and-down of the golf course is one of the most challenging elements of the layout. The course is tight with a few adjacent fairways but this configuration also allows for a bit of extra room for recovery shots. Some of the holes at Linfield National Golf Club are quite narrow but it is still possible to hit the green in regulation. Though the course is only 6,164 yards, the rolling terrain will make it seem much longer.

Everything so great.
Play this course 4 to 5 times a year though it is an hour away and many courses closer to home. Why? We'll the course conditions are impeccable and always in great shape. Greens run smooth, fairways excellent and rough kept at reasonable height. Terrific variance from hole to hole challenging but fair. Sand traps even maintained well. That's part of what draws our group to Linfield but just as important is how staff treats it's clients. Pro shop person who checks you in, Nick I believe is hisname, is such a gentleman. Always goes above and beyond to accommodate your request . So many Pro shop personnel make you feel like they are doing you a favor letting you play their course but not at Linfield. Thank you sir for your service
Good Conditoions-but MUCH shorter than the card
Many fairways share the rough between them so a lot of groups playing and crossing fairways to their balls. Not a lot of trees to block the shots from entering the adjacent fairways either. Conditions were good considering the heat we are currently experiencing. My issue with this course is the length being nowhere near the advertised length on the scorecard. Scorecard blue tees say 6365 when it's actually about 5800. Scorecard white tees say 6014 but they are only about 5350. Gold 5479 but are only 4850. I questioned these distances when I was hitting drives which "appeared" to be far longer than I normally hit. Went on Google Earth and measured all tee boxes to come up with the distances above. Not direct from the tee to the hole, but as it should be, following the shape of the holes. In fact, even if you measured from the very back of the back tees to the very back of each green, the scorecard distances are STILL several hundred yards longer than actual. It's been this way for MANY years without correction. Many friends I know that have played the course have also said the same. I would only recommend this course to a novice who really doesn't care about the above and just wants to whack the ball around.
Good value for the money!
Course was in great condition and fun to play. They had some tough pin placements! Had a great front 9. Then a twosome jumped in front of us on the back and held everyone up the rest of the day. They were playing from the blues, which the one guy shouldn’t have, and playing multiple shots and just taking too much time. Unfortunately there were no rangers on the course to speed them up. Aside from that it was a beautiful day for golf and we’ll definitely go back!
Go Elsewhere
Linfield has a rather funky layout on many of the holes. It is very tight causing many shots to wander onto adjacent holes.. This tends to cause a lot of lost balls and subsequent wait time.
Additionally, many of the players are obviously not regular golfers and lack conventional golf etiquette.
I found the course condition to be marginal at best however greens were in nice shape.
Our round took 5 hours. There was no ranger on the course. One 4-some had three groups backed up. There are other courses in the immediate area offering much better conditions and even better prices.

Poor communication and layout
Showed of for a frost delay. Not unusual in the fall, but they refused to give any anticipated time for the delay, which was very frustrating. The course was also very short. Only 2-3 driver holes.

Came back
Been a long time since I played there. Course had alot of damp spots all over and aerated greens. I like it better many years ago. A bit pricey for what it is now.

Not for me
I played here for the first time in a two-some on a Monday. I won’t be back. To be clear, all of the staff I met were great. They were friendly and efficient. And the rate was reasonable for 18 holes. My problem was with the layout of the course and to a lesser extent the course conditions. This course is as tight and narrow a golf course as I’ve played. Some of the fairways are 10-15 yards wide. The course is also very hilly. I like elevation changes as much as the next person, but coupled with the overall narrowness, it makes it difficult to keep the ball in play. The course was in ok condition, but the fairways were surprisingly bare. The course was busy, so obviously folks like it. I’m just not one of those folks.

Pleasantly surprised
Greens softest in the area, looks like they water them regularly. Bunkers can use some work as many are either lakes or mud bowls. Some fairways have more bare spots than grass to play off. Pace was great, with our foursome finishing under four hours. Overall fun time and looking forward to returning.

Nice Course
Course is in great shape considering the weather we've had. Staff is friendly. I usually play very early morning so the pace is probably quicker than later. The parking lot is usually full by the time I get leave. I highly recommend this course.
Thank you for your review, Hcauffman. We will pass along your positive experience to our team at Linfield National Golf Club. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Lazy Sunday afternoon round
1st time playing took my daughter with me very friendly staff. The course was in pretty good shape considering very little rain, greens were super fast some of the holes were quirky but all in all a very good round would probably play again
