Course is nice, poor clubhouse staff
I play the course quite a bit only because of Golfnow and it being so close. Otherwise I'd probably not go back, dealing with the clubhouse staff is always a pain and puts me in a horrible mood right before heading out.
The course is in great condition.
The course is very well kept/maintained, particularly for the amount of people who play there.
weather mulligan pays off big
My first experience here was not great due to the weather. I'm so glad I gave this course another try. The fairways are in excellent condition and the greens are in wonderful shape. The course isn't long but has plenty of challenges. These include well placed bunkers, trees and contoured greens. This is a fun place to golf and the Caddy Shack restaurant is a great way to fuel up after your round. Great food and better atmosphere.
Pristine little course
Course was in great condition, I went and played it because of that exact word of mouth. Trees line fairways, and the elevated greens make up for the lack of distance (if anyone is trying to gauge this, I played blues and hit the ball pretty far.) There are a few holes you can go at it, if you're hitting them where you want to, but this course does not have any long challenging holes. Bunkers looked nice but wasn't in one all day. Reccondmend to play.
Great Day
Armitage is a great course, moderate difficulty. The average golfer can have a great time, and the better golfer, will have an even better time. Flow of play always seems to move along and stay consistent.
Challenging terrain
I always find Armatage to be the most challenging course in the local area because of the large mature tree lines and sloping fairways that intimidate me on a day when my 1 wood isn't so straight. It's probably the most accessible course for most players on the West Shore, making it a place to meet some very good competition.
Tight But Fun
Fairways are narrow with quite a bit of vertical slope and sometimes sideways slope. Hitting into the woods is penal. Greens are pleasant with plenty of bunkering. I think a cart is a necessity to maintain pace of play. I didn't see anyone hoofing it.
Fairly Easy Course. Short Holes, Narrow Fairway
Course was in great condition. Fairways are narrow but the holes are very very short. If your wedge game is on then you will score well. This course was a lot easier then I thought but it was still a fun round!
Great Quality Course but Too Short.
The course was in amazing condition, the greens rolled true and the fairways were watered and smooth. My only complaint would be that the course is just very very short. I hit the ball an average distance off of the tee and still had wedge in my hands for my approach shot on at least 13 holes. Fairways are pretty narrow but you could almost leave yourself 8 iron on every hole if you hit three wood off of the tee. I got a great value off of golf now and im overall satisfied with this course .
Great coarse for the money
Great coarse for the money. Typically I think the round would be a little quicker but it was cart path only the day we golfed and not sure why. It had not rained in over a day. That was the only draw back for us. It's a fairly short course but fairways are tight with trees so you need to be accurate off the tees. Greens read true and I sank a 50ft putt for birdie.
short and tight
While the course is not overly long, it is in great shape. It does not require a long shot, but it does require a precise shot. It is a very fun course, and i would definitely recommend it to all of my friends.
The Fast Five-some
Had a great time at Armitage. My two-some was paired up with two singles from Golfnow. Nice foursome, but the five-some that played behind us were obviously regulars who played a form of "speed golf" together. We played at a good pace (4:00 round of 18 holes, even letting a single play through), but the five-some pushed us as much as they could. It was a bit annoying, frankly, and the course staff person monitoring course pace tried to misinform us that we took the turn at a 3 hour pace. Very annoying. We teed off at 1:10PM and finished at 5:10PM. Easy math - 4 hours is a good pace for foursome, but I personally would have preferred 4:15 not knowing the course. That wasn't a option with the "fast five-some" pushing. They actually only waited on one tee box that I noted, but they were, unfortunately, rude enough to complain to the course pace keeper, who then tried to tell us we played at a slow pace.
Nice course. Great food. It was overall a good experience, but could have been better.
short but challenging
course played very well. public course is very well maintained.
Armitage Golf Club
Great track, well maintained. Short but challenging.
Mature tree lines keep you honest
The best course conditions I have seen in the area with the fairways perfect and the ruff trimmed, as long as your drive is good you can hit the approach shots easily. Figure the greens a little slow on pace and you will be on line all day. Good variety and senic. May be a little short for the long hitters.
Course is Cramped...
The layout of each hole is, in itself, decent. You will definitely have to think about the best way to approach each hole, despite the lack of yardage. However, the course is extremely cramped with only a few yards between each fairway. As a one of the cheaper public tracks in the area, you will frequently find golfers playing out of the wrong fairway or hitting towards you when you aren't even on the same hole. Greens were in OK shape, but were bumpy and slow from aeration. Staff in Pro Shop seemed to not care very much about us when we checked in, basically just wanted to get our cash and get us back outside. None of the outside staff acknowledged us or greeted us, even though we walked past 3 people before even reaching the first tee. Will probably end up playing this course again when other courses are booked in the area, but definitely not at the top of my list.
Interesting course; great value
Armitage is short, but definitely a shot maker's course. Trees line most of the fairways, so you must be hitting the ball on target. If you are driving the ball fairly straight, very good scores can be had. Greens are usually very good, although they had been recently punched and dressed for my latest round. The layout includes many doglegs, but most still give the option of driver to a short wedge. Risk / reward. The staff is very friendly, and greens fees are some of the least expensive in the area.
Slow play
If you want to get stuck behind beginner golfers with no etiquette and a ranger that watches you tee off and doesn't care what the pace of play is, then this place is for you. Otherwise, course was in good condition and I would play there again if they would watch more closely.
armitage
Course was in good shape for this time of year. Pace as rather slow!!!!! Need ranger or player assistance to encourage faster play. 5 hour round for a weekday round! Yikes!! Overall it was a good experience.
Short course, but demanding.
Mature golf course with tree lined fairways requires accurate tee shot, or you punch it out of the trees. Fun course to work on your long irons.
