Very poor condition again
Bad... score cards do not have proper yardage. 6th hole is short par 4, score card says 410 yr par 5.
Score cards have no yardage or ratings for gold tees. None of the staff knew why ????
Score cards say nothing about the weird 18th hole.
Tee boxes and fairways in very poor condition again.
Directions to next hole very poor.
3rd year in a row I have been here and 3rd year in a row the course was in poor condition.
Average
Sunset used to be one of my favorite course but it has become much less since they removed most of the trees on the front 9, apparently due to the airport's request. It's still a decent course.
The back nine was pretty muddy with lots of uneven grass and/or deep rutted holes. I understand Sunset does get a lot of deer travelling through the course at night and perhaps with the mud, they created the poor conditions. It was nearly impossible to not be hitting out of a hole.
Definitely the course was beat up by the winter and hasn't recovered yet.
Good shape for March
Greens rolled nice, the course was under staffed and the range was not open. I guess the range does not open until April. The course was a little wet and cart path only on the back. The course was dry enough that cart path only seemed a little over cautious.
Condition
Wet weather decimated this course. Tremendous layout & mountaintop views, BUT, tees and greens in horrible condition. Several fairways and areas of the rough were barren & in need of grass. Hopefully the fall weather will allow more overseeding & growth.
Great Golfing Experience
Kudos to the staff at Sunset GC for getting the course back to reasonable conditions after almost a foot of rain over the previous week. Although there were still some "swampy" areas, the fairways and greens were in nice condition. The teen times are spread out sufficiently so you're not on top of the group in front and not getting pushed from behind.
Course in pretty good condition considering wet weather
Nice course . Greens little slow due to rain. Fair views in good condition. Would like to play when coursexdries out
Good views
Pro shop staff are extremely rude. Course has nice layout with interesting views.
Definitely worth my time
Played with a friend of mine. Although we booked through Golf Now they gave us a better rate when we checked in. Tee boxes were occasionally uneven, but greens were nice and quick. Staff was very friendly. Played in just over 4 hours on a Friday morning. Good food and decent beer selection in the grill. I will definitely be back.
Total lack of course management.
If you like blind shots, occasional yardage markers, and overgrown patches to lose balls in, Sunset is for you. We have played there for over 30 years, and will not be going back. The recent scalping of virtually all trees on the front nine has left a course which could have, and should have been saved. Unfortunately, the lack of attention to detail and proper markings has created a level of frustration which has caused our foursome to unanimously vote not to return. The yardage markers are mostly non-existent, the rough is ridiculously high, and the number of blind shots on the front nine is unacceptable. Hole number 4 is a nightmare. No way to Know where to hit the ball off the tee. Oh yes, there is a flag planted in the fairway( the fairway you cannot see from the tee), and an acre or so of two foot high weeds just to the right of it. If you go left you are down a hill into the 6th fairway. Of course you know nothing of this from the tee.
Realizing that topography dictates some course idiosyncrasies, it is still unforgivable for management to not at least attempt to make play more enjoyable by proper markings and distances.
Dad & Son
My first time at Sunset. It’s a very picturesque course with two uniquely different 9s. I will most definitely play there again (now that I have some idea of the layout ;)
Poor Communication
We arrived at the golf course and the price I paid was actually less than the price on GolfNow.
Then the course neglected to tell us that they had leagues in the afternoon and when we made the turn after nine, there were 5 groups waiting on #10.
POOR management!
The FAA made them cut the trees due to proximity to Airport. Turf maintenance is another story however
