Mount Airy Golf Club
About
Situated amidst the beautiful Pocono Mountains, Mt. Airy Golf Club sprawls across lush rolling hills covered with lakes and ponds. There are also wandering streams that cut across the course. This demanding layout requires accuracy over distance with tree-lined fairways and a wildly undulating terrain. Golfers will be faced with tricky uneven lies as well as several blind shots. Water hazards also come into play on several holes. The golf course is challenging but high handicappers should not be too discouraged since it can also be quite forgiving, especially on the fairways, which offer some room for error. Mt. Airy is a demanding course, but the interesting hole designs are fun to play and the beautiful setting will make the round worth it even if your score is less than perfect.

Tough test in the Poconos!
The course apparently gets backed up so book and early tee time. We had to get out a little ahead of schedule as another twosome had an earlier time. Would have liked to hit some balls at the range beforehand.
The course is pretty tough all around. Plenty of blind shots (hole #1 wakes you up right away - long uphill par 5 with a blind 2nd and long third) and there is little ease up through the first 6. Definitely a shot-shapers course as you need to fade and draw regularly to stay in the fairways. Fairways are mostly narrow with ample woods and water on what seems to be every hole. Lots of tall grass and OB. If you are a sprayer, bring at least a dozen balls.
Greens are good but not great. They are large for the Poconos - many courses have postage stamp greens but not Mt Airy. You can definitely make putts here.
If you haven't played the course before you will almost certainly be hitting to the wrong spots. The twosome we hooked up with was familiar with the course so that helped a lot. If they have a yardage book buy it - I didn't notice one, though.
Great layout
Course makes you feel like your vacationing in the south. Hole 18 reminded me of one the holes at the great white at the doral. Comparable in condition and difficulty. Will definitely recommend it and play it again.
Worth the trip
Great golf course and in great condition. I thought it was a hard golf course playing it for the first time with a lot of blind shots and not sure where you should put the ball on tee shots. With that being said I enjoyed myself thoroughly and look forward to playing it again knowing how to plot myself around.
`the course is long and so is the round
played this course twice in 8 days. both rounds were near or over 6hrs. overbooked and rangers said that groups of 5 were ok. saw groups of 7 and 8, so maybe he thought 5 was good. rangers attitude was surly.
Nice course to play with excellent price from Golfnow
It was our first time playing this course. Course staff was very kind to notify us some information of certain holes. The course is well maintained. We are able to play fast without waiting. The only complain I have is the distance mark on the course seems not that accurate comparing to my GPS.
Great course, but need to manage pace of play.
There are many posting about maintaining pace of play, but no enforcement that I saw. In two separate rounds, it took 2 and 1/2 hours to play front nine each time. In the second case, we combined our two threesomes to play as a sixsome (with approval of golf course), and we still waited on almost every hole for the groups in front of us.
Nice Track
Lots of interesting holes with blind shots and elevation changes. Only thing missing is a driving range and putting green.
Simply beautiful!!!!!
Really giving this 4.5 starts. I'm using the two star rating so it can be read...
It was my first time this season and was delighted to see it well maintained. It came long way from even a couple of years ago. The negs are not all tee boxes have sand and no sand container on the carts. Also, I noticed fresh ball marks on the greens. People just don't fix them. I recommend that they have signs posted at each hole as a reminder. None the less this course is in great shape especially considering the negs. Nice work ground crew!!!
Not my favorite but
The course was in very nice shape but I hate the starting hole. Its a par 5 with 2 blind shots to get to the green. There are also a couple other holes on this course I dont like. Another draw back, no putting green and no driving range. So you get out of the car and hit. For the price its not a bad deal but there is no way Id pay more to play here.
Beautiful course
played 18 at another course in the morning that we played right through got a great deal for this course which was very beautiful and in great shape considering the area got 4 inches of rain the day before. Our tee time was 3:00 but the course called and ask us to go out at 3:20 because a friend of the golf pro called to get his kid out with his friends. Fortunately they only played 9 because the pace they played was slow 5 practice swings only to hit ball 100 yards if that. Overall it's a very nice course and I would certainly play again
Challenging test of golf
Played this course on a hot deal. I didn't find the first hole as hard as others have made it out to be. It's uphill but you just have to hit a decent drive and second shot to the top of the hill and then you're in business. Some of the holes call for a draw or a fade off the tee which makes it challenging. The sand in the bunkers was really packed down so the ball would sometimes run through rather than getting caught in it. That can be a good or bad thing! Overall this is a really nice, challenging course.
Challenging course in the southern Poconos
Mount Airy is a difficult well-maintained course. The greens were in excellent shape and rather large. The course was hilly and long with many side hill and uphill lies. Also a few blind shots which could costs a few strokes if you don't pay attention. If you like mountain courses this one is for you. Can be a little frustrating for the high handicapper. Priced very reasonably for a course of this caliber.
Great Mountain Golf
The course is in really great shape from tee to green. Like others have said, this is a target golf course any you will probably use every club in your bag. Lots of elevation change. Greens a little slow. The 16th hole is a bit awkward, as they cut a par 5 into a par 4 to make room for the casino parking lot (or to make sure strays don't kill windows in the lot). They could use a ranger to help with pace of play, which was a bit slow. But, overall it's an excellent value, especially at the hot deal price.
Survive the first hole!
"All you have to bring is your love of everything" and a dozen golf balls!
Mt. Airy Lodge know for their cheesy 80's commercials and champagne glass hot tubs and heart shaped beds has changed for the better over the years and is now a well appointed hotel and casino. Fortunately during construction of the casino, the golf course wasn't harmed and re-opened in 2009 a well manicured, difficult test for most golfers.
The first hole is an unforgiving three shot par 5 with trouble absolutely everywhere. It is the reason I don't play there more often. However, once you get past that brutal first hole, the course takes on a friendlier demeanor. But at a slope of 141 and a rating of 74 from the blues, it's not a course for beginners.
Overall, this course is extremely well maintained and pace of play is a normal 4.5 hours on most days.
And while the course is usually a great value between $25-50, it's very easy to wind up making it a $1,000 round with a few misteps in the casino.
great layout
All the challenge you want from the back tees. You can score if you hit quality shots. Course in great condition and very fair. .greens a little slow for this caliber course. Need to pair up twosomes to speed up play. Overall great course! !!
Hidden hazards, be aware of the pond on #1, Ravine on #13
Nice surprise. Greens are slow but well maintained. Interesting layout and lots of water hazards. I recommend that if time allows from the tee, take the cart and drive ahead to see how the hole looks before teeing off. Bunkers and water hazards await. If you can play with someone whom has played there before. I paid $28 and my tee time was 2:50 as a single but they let me join a couple at 1:50. Good value for the money, great deal through Golf Now.
Great, deceptive holes. Course walk recommended before play
Mt. Airy is a really interesting course, with many challenging holes. These start right from the first, a long, uphill par 5 with a vicious surprise at the top of the hill. The 13th is equally demanding, a downhill par 5 with blind fairway. There are many more surprises because of the interesting topography. Value for money is great given the standard of maintenance and course layout. The only disappointments were the lack of a practice putting green and failure of the staff to act on the many visible warnings of consequences for slow play. We were held up for the majority of our round. Course marshals were largely absent.
Know where you're hitting the ball
Got a tee time for 50% and made this course a great deal. The course was nice and in good condition, but like most others have said, the first time you play you really need a fore caddie. There are lots of blind shots and sometimes have no idea where to hit the ball safely. Some gimmicky holes and a layout that doesn't make a whole lot of "sense". Made for an interesting day on the course.
made great changes
I used to play this course before the casino went in and it was decent. It needed some bunker work and the fairways were a bit overgrown and weedy. Since they put money into the course and the casino went in, it has become a favorite of mine. The greens run true, the fairways seem to have been redone in many spots and although the bunkers could use some fresh sand, they are much better. We will be playing this course on a regular basis again, and their twilight rates are fantastic. We payed $28/player for a 3:00 tee time and it was an INCREDIBLE value!
Pace of play
Staff needs to encougare pace of play. Course was backed up. Replays were taken on top of tee times.
