The Inn At Pocono Manor - East Course
About
The Inn at Pocono Manor offers two championship golf courses, conveniently located less than two hours from New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. Surrounded by the beauty of the Poconos, the inn has earned a spot on the National Registry of Historic Places. George Fazio designed the West Course, and the East Course was Donald Ross' creation. The East Course, the original layout, has hosted a number of legendary players, including Arnold Palmer and Sam Snead, since 1912. Ross carefully sculpted the mountainous landscape to create a course that is both challenging and memorable. It is shorter and tighter than the other course but they are equal in level of difficulty. The golf course is defined by the interesting water hazards that come into play on several holes, but the scenic views are also a draw.

Rough course outing.
Played the west course they deterred us from playing the east because of problems with the greens. They also had two of the holes closed due to problems. Greens on the west course were very hard almost impossible to hold a green shot.
Beat up course should close until repaired greens
Probably great back in the day. Course needs to take a year off and get it back to how it was designed to be.
Hard fairways and greens
You'll get a great bounce and roll on a good drive. In fact I hit a 290 yard drive. I'm usually ~260. Unfortunately you'll get similar action on the green and with these tiny greens it's hard to stick GIR. The grass around the greens is spotty, not well maintained. I'm just happy that this was one of the hot deal from Golf Now and a full price one as it's not worth it.
Play only the East course if you are only playing one here
My wife and I stayed at the Inn at Pocono Manor for our 20th anniversary. We brought our clubs and played a different course in the area every day. We played the west course the first day and it is quite possibly the worst conditioned course I have ever played in my life. The tee blocks on some holes were atrocious. Some of the greens had a number of bad patches which would make it impossible to putt along the line you picked. Many of the fairways consisted of crabgrass and clover patches. Even the design of the west course was sub-par. Every green looked the same - small, sloped from back to front, and mounds on each side to repel an errant approach. No bunkers on the west course. The condition was so bad that it really did make me think that they are planning on selling off that land after this season as someone else suggested.
We played the east course two days later (it really couldn't get any worse# and it was in much better condition than the west course, with the exception that a few of the holes have greens that are being repaired and are not really playable, but they haven't created a temporary green for all of them. One hole was completely out of play and they had inserted a par 3 in its place ##2#. Lots of elevation changes on the east make it really interesting. Only a couple of blind shots so it's not too frustrating. Beware that regular hole #3 #across the road, the par 3) is a bowl green at the bottom of a hill - you can't tell that from the tee but just have a guide flag to aim for. Better to take one club less there than to go long.
Ultimately the east course is worth playing if you can get a decent deal, but I wouldn't waste my time on the west.
west course greens small difficult to hit
West course has no bunkers or water hazards.Playsed hard and fast. If you miss greens left or right you have "short sided" yourself.
A (Sad) Tale of Two 18s
Booked a tee time for the East Course—a Donald Ross design I've played before and enjoyed. Upon arrival, and after meeting a friend who drove two hours, I was informed no less than four greens were unplayable on the East and another hole was closed. "But you can play the West Course if you'd like." And so began the misery of my morning.
The West Course is not the East Course—each green resembling a small turtle's back and enough (unmarked) ground under repair to have you question if they employ a greenskeeper. Much of the course is fair, in proper condition, but proper condition we did not find. Any margin of error resulted in a variety of different headaches—certainly not something you'd expect from, said the card, a '114 slope'.
Should you book a time on the East, call ahead and confirm that you're receiving the product you expect to pay for. I did not, and won't be returning as a result.
Course has some fun holes, with totally blind shots to greens
The course fairways are in great shape. A few of the greens were under repair, and one holes was entirely closed. They opened a par 3 temporary hole to replace the closed hole.
Few hazards make for a nice casual round.
West course is a relatively wide course and hazard free. Greens have some dead spots, fairways vary from good to fair. For $25 its a great easy round.
The course was in poor condition.
Heard from a local bartender that Pocono Mt. West was sold to a company who our building a water park on the course in Sept. of this year.
Requires using ALL your clubs
The West course is 6700 yards long from the white tees with a few par 4's well over 400 yards so depending on your drive length, you could be hitting anything from a 3-iron to a PW into a small green. It rained the night before we played so it played even longer making it a real challenge but it was fun to play and not overly crowded. I'll be playing this course again soon.
Fun time
Had a great time. Course was very challenging, fairway grass bunkers made first shot interesting. Fairways and greens were kept in good condition, some greens had bare spots, We will be back.
Terrible
Burnt greens, drunk golfers crashing into one another, and the tee boxes are poor. Won't go there again.
50% of greens dried out and need work
Great value. Paid only $10 for 18 holes, but now I know why. At least 50% of the greens are dried out and need work. How hard is it to keep the greens watered and take care of them? The rest of the course was not dried out so why should the greens be that way? The course could be a decent course for the Poconos with some attention.
I played in free with my son.
I had a great opportunity for playing golf in free. This course is good condition, but there was not the information of each hole.
Avoid at all costs
Just returned home after a trip to the poconos where we played a round a pocono manor east. I don't have anything positive to say and I'm not sure what the other reviewers are talking about but this course is an absolute joke. The conditions of the fairways and greens make it completely unplayable. I'm not exaggerating when I say that there wasn't grass on the greens. There wasn't even dirt on a few. The greens were a flat surface of hardened mud with a cup sticking out. An absolute disgrace that they charge people money to play here and I was embarassed that I even booked the round. It's a shame because the course probably was nice 20 years ago but I'm not lying when I tell you that they couldn't pay me to come back. How do you putt over a sandlot?!? Hands down the worst course I've ever seen. Sorry pocono manor, but it seems as if you won't be in operation much longer.
save your money
this course is maintained for outings and people who golf twice a year. the greens were horrible they were not maintained or in the case of half a dozen the rot was so bad it was bald. would not go back if round was free!
Value priced, but not much else
Not particularly interesting, or well groomed. Greens - OK, fairways not irrigated so thin and REAL hard, tee boxes poor
Needs Attention
Very poor condition. Tees, fairway, rough, greens all in poor condition some to the point of being a joke. No markers at all on tees as to distance w/several obviously wrong(my wife & I played & on holes where the card showed 30 yds between men & ladies tees, you could walk off 60 yds & visa versa so one of the 2 was wrong) The starter put a 5some ahead of us.
Poor conditions
Had a two forty tee time, arrived at two pm but was not allowed to go out early, this despite the fact that the course was empty!
After playing the west course I saw why it was empty.
If clover is your thing then go to pocono manor!
