Opened in 1923, Reading Country Club is one of the area's oldest golf courses. Located less than a half hour from King of Prussia, the course is easily accessible from anywhere in the greater Berks County area. Though it has a traditional layout that doesn't have the length that most modern courses do, that hasn't stopped it from being one of the most challenging public golf courses in Berks County. The rolling terrain provides a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The course will test you with lightning fast, undulating greens that are protected by sand traps and there is punishing rough bordering the narrow, tree-lined fairways. Be prepared for uphill shots and blind approaches throughout the golf course. Reading Country Club's par 3s are especially notable for their difficulty.

pretty old parkland course......holes a bit too close to one another

This used to be a private country club built on the lines of a Donald Ross design from the early part of the 20th century. The course architect did a very nice job of creating a course where distance is not as important as accuracy. A stream winds through the course and situates strategically on many holes. You rarely have a level lie and have to be a creative shotmaker. The greens are tricky with hidden breaks and radically different speeds evident from hole to hole. The only complaint that I had was that the holes were too close together, but that is a minor problem with this course which is like being in a time machine and getting a chance to play golf the way they did almost 100 years ago. Great buy.

Has been better

Course was not in good condition. Pace of play was extremely slow took about 5 hours. Called pro shop to see if they could get a ranger on the course to pick up the pace of play, which they refused to do.

The group behind us would go back and play the previous hole a second time. They would finish and we would still not be able to tee off due to the groups ahead of us.

Quite a few hills.

Driving range too short and too close to hole #10 Tee Box.

Course in good shape for this time of year.

Nice layout. Tough Par 3's. Course was in good shape for this time of year. Even though the greens were recently aerated the greens were smooth and ball rolled well.

great course, great price

I played here several times now, I still haven't paid full price. I was a single that was teamed up with another single. I paid $16.00, he only paid $12.00. This is a former private course that is very nice and now very affordable. Thank you GOLFNOW.com.

classic old style parkland course with small treacherous greens and narrow tree lined fairways. Not long but plenty of challenge.

Great bang for the buck. Classic parkland layout with narrow tree lined fairways and small treacherous greens. Not long but plenty of challenge for even the most skilled player. Terrific service, friendly staff, good pace of play and good course conditions.

underrated, old fashioned and darn nice

if you like your golf old fashioned....you will love Reading CC.. The holes are tightly bunched together and if you ever wanted to walk a course, this would be a good one for you.. I play here a couple of times each year and its always a good time.. The course does play longer than the listed yardage, so dont think its a pushover.. Some of the big elevation changes will cause major difficulties for you.. You must be precise here without spraying it all over.. Earlier in the season,, the greens were like lightning.. Overall, this place is a great value with plenty of memorable holes.

Great condition

I played the course in the middle of October. The greens were in great shape, fast and true. A couple of the par 3s are uphill where you have to hit the green and 1 on the back nine that is long and down hill over a creek. Par 5s are challenging and you need 2 really good shots to be on in 2. Most of the par 4s are about 350 yards with a few 400. It is a fun course set in the hills with elevation changes and some level holes.

Very Enjoyable Course

After having played here twice, this has become one of my favorite courses. Except for a few spots that need maintenance, the course is in very good shape. The fairways are wide, and the greens are large and fast. The elevation changes create some exciting drives and par 3's. As for pace of play, it took 3.5 hours for a twosome on my first time, but 5 hours for a foursome on my second time, both during weekends.

Poor Shape

Overall the course was in poor shape for something that would be associated with a "country club" as its upkeeping was if it was a municipal course. Otherwise was a decent round to play - would recommend for intermediate rounds and if playing with bunch of friends just looking for a good time. If you are looking for a nice round on a nice course, go elsewhere.
