Chapel Hill Golf Course in Reading enjoys a scenic backdrop of mature forests. The tucked away locale provides a peacefully secluded setting that is ideal for a round of golf. While it may not seem like a long layout at just under 6,150 yards, you'll soon forget about any lack of length once you get on the golf course. From the very first hole you're confronted with a water hazard, a stream that weaves around five other holes. The layout forces you to think through each hole, making the tough decision between going for it or laying up. Accurate shot placement is crucial throughout the golf course, especially on the back nine where there are several tricky doglegs and tough uneven lies. Mature trees tightly line the fairways at Chapel Hill Golf Course, and the greens are framed with strategically placed bunkers.

Narrow, but entertaining

This is a short course, but plays long because you are often hitting less than a driver from the tee. From the blue tees (6000) yards, it is common to only hit driver 3 times, on 6, 9 and 18. The rest of the holes you just need to get the ball in play into a fairway surrounded by trouble. Conditions have been great this year, greens firm and rolling well, fairways well maintained, nice rough. Cartpaths need some work but that doesn't have much to do with golf. There's a snack bar and bar, no restaurant. My kid loves coming here as there is plenty of wildlife. You're not surrounded by houses, just woods, so there's deer, turkeys, rabbits, turtles, etc.

First Timer at Chapel Hill

Nice course just minutes off Route 222. Short course so I played the Blue tees and enjoyed my round. Select the right club on holes 4-5-6 as water comes into play. Hole 11 from the blue you cannot see the green, hit 7 iron left me with 160 to the hole.
Picture is from hole 8, two does and a 6pt buck.

Chapel Hill

We played very early on a Wed morning. Seemed like we were the first ones out so pace of play was wonderful. It is a good place for beginners in that the course has wide open spots. Also, has some tighter holes that can present a challenge for more skilled golfers.
Course should provide vertical yardage markers. I didn't see any and that is annoying. Course should also provide yardage advice somewhere for holes that have water hazards across the fairways. If you don't have local knowledge then you might lose balls and strokes for hitting the wrong club...even though you hit a good straight shot! I have played here many times in the past 20 years and they still don't have yardage help on the hole signs or card.
Cost was great due to a hot deal on GolfNow.
Greens were pretty good and cut nicely and not too slow.

Great Value

I was pleasantly surprised by the course. I booked on line and could not get a handle on the course layout based on their web site but I was very impressed by the course. It was clean, well maintained, challenging and fun. The greens were relatively flat but occasionally had undulations that would challenge the better putters (of which I am not). The greens were impeccably manicured and consistent. There were a couple of medium to long range par threes that test ones ability to hit long irons accurately. (which I struggle with)
I play many country club courses in and around the Philadelphia area and I this course is comparable to some of those. The trip to Reading for me was over an hour and I am glad I made the trip. I highly recommend this course.

Short but challenging

Surprisingly tough for a short course. Very tough greens and ball placement is critical. Course was in good shape and greens were running about medium.

little course that can make you pay !!

the greens were flawless with plenty of speed
fairways were a little muddy from all the rain last week but still very playable
some of the tee boxes could use some repair work with some very uneven lies
and the bunkers were very good for a public course !!
much more challenging from the blues
I'm 3.5 and hit it very solid today and managed a 74 with some good up and downs so don't let the yardage deceive you !!!

Great price for the type of course

The course isn't very nice. The cart path is horrible and the Greens sometimes looks like the fringe. However, for the price of $10 it's a great course. For the right price, this course is of value. Would not play if I had to pay full price

Good Round considering

My buddy & I recently played Chapel Hill. He & I both shot pretty decent scores. I really enjoy playing this course especially because it is usually extremely affordable & in good overall shape. It is early in the season this year and with a rough winter and add to the fact that we just recently got some more sleet and rain the course was pretty mushy. Although that was to be expected & no fault of the staff or the course...Chapel Hill will be Much nicer to play come May! We will be back for sure. & When the course dries out & those greens aren't plugged I expect to be coming back often!

Always friendly

Played on a very windy day, with fairways that
hadn't dried out yet from our wet winter and
spring. Still one of my favorite courses with a good selection of tee boxes for all golfers. I know they will be keeping it in good shape and fair prices!

Nice course, Nice people Nice rates

The course is nice, and somewhat challenging. Tight fairways and blind shots make accuracy a must. Course is in good shape for the most part. For the price, it is a good value.

Great price on golfnow.com for this course and it needs TLC

This course is really in need of some TLC for the tee boxes, sand traps and especially the greens. The fairways are the best part of this course in terms of condition and the course is fairly forgiving till you land in a trap.
The greens need cut better and more regularly. With the balance of rain and sun and lower summer temperatures, this course should be in much better shape than it is. Also, it is off the beaten path a bit more than others so people out of the area may find it a challenge to find.
The best part of this course is that through golfnow.com, you can get sub-$20 rounds regularly here (including cart and 18 holes) so that creates more value to work on your game. It is not usually crowded here either so that is a plus. The course is not long and is fairly wide open if you can stay out of the water.

Enjoyable course for the budget-minded.

Played from the Blue tees for the first time. Challenging and much different than the White tees. Shot placement to avoid multiple water hazards is still very important. I miss the very specific yardages that Chapel Hill used to have on all scorecards and signs at each tee. Those should still be available for a small fee if not free. Great deal ($7+ fees) on GolfNow!!
