Chapel Hill Golf Course
About
Chapel Hill Golf Course in Reading enjoys a scenic backdrop of mature forests. The tucked away locale provides a peacefully secluded setting that is ideal for a round of golf. While it may not seem like a long layout at just under 6,150 yards, you'll soon forget about any lack of length once you get on the golf course. From the very first hole you're confronted with a water hazard, a stream that weaves around five other holes. The layout forces you to think through each hole, making the tough decision between going for it or laying up. Accurate shot placement is crucial throughout the golf course, especially on the back nine where there are several tricky doglegs and tough uneven lies. Mature trees tightly line the fairways at Chapel Hill Golf Course, and the greens are framed with strategically placed bunkers.

Carts and paths are falling apart
Cart barely moved, have aluminum rails so they’re not magnetic, and paths are all falling apart bad
Under-appreciated target Golfer's bang-for-buck delight
I'd estimate half the holes on this course are "use your driver with caution" holes.
I'm saying that's a good thing and makes for "thinking mans's golf"
Lots of tiny lateral streams in 180-200 yard range (from the white tees), a few small ponds sprinkled in, and more than a hole or two where barely missing the fairway to at least one side will put you into a game over" lie in a red hazard.
Maybe a low handicapper who consistently drives 250 yards straight and/or can work the ball in both directions can still overpower some of the shorter, narrower holes on this track, but not this guy.
Had lots of fun hitting irons off some tees, laying up responsibly, etc.
Play was a bit slow behind an evening league when I was there, but I was eventually able to skip around to empty holes once I got into the course's interior.
The course was in as good a shape as any other lower-cost public course which went through last year's drought. It cost me $19 to walk after 5 p.m.
Yes, it's possible to get patchy fairway lies where grass which went dormant during the drought has yet to come back, but, seriously, how much can you ask when you're playing for $19.
The manager/owner who took care of us was really freindly. My wife and I played a quick 9 here and had a great date night. No one was on the course and it was beautiful out. Will come back.
Nice layout and greens.
Rain caused course to be cart path only but greens were smooth and quick after being punched and the rain helping.
Great value course
Overall it’s a great value for the money. The carts are a bit dated and the paths are mostly horrific, but the course itself is well taken care of. Staff is always friendly. Decent bar for those turn/post round beverages and glizzies.
Carts and cart paths need repair
Fun course, friendly staff, but the carts are falling apart and the cart paths are in need of repair.
Meh but fun
Challenging track . Cart paths are terrible and the carts themselves are the absolute worst I have ever seen. For winter time golf the greens were ok . Hopefully the owners take a little more pride in it in the future cause it could really be great ...
Needs Upgrades Immediately
Area has been in a drought for several weeks so some of the dirt tee boxes and such can be excused. The greens were good generally speaking. Every cart was damaged in some way and their suspensions were blown because the cart paths were a disaster. On holes 9-13 the cart path was so bad it did not seem to exist any longer. You were "off roading" on a steep grade in a cart that had no suspension left, it was precarious.
Pace and Conditions Not Worth the Price to Play
Been playing Chapel for over 20 years and it’s now a place a I won’t go back. The cart paths are literally dangerous. And for how poor this place drains after rain and the amount you are cart path only makes it a punishment. The fairways are so thin now that half your lies are 50% dirt in the middle of the fairway. The #1 most inconsistent rolling greens in Berks county bar none. Now, today after playing a 2 hour and 40 minute front and getting attitude from Todd about questioning the pace of play is enough for me. I know it’s a Sunday and it will be slow, but told them about two groups being behind over 2 holes and what I get is what can you expect it’s a Sunday. How about get the guy sitting behind number 7 green on his phone to go have them pick it up a bit and you can turn the round into a 4 hour round of golf. But that is not received well and a patron for 20 years is now no more. The lack of care for the course and the people that play there is now to much for me. Like I said on the way out, there are plenty of courses in this area and I intend to take my business to them instead. Just a shame that’s all.
Challenging greens
The holes were relatively short and not overly difficult but add in the speed and undulation of the greens and this course makes for a challenging round. A couple holes are a little tricky to navigate if you’re new to the course. The only downside is the terrible condition of the cart paths and the age of the carts. The last time I was there one of our carts stopped running and had to be pushed back to the clubhouse. This outing, there was an abandoned cart on the first fairway. I am guessing also broke down. My cart, I noticed partway into the round had a chunk of rusted metal hanging from underneath. Made it through 18 though. I got a good price through Golfnow and if I can get another good price in the future will be back.
