Classic Course, Nice Staff, Good Etiquette Among Other Players on the Course
Teed off on a late-morning weekday-off, leading into a holiday weekend and found the course pleasantly uncrowded.
Played through *five* groups of very-nice gentlemen along the way who were kind enough to bring me through every time, with little if any delay, despite my having no standing as a single-player versus their four-ball matches. They didn't have to do what they did, but they helped me finish a very-enjoyable round in not much more than two hours, thirty minutes (with a cart), and that was most appreciated.
The course was in good shape but a bit soggy from some historically-torrential rains on days prior. This was particularly true in low-lying areas, and there are plenty of low-lying areas on this fairly-hilly layout. I suspect those areas will dry back to normal by the time anyone reads this.
Highly recommended if you've suffered from pace-of-play frustration elsewhere.
Golden age quirk
This was a very fun course. Every hole has character and quirk. No one would design anything like this today, but it’s so much fun. There’s a lot of challenge to traversing the topography, and the par 3’s take that on. They’re very difficult in turn. Overall the vibe at Galen Hall is fantastic, and it seems like they’re investing in improving the course conditions although they were better than I expected already. I drove almost two hours to play it and would definitely do it again.
Very unique course
Course was a lot of fun to play, mainly due to its century-old layout. It had undulations and lots of natural hazards that made it challenging, despite being shorter than most modern courses.
Greens
Grew up playing this course and it’s always been known for incredible greens. They lost the greens due to a disease from last summer. Don’t see these greens getting any better unless they re-sod them. A 6” putt is no guarantee
winter golf, course was empty. staff really great.
winter golf, course was empty. staff really great. cousre was in decent shape for december. greens were ok, could not chip on as the greeens were frozen like concrete, so bump and run was the way to go. the greens here are challenging any time of the year.
Will frommelt
I wish they had told us they aaerofied , needed to finished with some sand. Otherwise great course
Interesting architecture with diabolical greens
The course layout is very unique and I found that challenging but in a good way. The greens on the other hand have seen better days with at least one or two showing some type of disease. But even on the greens that were in better shape you could easily see putts that appeared to be dying near the hole turn into 12 foot putts down an incline or break you didn't see beforehand. That being said, it is definitely worth playing if you never have.
GREENS ARE ROUGH
Been playing this tillinghast layout for 30 years it is truly a classic layout and generally a good test of golf . But yesterday I was so disappointed. It was a disgrace to pay full price for a course with greens that are completely diseased it was like putting on moon craters. They have put alot of money into certain areas of the course which it does need. But the greens are the trade mark of this track and there focus is mis guided. Please fix your greens and cause at this point I'd pass paying full price to play greens is such poor conditions.
