Wildwood Green Golf Course
About
Wildwood Green Golf Club in northern Raleigh was designed with players of all skill levels in mind, Opened in 1986, the classic layout underwent a major renovation 10 years later that made it into a challenging but playable test that welcomes everyone from beginners to seasoned pros. Generous landing areas offer some room for error off of the tee and the greens are large and inviting. There are still plenty of trees and sand traps to keep the layout interesting though. Accuracy and careful pin placement are also required to handle Wildwood Green's subtle elevation changes. The golf course finishes with one of its most difficult holes. This par 4 is a slight dogleg right with Carolina pines bordering the right edge as well as a bunker to the left. The approach is an uphill, blind shot to a deep and undulated green.

They lost there GREENS!
All good except the greens! They lost 85% of each green, the dead part running a 12, the grass part running an 8. temp greens going in, I would stay away for the year.
NICE MONDAY COURSE
NICE COURSE, THE PLAY WAS NICE AND CONSTANT WITH LITTLE TO NO INTERRUPTIONS. COURSE WAS IN DECENT SHAPE BUT THE GREENS REALLY NEED A LOT OF WORK. DRY GREENS OR LARGE PATCHES OF GRASS COMPLETELY MISSING. BUT WOULD DEFF PLAY IT AGAIN.
This course could be excellent
The course greens are in bad shape,,
We were told they are going to be redone
In july and ypu will putt on temporary greens.
The putting green is closed.
But im sure after the necessary repairs it
Could be an enjoyable place to play.
Great layout, poor greens
The course has a fantastic layout and was in great shape except for the greens which were extremely poor condition. Staff was great however pace of play needs to be monitored especially on the weekends.
Wildwood Green 4/14/17
Got a Hot deal to play WIldwood Green as a single on Good Friday. Knew it would be crowded but such a nice day and needed to get some practice in. First time playing here.
Got paired with 3 guys who were great. Fairways were transitioning to Summer Bermuda but not bad. However, the greens were a different story. I thought WG replaced their greens last fall? Every green had some kind of weed like growth over significant portions of the green that did affect putting. Layout is fairly tight but interesting.
Biggest complaint was pace of play. We caught up to a foursome on hole 8 and proceeded to wait on every tee box and shot into the green until we were done. Everyone of the guys were bad, two were walking, one took 3 practice strokes before every putt and best I could tell did not make one putt. On 15 the ranger asked me how many holes on the back had I waited on them and told him every hole. He headed off to the direction but nothing changed. Since 2 were walking I assume they were "members:" so not sure what really could be done.
WG has to figure out the greens problem soon. I won't return until they do. As far as the pace of play, not sure what the answer is. I've played with plenty of golfers who shoot 100+ but "keep up".
Good Course
Nice track ..some challenging holes ..good value,,
Really Bad Greens
This place has gone down hill. Greens were covered in what looked like poa and were bumpy. Paid 39 dollars on a hot deal and felt like that was too much based on course conditions. Staff I came in contact with was great, but due to conditions I wouldn't recommend this course in its current state.
Narrow but fun
Played this course quite a few times. I like it. But I only play it when the price is right or when there is a good hot deal on it. For what they normally charge, I don't believe the course is worth it. It plays narrow, but is fun and challenging. Course was in great condition when I played there last. Temps have dropped since then, so I imagine some of the greens may have declined a little. Only gripes about here are the rates (in general) and the practice green.
Love this layout, sad greens
I got a hotdeal for this price, but usually the course is too expensive to play. The course layout is awesome, but the greens just don't match the cost. River ridge"s greens do, but love this courses layout much more. Sad really.
Greens are horrible
I've played here about 8 times. It seems to be on a slow decline. My first couple times the course was in great shape. The last two times I've played here, once this year and once last year, the course has seemed to be somewhat neglected. The greens right now are trash especially considering it was $50. The greens at Lakeshore GC are better and you can play there for about $20 (with a cart). I like the course but someone needs to figure out how to care for the greens. I'm not typically the one to write reviews but I dont think I got what I paid for. Play Somewhere else until they fix them, I won't be back for a while, if ever.... Almost forgot, had a foursome of 60+ Yearold guys in front of us walking. Took about 5 hours and not one time did we see a ranger. The old guys we were waiting for didn't seem to care they were holding up the entire course.
Will never go back.
Booked an afternoon round directly with the course, was quoted $39. Got to check in desk and was told the rate was $47. I asked them to honor the $39 rate and they refused. Coupled with the lousy greens and uncooperative attitude of staff, this is my first and last visit.
Same Old Same Old
I have played this course from its conception in the 1980s but because it is quite a drive for me (I can be in Pinehurst in the same time frame) I usually play it once a year or so now days.
Wednesday is the day of play for their "Men's League" also know as "the gaggle" and for good reason. With a 10:40 tee time we, as a twosome, went around in about 4 hours and 40 minutes as the first group following "the gaggle'. Keep this in mind for week day play. (AND BTW you cannot play 18 holes without playing nine so why that question is on this survey is confounding to me; poorly worded at best.)
The course in general is in very good shape EXCEPT for a number of greens which are in need of some repair due in part to the harsh winter of 2014/15 in this area. The practice green by the clubhouse is a good indication of what you find out on the course.
The staff with whom we had the opportunity to speak were very helpful and accommodating to our needs and requests. I was happy to see a proper RANGER on duty and making his rounds keeping the pace of play moving to the best of his abilities (often to no avail due to the 'money' game of "the gaggle".)
Even though this course is a par 70, as there is only one par five on each nine, from the back tees the course plays a little more than 6400 yards but has a fair amount of elevation changes and forced carries to keep it interesting.
It is my understanding the family who originally built and owned the course have moved on to better pastures and the course appears the worse for wear and tear. Although you can find efforts here and there from the grounds crews and a few places of cart path asphalt replacement throughout the course.
(Note to golf course designers and builders: pine trees and asphalt paving are sworn enemies, the pine tree root runs very close to the surface of the ground. Repair and/or replacement is an eminent extra cost.)
All in all this is a good facility, not great but fine for a weekday afternoon in the city with a couple of buddies. Take time to visit Wildwood Green Golf Club and I trust you will have a s good a day as we did today.
Coming from a member
I am a member of this course so I think my opinion should carry some weight.
The staff is friendly and wonderful. The course itself is a nice layout but only in ok shape. The driving range is my biggest complaint. It runs right next to hole 1 so you have a chance of being hit by a ball while on the 1st hole.
After that the course is pretty good. There are 2 great par threes over water. Only 2 par 5 on the course so you do not need every club in your bag for this course.
Pace of play during in season is very bad. There are a lot of hackers who play there so be prepared to take your time. The pace of play off season is pretty good.
I recommend this course if you temper your expectations for pace and play and condition of greens...
Not highly recommended
You need to understand what you are getting.....a good deal. The price is right here but as always, you get what you pay for. There are a couple good holes on the course, but there are also some questionable ones. If you don't care about the layout of a course, this is the course for you.
Hidden Jewel
This was my first time playing this course. We played on one of the prettiest weather days in NC for awhile, so the course was full. We were a two-some and were paired with a member and spouse. They were very helpful with course management. Pace of play was good we played within 4 1/2 hours. We will play this course again. This course has some easy and harder holes, it is great for all levels of golfer.
Good Layout from Back Tees
Got a good deal on GN so ventured out to Wildwood. Overall in good condition for December. Greens were a little wet, spongy.....and as usual, lots of unrepaired ball marks. Somewhat of a tight course with good elevation changes. Par 3's are pretty strong from the back tees. Lots of walkers on this course who generally won't let riders play through. Fun course but you have to pick your time carefully or it can be a long round.
Fun to Play
This was a fun course to play. It's a little narrow which makes you hit straight. Lots of water hazards that are always fun challenges. The staff was very friendly.
Nice track
Check in-Great very friends and helpful staff
Driving Range-perfect for a quick warm up or a full work out
Course-Great little layout that keeps you interested the whole round.
I play beginning of Nov. couple of the greens had patches on but did not effect play at all.
Waited on the T box a couple of times but we were a 2 some and had a four some in front, however still finished in 4 1/2 hours.
Very good value for money !
19th hole good spot for a quick after game refreshment
The greens are in bad shape because they are killing them off to replace with champion Bermuda. Should be good to go in 3-4 months
