Response to More Pride Needed
Strange comments that lack basic knowledge. Golf all over the country is more popular than ever due to covid. With record numbers of rounds, apparently you do not understand how that affects things.
1. When tee boxes get wore out due to way too much play, courses must create temporary tees. Grass doesn't grow when it's winter and dormant.
3. Have you ever set a cup, apparently not. Go watch any morning. It is IMPOSSIBLE to set a cup with "raised ridges" as you suggest. Water is never used when cutting the hole for the day, it is used when placing the new hole plug into the hole from yesterday. Your "raised ridges" are created by golfers stepping too close to the hole over and over throughout the day. When you step, the foot goes down and the area around it then goes up (simple physics). Let 150 players step 3" from the hole all day long and by the afternoon there is not a flat hole left. "Flags denoted for hole location" HAAAA. Try to just hit it on the green. There are only 4 or 5 players on the handicap list below a 10 handicap. Even they don't worry about a front, middle or back pin. The only hole you do not know where it is is the first one. They still use the front, middle, back rotation. When you get to hole 1 and it's a back pin, easy to figure out hole 2 is front, hole 3 is middle, hole 4 is back, hole 5 is front, hole 6 is middle, hole 7 is back, I'm sure you can figure out the rest. Find the shade you want, the costs associated, raise the money, and donate it to the club for that purpose. Maybe they will even make a sign with your name on it saying, "Donated By". Come with solutions to a problem, not just a problem, that will definitely make you look like a better human being than an old, disgruntled, unhappy person.
4. Ummmm, grass does not grow when it's dormant. I would love to know what you think a grass driving range would look like after 4 months and thousands of people hacking divots. You wouldn't then have grass for the summer either. I may be wrong, but Atascocita Golf Club does use the grass area on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday's. AGC has better mats than any course around here also.
5. Pace of play is based on time. 4:15 per round for a 4-some is pretty standard. Rounds may seem slow, but are actually ahead of pace. Remember, record numbers of rounds at every course around the country. A marshal’s job is to maintain the course's pace of play policy, not force fastest possible play.
6. Call any golf cart company and see how quickly you can order. For that matter, try to order most anything in the world right now. Do you know when AGC ordered their new fleet of carts and when they were supposed to have been delivered? Obviously, you don't based on your comment. Golf Cars of Houston and Conroe both have personal carts available for purchase for and you'll never have a cart issue ever again!
7. Simply a lie! I played yesterday and we saw the cart girl 5 times. They had just under 150 rounds, seeing her that many times is above and beyond what is expected.
8. Practice balls are worn a bit, just like new carts though, range balls have been unavailable for any club to order since the end of 2020. No one expected to not be able to order range balls, bags, shirts, stock golf balls. Courses can't get anything they want when they want it.
9. Funny you complain about a course being busy! A course with no business closes forever. Worried about carts again, buy one!
10. Why make a negative comment where work is being done. AGC has some of the lowest membership dues of any club in Houston, and by far the lowest of any 27-hole facility. I hope the dues go up so there is then a little more money to make these aesthetic improvements. I don't hit any balls from the cart path, I much prefer money invested in the greens, fairways, and tees. Who cares about a cart path anyway? I moved here from up north, most courses have no cart paths at all. Hilarious you prefer to make a negative comment about something that makes absolutely no difference at all. Where's the drainage problem? Hit the ball in the fairway, no problems there.
I assume you have never asked to talk to management at all. Trying to deter business to "your club" by sitting at your keyboard behind a fake name won't help what you think is a problem. Go talk to the management and become educated on the issues you think is a problem. Here's an idea, buy the club and you can do whatever you want, guessing you can't though. Here's another idea for you, make the choice to not drive your car to AGC and go play somewhere else. I'm sure the other courses you choose are perfect!
And to your greatest comment of all..."Personal cars parked up near the clubhouse does not show care and respect for the course" REALLY.....hopefully no member, staff or community member of Atascocita finds out your real name or if you are really a member at AGC. If you are you probably won't be any longer. Have you asked anyone WHY on occasion there is a vehicle parked outside the office door? You should. To simply answer your statement, which I shouldn't, the General Manager broke his neck in December of 2020 and was paralyzed. Told he may never walk again, in 3 months he stood up. Flash forward to now, he cannot walk from the parking lot but STILL COMES TO THE CLUB EVERYDAY. Sorry you think it "looks bad". Stay home from now on or go to Redwolf.
Group outing
It’s just the time of the year, greens need to get going. Nice course layout. Good value for the money
more pride needed
I have played this course for a couple of years and while major improvements have been made, I’m noticing a decline in course management and some facilities.
1.Not all tee boxes are up and level, too many are uneven and just placed on grass.
2.bunkers lack sand
3.Holes on the green have a raised ridge around the cup. Not being finished clean with a roller and water to allow for a correct ball drop. Flags are not denoted for hole location
4.Practice mats are placed on rocks. Causing uneven areas, very rare that grass area is made available throughout the year. If every day is going to be on mats, an large shade would be appreciated for hot days
5.Marshals don’t move slow play but and large groups are allowed because of what seems employee status with the club or other members
6.golf carts are aged and I’ve been stranded a few times due to a low battery.
7.cart girls are very kind however you may see one maybe once or twice in 18 holes.
8. Practice balls are done, no dimples, scuffed, torn causing scratches and damage to clubs
9. Had to wait for a cart and a spot on the range way too many times even being a member. If no carts are available, please have push carts ready to go. It’s a long walk to carry you bag for older players
10. Cart paths need work and drainage is a problem( I see the work being done on this)
Overall this a good course to keep up the skills and the work thus far is appreciated. However I see a lack of pride in the details that stand out more than the good amenities of the course. Personnel cars parked up near the club house does not show care and respect for the course. The big A is good, but could be so much better.
Plain Jane but decent value
Course winds through suburban development and is pretty vanilla, no holes really stand out. Course was in great shape. Greens are fast with lots of undulations. Pretty good value if you live close by but I wouldn't make a special trip to get there.
Great course, Good Value!
Fun course. Good layout. Super fast greens when we played!
Great spot
Pace of play was great. Course was in great shape for winter time! Greens are fast!
Good value!
Decent course for the price, especially with range balls being included. Course was in good shape and the beverage cart came around often.
nice course, don't be in a hurry
10 hdcp, lifelong golfer, retired full time rv person now....The course was interesting enough and fun to play, and conditions were very good for mid Jan. But we teed off 11am on a Friday and had to play a 4 hr,50 minute round......it's a nice course but too many social golfers for me, laughing drinking and slowly moving around on the course. An early teetime may solve that issue, but bring your own yardage device, random distances posted occasionally in fairway, hole flags mostly faded so little depth indication, no pictures of hole on tee box and scorecard just shows general directions.
