Monte Cristo Golf & Country Club
About
Until the new Los Lagos club opened recently, Monte Cristo, previously known as Palacio, was the only 18-hole course in Edinburg. The name of the game here is dealing with the wind, which seems to always blow from the Gulf and makes the course much more difficult.
Getting there : Exit Monte Cristo off 281 south, then turn left and drive 2.5 miles to the course.

Great course!
Fun course and challenging. Always an awesome value. Great greens and well kept.
Good deal but not in the best shape anymore
Good price if you book online with a midday tee time. Pace of play is good as it’s usually not real busy but things are shaggy on the course and starting to get run down. If you play after it rains bring lots of bug spray the mosquitoes are ferocious!
I'll be back
Pleasant experience from tee to green. Tee boxes all have nice grass and easy to get tee in the ground which may not mean much to you but we need hammer and nail at our course to get the process started. All the fairways had nice grass and the greens were excellent. I even checked on membership and their rates beat my course by quite a bit giving it serious consideration. I think all negative reviews have a direct reflection on the skill sets because this is not necessarily an easy golf course to play visually it is very tight but more room than meets the eye. Fun Course to play.
My favorite course
This course is always in great condition with good pace of play.
Good for the money
You get what you pay for and this is no different. I didn't expect a lot for 18 holes w/ a cart at $24. One of the staff was downright rude, but aside from that there wasn't any other issue with the staff. The course is good for beginners or anyone looking to get a cheap round of golf in.
Bring your A game
Since this is the only course open in the area it had to do. The fairway grass is very-very short so picking the ball with the club is a must. The greens were pretty good, just slow. Most likely to save them due to the heat.
Double charged
The course is fine and great to play my problem is my card got charged by Golfnow which was fine but when I checked my statement the course charged me again for the round actually they charged me $10.00 more than Golfnow. How do I get refunded ??
Incompetent Staff and Management
I arrived at the course early (~20 minutes prior to my tee time) and tried to check in but was told I could only check in within 10 minutes of my tee time, which I thought was understandable because they were probably trying to get groups to tee off at their respective times. I eventually checked in 5 minutes prior to my tee time, picked up my cart, and drove to the first teebox (blue tees) to find 6-8 carts parked in line waiting to tee off. I asked the golfers when their tee times were and found they were all later than mine (how were they allowed to check in?). None let me go ahead of them. There was no ranger at the first tee checking people in. I parked my cart at the blue tees and decided to wait in line behind the aforementioned golfers. Suddenly, 4 more carts drive around my cart and pull up to the white tees and get out of their cart and establish that they're in line before me. I approached them and they acted beligerent. About 10 minutes later, someone working at the Pro Shop came by to check on something unrelated. I tried speaking to him to let him know what was happening and he told me he was busy and couldn't help. I eventually just pulled my cart up to the white tees since I didn't want people to continue cutting in line and I eventually tee'd off at 1215pm (75 minutes past my scheduled tee time and ~95 minutes after I arrived to the course).
This course is completely mismanaged.
Fun round!
1st time on the course, pretty wide open. Enjoy our round!
Interesting layout.
Back to back par 3's par 5's course meanders thru the housing so errant golf balls can find a back yard. Course in good shape from tee to green considering it was March WINTER here they do a great job taking care of the course conditions unlike Shary golf course. I recommend Monte Cristo.
